When Nicolas Cage decided that he was going to quit acting, Nicky appeared to him in the car and started harassing him. Nicky told him that he couldn't quit acting while Nicholas told him to get out of the car.
When Nicolas was being tortured and beaten by Lucas Gutierrez, Nicky appeared in Nicolas' mind and beat him as well, all while berating him.
By the end of the film, Nicolas has presumably stopped seeing Nicky, as he has gained confidence and gotten closer with his family.
