~ Nina warning Redverse Olivia about Jones' plans to collapse both universes.) |
Nina Sharp from the Red Universe, also known as "Meana", is a secondary antagonist of the TV series Fringe. She was a long-time confidante of the fourth season's overarching antagonist David Robert Jones, as well as a representative for his boss, Dr. William Bell.
She posed as her prime universe doppelgänger from the Blue Universe in order to activate FBI agent, Olivia Dunham with Cortexiphan, a drug Dunham was experimented on as a child by Bell.
Despite expertly manipulating Olivia, Nina was unable to use her the way Jones intended. She retreated to her home universe after being exposed. She was subsequently arrested and thrown in prison for her relations with Jones.
Despite believing Jones would come back for her, he never did and he was later killed by Bell, who was revealed to be the true mastermind behind the newly designed shape-shifters.
She was portrayed by Blair Brown, who also portrayed her prime universe counterpart in Fringe, Rachel Dunleavy in Smallville, Christine Penmark in The Bad Seed and Margie Winters in CSI: Miami.
Biography[]
Background[]
Blair Brown referred to the alternative version of her character as "Meana" due to her seemingly "mean" personality, and speculated that Nina may have become this way because she did not form an alliance with the parallel universe version of a younger William Bell, who died in a car accident. Consequently, Brown stated "she wasn’t at the party with all of the boys, the science boys" and thus developed an "outsider" perspective leading to her criminal activity.
Fringe[]
Season 1[]
The first time Redverse Nina is mentioned is in the first season finale. When Olivia unknowingly crosses over in her SUV, she waits for the prime universe Nina Sharp for their arranged 1pm meeting at the Mutsumi Hotel on Broadway in Manhattan. As it turns out, she is in Manhatan, in the Redverse. This version of Nina is said to be out of the country.
Season 4[]
Nina from the Redverse gasses Olivia's apartment and injects her with the Cortexiphan taken from Massive Dynamic. She later communicates with her boss, David Jones about the larger conspiracy on a "quantum entangled" typewriter.
She pays a house call to make amends with Olivia about an earlier confrontation, and to check on Olivia's general well-being. At the end of the thirteenth episode, she poses as an abductee.
She continued her ruse to extract information from Olivia Dunham. Olivia was kidnapped by Jones and left in a room with Sharp. Jones's men pretended to torture Nina to elicit Olivia's cooperation. Nina discovered that Peter Bishop would evoke the necessary emotional response from Olivia that would enable her to use her abilities.
After she got the information she needed from Olivia, Nina feigned illness and was removed from the room. She shared this information with Jones, who obtained Peter. Using her abilities, Olivia was able to free herself and Peter, causing electrical shortages throughout the facility. Jones and Nina escaped through a portal and returned to the Alternate Universe.
She is later captured by the alternate Fringe Division, when a shape shifter assists in catching her. She is under the belief that Jones will return for her, but he never does. She unintentionally gives away the fact that Alternate Broyles is indeed a mole for Jones and that leads to him being captured.
