Nick and Nack are the secondary antagonists in the 2004 direct-to-DVD animated Barbie film Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. They are the minions of the film's main antagonist, Queen Genevieve's royal advisor, Preminger.
Nick is voiced by Brian Drummond, who also voiced Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik in Sonic Prime and Clyde in Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures, and Nack is voiced by the late Jan Rabson.
History[]
Nick and Nack appear at the mine where they aid their master, Preminger by stealing all that's left of the gold. After Nack berates Nick for putting in what looks like a useless rock (a precious geode in reality) in a mine cart, they go into hiding in the mine cart when they hear someone coming in, only to discover their master and his pet poodle, Midas having returned earlier than expected. Then, Nick, Nack, and Preminger gloat as they sing "How Can I Refuse?". When Preminger reveals that he intends to marry Princess Anneliese in order to become king, Nack informs him that her mother, Queen Genvieve has decided to marry her daughter off to King Dominick of Dulcimea next week in order to save the kingdom from bankruptcy, so, together with Preminger, they plot to kidnap the princess and keep her imprisoned until the wedding is cancelled and Preminger supposedly rescues and returns her to the Queen, thus, enabling Preminger to accomplish his main goals in the end.
Arriving at Queen Genevieve's kingdom late at night, Nick and Nack use a mouse toy in order to lure Anneliese's pet cat, Serafina away from the palace and later use her as bait for the princess. At first, Nick intends to leave with the cat until Nack berates him again and reminds him of their actual current mission before demonstrating to him the actual reason for capturing the cat in the first place. When Anneliese takes the bait, Nick and Nack do not hesitate to kidnap her in a sack and take her away to a cabin in the woods before throwing out Serafina (who manages to get back inside with Hervé the carriage horse's help). When their boss arrives, Nack informs him how the mission was a success and the latter instructs them to keep the princess in here until the wedding to King Dominick is cancelled. One night later, Nick and Nack are playing cards until they are tricked into opening the door by the princess and her cat (disguised as a ghost) which allows the princess and her cat to escape with ease using Hervé as transportation.
When Preminger returns after discovering the princess (actually, an identical pauper named Erika disguised by the princess' tutor and love interest, Julian to fool the Queen and Preminger) has returned earlier in the day, Nick an Nack try to to trick him into believing that the real princess is still here by having Nick disguise himself as the princess, but to no avail. Then, when Julian unintentionally exposes himself, Nick and Nack kidnap him and take him to the mine.
Later, after Preminger discovers Julian's ruse (having captured and exposed Erika), kidnaps the real princess (who was a current prisoner of Erika's cruel boss, Madame Carp's dress emporium), and takes her to the mine, Nick and Nack throw her in with Serafina and Julian while revealing their master's backup plan to marry her mother instead. Then, they sabotage the mine, thus, causing it to collapse and trap both Anneliese, Serafina, and Julian inside.
The next day, at the wedding, Nick and Nack are present as Preminger's best men, but just as the Queen is about to say "I do", the real princess suddenly appears (having survived and escaped with Julian and Serafina; thanks to Hervé and Erika's pet cat and Serafina's love interest, Wolfie) and reveals Preminger and his men's true intentions to everyone. Nick and Nack try to escape with their master and his dog until they are stopped by the princess and the pauper (having escaped with King Dominick's help as well) and finally arrested along with their master by the Queen's guards.
Trivia[]
- Their personalities were inspired by Harry and Lloyd from the 1994 movie Dumb and Dumber, the main protagonists played by Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels.
- Though identical in appearance, Nack is actually the eldest compared to Nick and less dumber too.
