Nightflight is a minor antagonist in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure from the 1989 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Nightflight was first seen in the Marvel UK story "Aspects of Evil", which showed him and the rest of the Air Strike Patrol serving Megatron during a Decepticon Civil War in an alternate 1991. They attacked Scorponok at a human settlement, leading to Hot Rod, Quickmix and Landfill turning up, with Scorponok manipulating the three Autobots into leading the Air Strike Patrol away from him.
He made his first present day appearance in "A Small War", where he was shown to be among the first Decepticon Micromasters created by Thunderwing on Cybertron. He and the rest of his patrol attacked Roadhandler, Powertrain and Seawatch when they turned up to rescue the captured Battle Patrol, but were tricked when Roadhandled convinced them the bomb he'd dropped was active and overpowered.
His first Marvel US appearance came in Issue #55 when he and the rest of the Air Strike Patrol were summoned to Earth by Scorponok to combat the recent good publicity created by the newly-arrived Autobot Micromasters. They joined Lord Zarak in confronting the Autobots, with Storm Cloud challenging Roadhandler to a wrestling match. Nightflight and the others made an attempt to kidnap the humans Roadhandler had befriended to force him to throw the match, but were stopped by the other Autobots.
In the following storyline, it was revealed that Nightflight and the others were actually working for Megatron. They raided MacDill Air Force Base, supposedly to steal an experimental plane but actually to draw the attention of Optimus Prime and the Autobots and draw them into a confrontation with Scorponok's Decepticons.
In "The Greatest Gift of All", Nightflight, Storm Cloud and Tailwind came to the aid of Whisper when he was ambushed by the Rescue Patrol. They made their last appearance in US Issue #68 when they attacked an oil refinery. They were opposed by human mutant Hector Dialonzo, with Nightflight being the third of the patrol to be offlined in the battle.
