~ Nick confronting Deena.
Nick Goode, also known as Sheriff Goode is the main antagonist of Netflix's Fear Street trilogy, based on R.L Stine's books of the same name.
He is the Sheriff of Sunnyvale's justice department, and brother of Sunnyvale's mayor Will Goode. He is known to be a righteous man with general believes of justice that seeks to protect both Sunnyvale and rival town Shadyside, which has gained him numerous praises amongst the population. In reality, like all the members of the Goode Family, he is a xenophobic individual who only views Shadysiders as cattle to sell to the demon himself, following a Faustian bargain initiated by his ancestor Solomon Goode, that allows him to keep his wealth and influence in exchange of performing gruesome massacres made by possessed Shadysiders. Nick is probably the only member of his family to have initiated the ritual more than once, being direct responsible of the Camp Nightwing Massacre in 1978 and the Mall Massacre in 1994. He is also the one behind the possession of Samantha Fraser, girlfriend of protagonist Deena Johnson, action that led to his final downfall.
Adult Nick was portrayed by Ashley Zukerman, who also played Solomon Goode, and young Nick was portrayed by Ted Sutherland.
Nick is part of the Goode Family, an influential lineage in the rich town of Sunnyvale that has been taking grip on the population for centuries. Every few years, a male Goode has to carry out a satanic ritual that allows them to keep their wealth and influence over Sunnyvale, as well as to keep the town's status as the best place to live. The ritual involves selling the soul of a person to Satan himself, allowing the demon to possess him/her and go out on a killing spree until the killer is put down. This casualty is countered by selling the souls of members of Shadyside, their rival town. They had been doing this for almost 300 years, turning Shadyside in a cursed place that is infamously known as the Killer Capital of USA, while Sunnyvale is advertised as the heaven on Earth.
Nick is the latest member of the Goode family, being the first born son of Sunnyvale's Sheriff and brother of Will Goode. His father died in Nick's teenage years, passing his legacy to him on becoming a Sheriff, and also performing the satanic ritual that his family had been doing for centuries. Nick sold the soul of Thomas Slater, counselor of Camp Nightwing at Shadyside. Tommy got possessed and killed many Shadyside campers with an axe, leaving many parents permanently scarred. Among the victims there was Ziggy Berman, a Shadysider that Nick fell in love with. Using the powers of the deal, Nick managed to save Ziggy's life and being viewed as the hero of the Camp Nightwing Massacre. Nick felt guilt at first, but quickly got over it.
Sixteen years later, Nick performed the ritual again, selling the soul of Ryan Torres, a Shadyside graduate who disguised himself with a halloween skull mask and murdered seven people on his job at the Shadyside Mall. Nick (already as Sunnyvale's Sheriff) arrived at the scene just in time to kill Ryan and was viewed as a hero again. Many events led to young Shadyside teenager Deena Johnson and her girlfriend Sam Fraser being trapped in a spiral of madness involving the Goode's curse, which happened after viewing Sarah Fier's ghost, who wants them to know the truth about the town. In order to cover his tracks, Nick performed the ritual once again and possessed Sam in order to get Deena and her brother killed, but failed. Determined to get her girlfriend back again, Deena goes on a quest to discover the truth behind Shadyside's curse and put an end to it once and for all, while she is being pursued by the forces of Goode and the evil himself.
In his young years, Nick hadn't that much bias against Shadysiders like most members of his family, being somewhat indifferent to them and viewing them as almost equals. He only performed the ritual for obligatory reasons as every male Goode had to do it to keep the deal at large. He was a really caring and affable individual that everybody liked and had high expectations too. Everything changed as he grew old, as his friendly persona turned into a facade that he used to make everyone believe that he was still the likeable individual he was in the past. His disgust for Shadysiders grew with him, as he viewed them as inferiors whose only purpose is to be cattle. He always wanted to be viewed as a hero and savior despite being truly the most egotistical and manipulative individual raised by the Goode lineage. It is shown multiple times that he would do anything to be viewed as a hero by everyone, as shown when he killed Ryan Torres. He also wanted to keep the lie that Sarah Fier was responsible for the possessions going by spray painting it all over the mall while blaming Martin, the Mall Janitor for these actions.
