“ | Well, well. The siege has everything in short supply... except fools. Why would you seek this place, stranger? Are you a vulture come to loot the bodies of our fallen warriors? Regardless, this is no place to make a name for yourself. The mountain is ours to protect. It is only a matter of time before Hell's legions are routed. | „ |

Nihlathak is a villain in the video game Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. He is the last surviving Elder of Harrogath who betrays his people by making a deal with Baal and granting him access to the Worldstone Keep.
Biography[]
Nihlathak was a member of the Council of Elders in the town of Harrogath. When the councilors learned that Baal's armies were approaching their homeland, they cast a Spell of Warding that would block passage of any spawn of Hell. It worked, but at the cost of all of their lives except Nihlathak's. Nihlathak lived with immense guilt of not dying with his peers, and his grief gradually drove him to madness.
Eventually, he struck a deal with Baal: he would give him the Relic of the Ancients, the most holy totem of the Barbarian people, in return for Baal sparing Harrogath. By possessing the Relic, Baal could reach the summit of Mount Arreat without being challenged by the Ancients. As Nihlathak was on his way to give Baal the artifact, Anya, daughter of one of the Elders, tried to stop him, but Nihlathak kidnapped her and imprisoned Anya in ice under the Frozen River in the Crystalline Passage.
Shortly after, a group of heroes arrived in Harrogath. They rescued Anya and brought her back to town. As Anya was close to being rescued, Nihlathak fled Harrogath. Subsequently, the heroes went on a quest to kill Nihlathak before he could fulfill his goal. With the help of Anya, they ventured into Nihlathak's Temple, finding him in the Halls of Vaught. The heroes succeeded in killing Nihlathak, but by the time they did so, the traitor had already given the Relic of the Ancients to Baal.
