~ Nicolae Carpathia to Gerald Fitzhugh, claiming he will defeat Jesus Christ. |
Nicolae Jetty Carpathia, also known as the Antichrist, is the main antagonist of the Left Behind franchise. He is the apprentice and later the physical vessel of Satan.
He was portrayed by Gordon Currie in the original live-action films, Randy LaHaye in Vanished: Left Behind - The Next Generation, Bailey Chase in the new reboot series, and Trevor Parsons in the PC games.
Appearance[]
Carpathia was born of the meticulously planned genetic engineering experiment known as Project People's Victory. He had blue eyes and blonde hair, just like pure-blood Romanians. He was also extremely handsome, dashing, and tall, with thick muscles beneath his chest.
History[]
He was the dictatorial leader of the so-called "Global Community", and was an adversary to Jesus Christ and his followers.
He was born in the town of Cluj somewhere in the European country of Romania. His creation was the result of a genetic engineering and artificial insemination. The followers of Satan later convince a woman that her baby would change the world. Carpathia later went out in the wilderness, but in a reverse of Christ's temptation, he goes with the temptations.
Following the Rapture, Carpathia assumes a leadership role among the human race, effortlessly manipulating his way into becoming first the President of Romania and then Secretary-General of the United Nations. Upon assuming the office of Secretary-General, Carpathia issues sweeping reforms that centers all governmental power in the United Nations-later the Global Community-and in so doing effectively imposes a one-world dictatorship with himself at it's head. Carpathia's rise to power would effectively mark the beginning of the seven year Tribulation.
He was assassinated three and a half years into the Tribulation, and Satan takes over his body, thus making it appear that Nicolae was arisen.
He later established his own religion called "Carpathianism", replacing the previous Enigma Babylon One World Faith, in which Carpathia alone was to be regarded as the One True God. Every man, woman, and child was required to receive the "Mark of Loyalty"-in reality, the Mark of the Beast-and openly worship before a statue of Carpathia multiple times every day. Any who failed to do so for any reason were executed via guillotine.
In his final appearance during the Battle of Armageddon, he is defeated, and is thrown into the Lake of Fire. As Satan was being thrown into the Lake during the end of the Millennium, Carpathia could be heard repeatedly shouting: "JESUS IS LORD!" in anguish.
