The character returned in September 2007 and inititally retained her devious streak for a couple of years, but ultimately she mellowed after being romantically paired with established character Jimmy King.
History[]
Nicola Blackstock first came to Emmerdale Village in early January 2001 to reacquaint herself with her older half-sister Bernice and their father Rodney.
Upon settling herself in the village, Nicola became interested in local chef Carlos Diaz and is unhappy when he became interested in Bernice at first. She persued Carlos and wanted to marry him. When he appeared to reject her, however, Nicola falsely claimed that she is pregnant in order to change his mind. On her hen night, Bernice catches her drinking vodka and Nicola admits she is lying about being pregnant. Bernice, pregnant herself, is horrified and forces her to tell Carlos before the ceremony. Furious with Nicola for lying about her pregnancy, Carlos confesses his love with Bernice and tells her that Bernice's baby could possibly his.
On the day of the wedding, Nicola attacks Bernice with her bouquet before announcing the wedding is off. She then tells Bernice's husband Ashley Thomas about her affair with Carlos and the fact that he may not be the father of Bernice's baby. It is then Nicola's mother, Maureen, turns up and suggests she goes home with her; Nicola, though, decides to stay with Rodney and eventually forgives Bernice to the point of becoming godmother to her newborn niece, Gabby.
In 2002, Nicola becomes annoyed when Rodney starts dating his old friend Maggie Calder and began a feud with her. This involved making Maggie believe that her boyfriend Paul Weston had cheated on her before turning his daughter Jess against her. Then Nicola got angry when Maggie got passed over for a promotion working for Rodney's boss Chris Tate and his business partner Ray Mullan on their holiday village project. Later on she changed the bookings around so that some guests would arrive earlier than expected. When Maggie found out what Nicola had done, they fought and Nicola got shoved into the swimming pool. Nicola then attempted to get her father and Chris to fire Maggie for what she did, but Rodney found out what Nicola had done and sacked her instead; Nicola disowned her father for this, but ultimately forgave him when she calmed down afterwards.
As time went on, Nicola continued to cause trouble in the village. She seduces local mechanic Robert Sugden while he is still attending education, only to then cheat on Robert by having a fling with his friend Syd Woofie and getting Robert to discover the secret; he dumps her afterwards. She soon clashes with Syd's love interest Chloe Atkinson over their relationship and threatens to expose their dalliance to Chloe's girlfriend Scott Windsor, also another of Syd's closest friends. While Nicola doesn't expose the truth in the end, she still embarks on a conflict with Scott's fisty mother Viv Hope over her antics.
By 2004, Nicola began dating fishmonger Simon Meredith and they soon got engaged. But they never got married in the end due to Simon constantly getting acquainted with his mother Lesley and ex-fiancee Tash Abbott. For the next while, Nicola got bored with Simon and attempted to seduce his friend Ivan while the latter is dating her half-brother Paul Lambert. Soon enough Lesley found out about Nicola's betrayal and told Simon, who dumped her in response. Nicola netherless continues to pester Ivan while the rest of the villagers, including Paul and Rodney, remain unaware. Eventually Nicola's best-friend Laurel Thomas found out and urged her to come clean. Nicola refused and went for a drink in The Woolpack public house to settle her neveres. But then Laurel exposed Nicola's actions to everyone there, prompting Paul to walk out on her and for Rodney for disown Nicola for her actions. Nicola then began a tirade as she insulted everyone in the pub before leaving the village.
Over a year later in September 2007, however, Nicola secretly returned to the village; she had seduced an wealthy old businessman named Donald De Souza, marrying him and taking partial control of his business company De Souza Enterprises in the process. Nicola then gets in touch with local couple David Metcalfe and Jasmine Thomas about a business idea and they are interested until Nicola attempts to seduce David into having sex, to which Jasmine discovers before David later finds out that Nicola had lied about being a widow; Donald is still alive but in a coma following a brian haemorrhage.
Nicola soon plots to murder Donald for his inheritance and asks David to help her, but he refuses to do so. Donald's estranged son Miles soon becomes suspicious of Nicola and attempts to warn his father, but he refuses to listen to Miles' warnings about Nicola. Later on Donald arranges for Nicola to take him on a picnic near the cliffs. Thereafter he reveals to have been aware of her plan all along and offers her the chance to kill him by shoving him off a cliff. Nicola refuses to do so, and Donald soon attempts to commit suicide in order to frame Nicola for his death; Nicola manages to save him at the last minute and Donald decides not to alert the authorities, but he gives Nicola a lowerly sum for their divorce before his death towards the end of 2008.
In 2009, Nicola starts a relationship with entreprenur Jimmy King and is soon pregnant with their baby - Angelica. She eventually gives birth at the same time as Jimmy's brother, Carl, has broken his marriage with Nicola's friend Lexi over the problems for their future. But then Lexi kidnaps Angelica and threatens to jump off the roof with her in front of Nicola and Jimmy, along with Carl and their half-sister Scarlett Nicholls in the process. Carl blurts out that he never loved Lexi and she gives the baby back to Nicola and Jimmy, who are both relieved that the baby is unharmed but angry with Carl for his actions. Later on in the year, Nicola finds out that Jimmy had been conned by his late father's ex-fiancee Charity Dingle and confronts her about it. Nicola argues with Charity in the street and they have a catfight that is broken up by Charity's estranged cousin Cain Dingle.
In 2010, Nicola proposes to Jimmy and they plan on getting married. But later on Nicola is forced to babysit her daughter Angelica and her friend Cathy Hope, the daughter of Viv and her new husband Bob Hope. Then an incident happens when Cathy bites Angelica, and in retribution Nicola bites Cathy back to show that biting his wrong. When Viv finds out what happened, she calls the police and Nicola is arrested. But all is forgiven in the end and Nicola manages to marry Jimmy just in time.
Over the next decade, Nicola has reformed into a better person over her family life with Jimmy and their daughter along with his other children. They overcome various situations such as Jimmy suffering amnesia, the reappearence of his estranged ex-fiance Kelly Windsor and her attempts to split him and Nicola up from their marriage, Nicola cheating on Jimmy with her sister's ex-boyfriend Steve Harland, comforting Jimmy when Carl is killed by his love rival Cameron Murray, being taken hostage by Cameron himself in "The Woolpack Siege", working for Charity's ex-husbands Jai Sharma and Declan Macey respectively, and becoming the manager of Home Farm Estates on Robert's behalf when he returns with his new wife Chrissie White and her family.

Later on, Nicola finds out what Rakesh has done and is furious when his wife Pyria sticks up for him despite everything that has happened.
