Because my name is not "Thomas;" it is Nikolai, and I am Russian spy.
~ Nikolai revealing his true identity to the Park staff.

Nikolai (Russian: Николай), also known as Thomas, is a major character in the Cartoon Network series Regular Show.

He is a KGB agent working for M.O.M.M. from Russia who infiltrated the Park from the United States, under the name "Thomas," in order to steal the entire park and use it to improve Russian park technology. However, he later grew attached to the Park gang, and betrayed his home country for them (although he did the same thing to the U.S., as well), before he went into hiding.

He was voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who also played the Internet in the same show.

Biography[]

I was born on a cold winter's night in Kiev. But I was abandoned as a baby and declared property of the state. The KGB raised me to be the perfect weapon. No family or loyalties, except for Mother Russia. Some years ago I was embraced by a new M.O.M.M.: The Ministry Of Meadow Management, A KGB agency dedicated to research and espionage. Russian park technology is decades behind the rest of the world. In the world's theater, we are a laughing stock. What made American parks so good? We couldn't crack it. The order came from Commander Romanoff: Operation Park-Lift. We would obtain bogus credentials and sneak into the states. I would become Thomas, an average college student. We entered the US with surprisingly little resistance. Phase 1: Travel to target site. Inquire about internship opportunities. Say you will work for free. At the first chance possible, I would risk my life for the park. I would gain my coworkers' trust. I would fade into the background. I would say and do almost nothing. Phase 2: Make preparations for Phase 3. Execute Phase 4 orders. Transmit Phase 5 intelligence relating to Phase 6: Silencing potential threats to Phase 7.
~ Nikolai explaining his backstory.

According to the episode "The Real Thomas", Thomas was actually a Russian spy, and his mom was actually a robot with Italian accent programmed by M.O.M.M., the organization he works with. He posed as an intern named Thomas and gained the Park Workers' trust and friendship and stopped any FBI Agents who figured out his secret. It turns out he deceived his friends and working with another Russian spy named Natalia planned to remodel the park into a Russia-looking park and destroy the United Nations/Washington DC.

He went to be a new worker in the Park, he was exicted, later Benson hires him to work there. He also run against Muscle Man and accepts to apologize him, later he runs when Garrett Bobby Ferguson Jr. chases and brainwashes some Park members in Exit 9B. Well he digna His signature against him and the original GBF and others villains.

Nikolai was going to shoot the missile, but later had a change in heart after seeing the friendship he had with the park workers and disables the missile. He then leaves on the run from U.S. and Russia and bids his friends goodbye and runs away from the park to go into hiding.

Finally, after being able to hide his identity from both countries, Thomas did return to the park for a visit, such as attending Muscle Man's wedding, disguising as an elderly man.

Thomas later attends the park's Halloween celebrations, dressed as Sub-Zero II/Kuai Liang/Thundra from the Mortal Kombat.

Thomas also appeared in "Guys Night 2", where Mordecai, Rigby, Pops, Muscle Man, and Hi Five Ghost gave him a guy's night before he was to head over to the dam and go into hiding for good.

In his last appearance Thomas is sitting on the top of a Russia submarine while watching the park blasting into space. It can be assumed that he now works as a navy official. As seen where he raises his drink and bids his friends to space, Thomas likely became aware of an outcome danger that lies ahead to his friends, involving Pops' origin and his relationship with his brother, Anti-Pops.

It's unknown what happened to Thomas during the end of the series. However, one could assume that if he did get a spot in the Navy, he continued to atone for his crimes.

Personality[]

Thomas can be viewed as the "straight-man" of the Park staff; he is usually seen tagging along with the gang on their outings and occasionally during staff meetings.

From Seasons 4 and 5, he was shy but he was brave against the villains, he was note slacking like Mordecai, Rigby, Hi Five Ghosts and Muscle Man, he is too loyal to Benson.

He really faked cowardice, he was a secret agent with Natalia, he faked his antagonistic role against the Park Gang, later he redeems himself because Natalia manipulated him.

Trivia[]

  • During his earlier appearances, he wasn't originally written to be a spy posing as an intern but was originally supposed to be a regular intern. Some point later in the series did the writers come up with the plan and decided to implement the plot twist.
