Nicole is the main protagonist of the Class of '09 franchise.
She is a cynical and sociopathic student who enjoys ruining other people's lives for her amusement, largely motivated by the trauma of her past. The consequences of her parents' divorce included not only multiple stepfathers but also relocations that had prevented her from making lasting bonds or a stable sense of home. Her father's suicide was the most traumatic event in her life, and it left a scar on her psyche that deeply influenced her view of the world. Thus, Nicole has grown into a manipulative and cold person who does not feel any remorse for her cruel behavior. She is quick-witted and uses dark humor to mask her pain, often hurting others emotionally to feel in control. She is consistently showing the signs of sociopathy, though at times there was an evident, normal care for other people, which complicates the motives behind her actions and reveals that she does not act out of pure malice.
She has am equally complicated relationship with her best friend named Jecka, with whom she shared some views of unconventional morality, but the former often pulls her back, reminding her of the boundaries. Another relationship, with Emily, is toxic and goes through ups and downs, further illustrating Nicole's inability to maintain healthy relationships. Behind the tough exterior, Nicole has deep inner turmoil. Her past trauma, along with a deep feeling of loneliness, leads her to self-destructive behaviors such as self-harm and suicidal thoughts. These acts reveal an intense internal emotional battle and depression that she attempts to conceal through manipulation and emotional distance.
She is voiced by Elsie Lovelock, who also voices Mommy Long Legs in Poppy Playtime, Evelyn Claythorne in Meta Runner, and the Gloink Queen in The Amazing Digital Circus.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Nicole has faded skin, dark brown hair tied up in a excessive ponytail, and blue eyes. She is typically visible sporting blue and/or black garb and thin denims. Her fashion is from time to time defined as emo (as mentioned by way of Jecka), although normally tamer than the real late-2000s style. She is likewise wearing visibly chipped black nail polish and having self-harm scars on her wrist.
She has a slender and remarkable frame according to her buddies and the teenage boys at her excessive faculty. She is commonly described as very lovely, and she makes use of her looks to control people. She's about five feet tall, as shown in her mugshot in the chlorine bomb ending.
Personality[]
Nicole is a woman with traits commonly associated with sociopathy, alongside a compulsive need to control and manipulate the emotions of others. This behavior is driven not just by a desire to escape difficult situations but also for the thrill of dominating people. Despite these tendencies, she doesn't fully match the textbook definition of a sociopath, as true sociopaths are often devoid of empathy or deep emotional connections. Nicole, however, has moments where she genuinely cares, often with no personal benefit. Her formative years, marked by constant moving, a lonely childhood, divorced parents, and the trauma of finding out about her father's death, may have contributed to her current mindset. Nicole has a reputation for using blunt language, sharp wit, and quick comebacks, often turning serious situations into jokes with her dark humor. She's desensitized to violence and regularly engages in lying, gossiping, and manipulating others.
While Nicole is capable of abandoning moral principles for her own benefit, even destroying lives without regret, she is not physically aggressive. She typically seeks help when she feels threatened, suggesting that she isn't naturally strong or capable in physical confrontations—something both she and the original game acknowledge. Nevertheless, she frequently resorts to threats when angered. Despite her moral flexibility, she sticks to a personal code that’s highly selective. She has expressed deep disdain for pedophiles, sexual abusers, and rapists, often being cold or vindictive toward men. This view is shared, albeit less intensely, by Jecka. Although she occasionally claims to be straight, her evident contempt for men and her exclusive relationships with women, particularly with Jecka, suggest otherwise.
Biography[]
Throughout her childhood, Nicole moved around a lot due to her mother having eight different marriages, so she could never make friends. When she reached high school, for the first time she spent a second consecutive year at the same school, and she was able to make friends due to going through puberty, making her popular among the boys in her school.
Although she was finally getting comfortable, her brother got her family evicted by downloading illegal breakbeat mixtapes, causing them to move again. Nicole was furious and decided to stay with her father, who lived in the next neighborhood over. As she prepared to enter his house, she heard a gunshot and discovered that he had shot himself and left a suicide note stuck to the refrigerator with a cookie monster magnet blaming Nicole for his death.
This traumatizing event broke Nicole into the sadistic, emotionally detached delinquent who caused several misfortunes at her new school that usually involve her manipulating people to screw them over in the long run, or exploiting their mental issues to give them breakdowns. She seems to have disdain for all of her classmates (with the exception of Jecka, who she becomes friends with regardless of the player's choices) and teachers, but really goes out of her way to be especially cruel to people who have wronged her, no matter how petty the slight may have been. Perhaps the best example of this is when she pretends to be lesbian to date her classmate Ari, only to take advantage of the latter's dependency for her and abuse her at every opportunity, as revenge for Ari stealing her "depression" excuse to get out of homework. She also shows a blatant disregard for human life, wisecracking when she talks Kylar into committing suicide, and justifying Kyle's murder of his mother, saying she was "probably a bitch anyway."
In the series' third entry, The Flip Side, which is told from the perspective of Jecka, Nicole is at her worst, committing some of her most heinous deeds, such as betraying Jecka and having a transactional affair with her father as revenge for Jecka not letting Nicole in on the foot fetishist profiteering which drives Jecka to suicide when she discovers it, or when she uses Jecka's xanax to fatally poison Jeffery, and then blackmails Jecka into helping her cover up the crime, saying she would go down with her if she tried to call the police. It's implied that Nicole was always this monstrous, but that her cruelty is downplayed from her own perspective.
Villainous Acts[]
