Nina Myers is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Cheng Zhi) of the 24 franchise.
At first, Nina appeared to be federal agent and high ranking member of the CTU Los Angeles Department. However, she is later revealed to actually be a treacherous and corruptible rouge double agent who obtained government intel and disclosed them for several terrorists. She also became the archenemy of protagonist Jack Bauer throughout their long-running conflict, as it was Nina herself who murdered Jack's wife Teri Bauer as well as nearly causing the death of their daughter Kim. As such, Nina had once developed romantic feelings for Jack alongside their mutual acquaintance Tony Almeida, which was subsequently discovered to be for the sole reason of her treasonous betrayal.
She was portrayed by Sarah Clarke.
Biography[]
Season 1[]
During Day 1, Nina Myers was an undercover mole at CTU Los Angeles. She was secretly gathering information for an unspecified German terrorist syndicate that was working with Andre and Victor Drazen. Nina also keept her cover at CTU by assisting Jack Bauer in the field and Tony Almeida in the office. When she was discovered to have killed Jamey Farrell and made it look like suicide, she was discovered as a mole and killed Teri Bauer, who (as she saw it) had compromised her escape from CTU (her phone contact told Nina to kill anyone who might have overheard and understood her getaway instructions.) Jack caught Nina and she was arrested.
Season 2[]
During Day 2, it was revealed that she had given the schematics of the CTU building to terrorists, months before being uncovered in Day 1. This made her responsible for the bombing of CTU during Day 2, but she reasoned with Jack and George Mason, convincing them that she could find the whereabouts of Syed Ali, the terrorist that was plotting to detonate a nuclear device. After finding a suspect and returning back to Los Angeles on a plane, Nina killed the suspect and the plane was unexpectedly hit and crashed. Jack and Nina were then attacked by a group of Coral Snake mercenaries, a rogue ex-NSA team, and were forced to team up and fight them off. Nina then took Jack hostage, requested immunity from President David Palmer for past crimes and requested also the death of Jack Bauer, in exchange for the location of Syed Ali. Nina wanted to kill Jack because she knew he would go after her because she killed his wife. The President was forced to agree, but as soon as Nina gave the location to CTU, she was shot and apprehended, and Jack was saved. Jack then whispered something to Nina, but the audience doesn't hear what he said. However, in the script and rehearsals, Jack said to her: "I will hunt you down for the rest of your life."
Season 3[]
During Day 3, Nina tried to buy the Cordilla Virus for an unspecified client, but was outbid by the Salazars by fifteen million fifteen dollars. After this, she was arrested by CTU and tricked Jack into activating a Worm in CTU's system, although it was stopped by Chloe O'Brian. Nina briefly escaped custody before getting cornered by Kim Bauer (daughter of Jack and Teri Bauer) in the basement of CTU. Kim at first intended to kill Nina to avenge her mother but found she could not bring herself to do so. Nina took advantage of Kim's hesitation and raised her gun to shoot but was instead shot and wounded by Jack just before pulling the trigger. Jack then told Kim to leave the room so he can question Nina, and after Kim leaves and he determined that Nina no longer has any useful information, Jack executed her in cold blood with three shots at point-blank range, finally avenging the murder of his wife Teri.
Trivia[]
- Nina Myers is generally considered Jack Bauer's archenemy since she killed Jack's wife, Teri. This event ruined Jack's life and inadvertently caused much of the rest of the show to happen. Nina later attempted to kill Jack's daughter, Kim, in Season 3. The only other person who is so personal to Jack was Cheng Zhi, who tortured him in China for almost two years. As a result, Cheng and Nina are the two secondary antagonists of 24. They do not mastermind multiple terrorist plots like Charles Logan or Phillip Bauer, but they by far do the most damage to Jack personally.
- On the official 24 Facebook page, Nina is nicknamed the "Queen of Spades".
- Nina Myers was ranked number 13 on WhatCulture's list of "The 15 Most Deranged TV Psychopaths", writing: "Nina proves herself to be a cold, calculating killer whose ruthlessness and complete disregard for human life makes her a dangerous psychopath."
- Nina's fake I.D. in Season 3 says that her name is Sarah Berkeley, a reference to her actress Sarah Clarke who married fellow 24 actor Xander Berkeley, who played George Mason in the same show.
- A deleted scene from Season 2 reveals Nina to be romantically involved with Max, implying that he was the German she was working for in Season 1. Since Max carried out the CTU bombing with plans provided to him by Nina prior to Season 1, this makes sense.
- It is unclear who Nina was attempting to buy the Cordilla Virus for in Season 3. It couldn't have been Max, as he was either dead (as shown in 24: The Game) or incarcerated (as implied by Wayne Palmer) by then. Some have theorized she was working on behalf of Alan Wilson. If this theory is correct, the deal falling through would explain why Wilson resorted to simply creating his own bioweapon prior to Season 7.
