~ Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill worshipping Trevor after mistaking him for Jock Cranley. |
Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill are minor supporting characters in the 2013 video game Grand Theft Auto V.
They’re among the Strangers & Freaks that Trevor can encounter in the game. They’re two elderly friends from Britain on a trip to Los Santos. After mistaking Trevor for celebrity Jock Cranley, they task him with stealing “souvenirs” from various celebrities.
Nigel was portrayed by the late Richard Easton (who also voiced a member of the Watchdogs in Manhunt 2) and Mrs. Thornhill is portrayed by Patricia Kilgarriff.
Biography[]
Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill are close friends and British tourists who are obsessed with Vinewood celebrities. After being caught rummaging through a celebrity’s trash by Trevor, the two mistake him for in-game celebrity Jock Cranley. Trevor decides to play into it. The two ask Trevor for several favors that involve stealing celebrity souvenirs. These missions see Trevor assaulting and, in one case, killing various celebrities to obtain requested items.
Trevor heads to Downtown Los Santos to locate actress Kerry McIntosh and her dog Dexie. He finds Kerry near the Vangelico Jewel Store in Little Portola, Rockford Hills. Trevor signals to Kerry, causing Dexie to flee. He pursues Dexie until she's cornered near the fire station. Trevor approaches Dexie and retrieves her expensive jewel-encrusted collar, valued at $3,000. Holding the collar, Trevor departs.
Trevor then tracks down Willie, a member of the band Love Fist, at a Vinewood nightclub. Inside the club, Willie chats with a groupie at the bar, while the rest of Love Fist occupies the club's second floor. To achieve a gold medal, the player must initially engage with the entourage surrounding the band members upstairs. In due course, Trevor approaches Willie and initiates a confrontation. He strikes Willie, dislodging his gold tooth, which may even result in the musician's death. Trevor sardonically apologizes to Love Fist's fans for his actions, retrieves the tooth, and exits the bar. After evading the ensuing wanted level, the mission concludes.
In the next mission, Trevor locates actor Tyler Dixon's house, which is enclosed by a climbable wall. Within the property, a gardener is busy next to a van and can be subdued. The objective is to retrieve Dixon's swim trunks, which are positioned on a chair beside the pool at the rear of the house. Dixon and a female companion are swimming in the pool and will raise complaints, eventually summoning the police if they spot Trevor. The mission concludes once Trevor acquires the swim trunks and successfully eludes any ensuing law enforcement pursuit.
Trevor’s next task involves stealing a golf club from film director Mark Fostenburg, who can be found on the golf course at the Los Santos Golf Club. He is accompanied by three guards who will respond aggressively if Trevor approaches too closely or opens fire. These actions will also prompt Fostenburg to make a hasty retreat. Hence, it is advisable to eliminate Fostenburg from a distance using a sniper rifle (he can be identified by his red polo shirt). The mission concludes once Trevor retrieves the golf club from the back of Fostenburg's golf cart and successfully evades the pursuing police.
After collecting the souvenirs, Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill plan to interview their favorite action star, Al Di Napoli, and Trevor helps them in a car chase that leads to Di Napoli's kidnapping.
Following a few days of captivity, Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill decide to release Di Napoli, fearing he might starve. They ask Trevor for advice on what to do with him and eventually request Trevor to handle the situation. The player can choose to either kill Di Napoli by placing his car on a railway line or release him in the countryside.

Trivia[]
- The scene where Trevor strangles Nigel appeared in Trevor's Character Trailer.
- The part where Nigel and Mrs. Thornhill start bowing down to Trevor while repeatedly chanting the words "We're not worthy", is a reference to Wayne's World.
- "RSGEDI021277" is written in the trashcans seen in the introduction cutscene. This is a reference to Rockstar Games and Edinburgh, the real-life location of Rockstar North headquarters and an unknown date of birth.
- During Vinewood Souvenirs - Al Di Napoli, if the player drives on the left-hand side of the motorway, Nigel will comment on Trevor "driving on the proper side of the road", a reference to the fact that vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road in the United Kingdom.
- Nigel's name could be a reference to Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys animated series. The name "Mrs Thornhill" supports this argument.
