Biography[]
Nish Panesar first came to Walford in August 2022 after being released from prison for murder. He soon reunites with his estranged wife Suki along with their daughter Ash and two sons, Kheerat and Vinny, respectively.
Soon enough, Nish begins to settle himself in Walford and starts operating his criminal family business in the square. He also reunites with his other son Ravi Gulati and is currently unaware that the latter's adopted father, Ranveer Gulati, was killed by Ravi shortly after attempting to rape Suki in a forceful attempt to get her to betray Nish by starting a "business" partnership with him instead. As such, Nish is confronted by his family over several events in the past - such as how it partly contributed to the death of his other son Jags just over a year ago.
In 2023, Nish has a dispute with Ravi upon learning that the latter is causing trouble with local policeman Jack Branning by seducing his wife Denise Fox and pursuing the latter's daughter Chelsea around the same time. Weeks later, he is unhappy to learn that Ravi has attacked his employee Keanu Taylor for supposedly grassing up his criminal activities; Ravi is later arrested for this and Nish reluctantly gets him released in order to ensure that Ravi's son, Nugget, will be happy with his father around. Later on Nish berates Ravi for his recklessness before going on to confront Keanu along with his fiancé Sharon Watts and her former husband Phil Mitchell for crossing paths with his family.
Nish and Phil Mitchell manage to strike a business deal together after constant attempts, meanwhile Suki and Eve Unwin have an affair and countlessly try to plot against Nish with an ultimate goal of getting him out of Walford once and for all, so that they can live happily together. However, an argument breaks out between Nish and Suki when he accuses her of cheating on him with Mitch Baker, they shout at each other and Nish accuses Suki of not understanding what pure love is and he persists to say that he may murder again. The next day, Nish and Suki celebrate a big day for their relationship whilst Eve jealously watches Suki, they enjoy the party and Nish dances with Bobby Beale and Freddie Slater. Some time later, Ash leaves Walford and Nish wishes that they had more time together. Nish continues to argue with Suki and persistently threaten her, making Suki want to get rid of Nish more and more. Nugget runs away from Ravi one night and Nish confronts Ravi based off of what Nugget had said and threatens him to never lay a finger on Nugget again but Ravi bounces back and snaps at Nish that he is in no position to judge Ravi’s parenting. Nish then makes it clear that Nugget is staying with him and Suki for as long as he likes. A few nights later, Suki and Eve arrive back home from a business trip however Nish begins to get suspicious of them and the unknown affair. The drama thickens when Ravi’s affair with Denise Fox becomes public and Nish quickly finds out, Ravi visits him and explains but Nish gets angry and furiously punches Ravi in the face and says that Ravi is pathetic. The next day, Nish bans Suki from attending Kheerat’s trial.
Ravi and Keanu Taylor have some issues and Keanu is consequently attacked because of this. Whilst in hospital, Nish visits Sharon Watts and Keanu and threatens the pair of them, and Sharon grabs Nish. Whilst they're in the Queen Vic, Nish and Ravi begin to argue with Phil and Sharon and Sharon makes it public that Ravi had been in jail. Nish backs Ravi up and says that he’s a part of the community as much as anyone else, but Sharon goes against this. Some weeks pass and Billy Mitchell is grieving over Lola Pearce-Brown’s upcoming death, Nish gets into a row with him in the Vic and tries to be respectful, Nish gifts Lexi Pearce a teddy bear and states he understands what’s going on, but Nish then makes a comment about Ben Mitchell which infuriates Billy and then Billy pushes him. and drinks some beers, Nish winds him up and Billy then loses his temper and begins to smash up the Minute Mart, Billy threatens Nish with a metal pole and Billy breaks down infront of everyone but Nish retaliates once again over what Billy had done and Phil throws money in his face. Nish rudely insults Billy when saying that he could hardly afford £20 let alone thousands. Billy gets extremely infuriated and then smashes the Minute Mart up even more, Billy is then arrested and Nish still doesn’t quiet himself, branding Billy as violent and dangerous. After Billy’s arrest, Phil and Honey Mitchell plead with Nish to drop the charges against Billy so that he can be there for Lola. Nish refuses to drop the charges resulting in Honey throwing a drink at him, shouting at him that he’s lucky it wasn’t hot. Eventually, after some persuasion and blackmail through Suki, Nish is convinced to drop the charges resulting in Billy being let out.
Vinny is left jealous when Nish asks for help with a job from Ravi, and not him. When he asks to help with the job, Nish calls Vinny immature and naive, telling him that he always causes a mess and leaves him to clean it up. He then tells Vinny that he needs to prove himself in order to be trusted, which causes Vinny to start drinking as the thinks he isn't enough. He confides in Suki, and tells her about the illegal job which causes her to call the police on Nish as she is trying to find a way out of the relationship to get with Eve. Nish accuses Vinny of calling the police on him, which causes him to attack Vinny but Suki confesses that it was her. Suki furiously admits that she doesn’t love Nish and that she never has, Nish is distraught to hear this and Suki persists to stand up to him and expresses her true feelings. Nish immediately questions Suki if she’s seeing someone else and Suki doesn’t answer, causing Nish to get angry, Nish claims Suki as his and that she always will be his no matter what. Later that night, Vinny enters the home to find Suki unconscious at the bottom of the stairs with Nish standing above her looking aggravated. Suki is rushed to hospital and Vinny accompanies her. Nish assures Vinny that Suki’s in good hands but Vinny gets suspicious of his father. Mitch pops round when Suki is discharged but Nish rudely slams the door on his face, Mitch grows really suspicious of Nish and that he may be abusing Suki, Nish is then arrested and taken into custody. The police state he is arrested for Actual Bodily Harm. After some time, Nish is released and returns home to his family. Suki then ends things with Eve.
Around a week later, Suki insists that Nish sacks Eve for her behaviour and not doing her job properly, Nish reluctantly agrees and then informs her she is sacked and Eve gets annoyed. Over time, things calm down for the two and their marriage gets ‘better’ Later on in the Vic, Phil asks for a favour but Nish rudely mocks him, however Suki assists Phil. During a game of poker, Nish bets his cufflinks and unfortunately loses them, Jack Branning then gets possession.
Upon Cindy Beale's explosive return to Walford, her partner Ian Beale introduces himself to Nish as a fellow entrepreneur and Ian then invites Nish for lunch to discuss business. Nish and Suki go to Ian for lunch the next day however Suki winds Ian up and brings up the past. Nish then states how he cannot afford to “get into bed with someone who’s likely to stab me in the back”. In response, Ian makes an inappropriate comment saying that Nish shouldn’t have married Suki, then adding on that if anyone should be worried it should be Ian because Nish was behind bars previously, both offended, Nish and Suki leave. Later that day, Cindy confronts Nish and explains how well-known Ian is and that Nish would struggle with competition regarding the Beale’s, however Nish makes it perfectly clear that he isn’t interested.
As the month goes on, Davinder goes missing and this causes tension for the Panesar’s. Despite this, the Beale’s are still eager to strike a business deal with Nish – They have a meeting in the Queen Vic and Cindy tries to reassure Nish with his ongoing struggles with Davinder, but Nish fiercely snaps back and shouts that he won’t take parenting advice from Cindy because two of her kids are dead and two of them won’t talk to her because she abandoned them, he also adds on that even though he went to prison for twenty years he’s still a better parent then Cindy. Cindy then retaliates and aggressively rips up the contract and chucks it at Nish. Nish almost acts but is quickly stopped by Vinny.
When Davinder’s location is revealed by Suki, who had been hiding the truth, Nish demands her to take him there alongside Ravi, Suki insists to not go with Ravi as he’ll just scare Davinder off. Nish agrees and the two head to Brixton - where Davinder is. They successfully find him however Ravi arrives, before anything they are quickly introduced to Priya Nandra-Hart, Davinder’s mum and Ravi’s ex. After a brief reunion, Ravi physically forces Davinder to come home. Later on, Priya and Avani Nandra-Hart (Davinder’s sister and Ravi’s daughter] are evicted from their flat, the mother and daughter duo arrive in Walford looking for hospitality off of the Panesar’s. Priya and Avani pull a few tricks and are allowed into the Panesar house, Avani instantly bonds with Ravi and Nish. The news of Davinder’s return soon spreads and the police come to question him, Suki adds on that she’d like to stay however Nish doesn’t allow her and guides her to the kitchen, where he viciously abuses her and almost strangles her, Nish then forces Suki into saying that Kheerat killed Ranveer and not Ravi.
After a few more tricks and some bonding, Priya sets a good impression to Nish and they go out for a drink together. Priya then gets into an argument with Stacey and Jean Slater and they instruct Priya to never rob their property again, however in defence, Nish bites back at the two and says that it’s his property and Priya is more then welcome to enter it, leaving Stacey and Jean in disgust. The night goes on and Priya then collects Avani to ‘leave’ until Nish says that they’re not going anywhere and can stay at the Panesar house and anyone that has a problem with it can leave. A few days later, Nish treats Priya to a shopping trip and they both buy new clothes and show off to Suki. To top everything off, Nish then gives Priya a job at the Minute Mart.
When Tom Cotton and Kathy Cotton move in to one of Nish's flats, Tom approaches Nish for a loan and Nish gives him a loan but makes I clear he has to pay it back on time. When the time comes for Tom to pay Nish his first instalment Nish warns him not to keep him waiting or he'll tell Kathy about Tom's debts. Later on, Albie Watts goes missing and Nish vows to get him back alongside the community, after some unsuccessful searches, Albie isn’t found. Later that night, Nish announces in the cafe that Albie unfortunately hasn’t been found. Nish then has many more encounters with Tom and threatens him persistently, doubling his interest rate on the loan. The next morning, Nish reaches out to Keanu and explains how bad he feels. Nish continues to nag at Tom and remind him of his growing debt. In an attempt to solve his issues, Tom sets fire to Kathy’s Cafe and it later explodes. Nish is alerted and rushes out of the minute mart however Nish doesn’t say or do anything. Some days later, Nish sends his regards to Tom and then questions the investigator, trying to find out information on the fire. When everyone gathers round in the Vic, Nish notices Harvey shamefully looking at Tom, Nish then approaches Tom when he’s alone and says that in goodwill, the debt is cancelled however Nish reveals that he secretly knows Tom burnt down the cafe for insurance money, Nish then blackmails Tom and states that he must convince Kathy to sell the cafe plot of land to him or else everybody finds out the truth.
Nish has a family meal in Walford East with Priya, Avani, Davinder and Suki. Avani talks about not attending school but then Nish states that she must go to school and she’ll be applied for Walford High, Priya and Avani are reluctant about this. Later on, Nish enrolls Avani into Walford High but Avani is fearful that she’ll have to move again and lose her friends, Priya states that Nish loves Avani but she just needs to figure out a way to make Nish love herself too, after some thought, Priya kisses Nish although he quickly backs out as Suki and Vinny storm in. Nish then protests his innocence and kicks Priya and Avani out of the house, Suki later sees Eve who tells her that she's happy for Suki to have more of her family around and that she's not alone with Nish. Suki decides to let Priya and Avani stay, Priya later tells Suki that she can tell that Suki doesn't love Nish and that she would never have made a move if she thought for one second that they were happy. Vinny later presses Suki for answers and she emotionally admits that she doesn't love Nish and that she wants Nish and Priya to get together to give her an excuse to leave him, Vinny then realises Suki still loves Eve and tells Suki that if she wants to leave Nish them he won't stand in her way.
Suki then makes a plan to leave after getting Vinny’s blessing. She writes Nish a letter and then goes to leave Walford, news quickly spreads to Eve who rushes to the station to get Suki and to Eve’s surprise, Suki is still there. They then confess their love for one another, Nish later arrives home with Priya with the letter waiting on the table for him. To Suki’s surprise, Nish hadn’t opened the letter when she arrived home, but instead, Priya had seen it and then her and Suki negotiate an agreement so that Nish doesn’t find out about the affair. Suki pays Priya £3,000 behind Nish’s back, however Nish watches the two from the window in McKlunkey’s. Soon after, he confronts Priya and Suki and then takes away the money “family don’t rob family” Priya then demands that Suki must find another way to pay her, so Suki consequently robs £200 from the Minute Mart. Later that day, Suki cooks a feast for the family until Nish is disturbed by Vinny, who informs him that the £200 is gone. Nish then rushes over to the Minute Mart, abandoning dinner.
As he watches the CCTV, he is shocked to see Suki and Eve kissing from earlier in the day. Nish is horrified to learn about the affair, he rages and smashes a range of bottles in the Minute Mart, cutting his hand in the process, he then storms into the street but is quickly stopped by Ravi - Nish then reveals the whole truth to Ravi about the affair, Ravi takes Nish to Walford East to sort his hand out and create a plan, Ravi insists that Nish needs to be calm and not go guns blazing, or else he’ll end up back inside. Nish ‘agrees’ and calmly heads home. The first thing Nish sees is Suki’s phone on the table, Nish goes onto it and texts Eve, informing her to meet in Walford East as there is news. Eve listens to this and plans on meeting Suki, not Nish. Upon arrival, Nish waits for Eve in the kitchen and Eve speaks to Nish, Nish then states that he knows everything about the affair, or so he thinks. Things quickly get heated as Eve begins to tell Nish all of the details about the affair, Nish is disgusted over this and gets angry. Eve persists with what she’s saying and how that Suki doesn’t love Nish but instead loves Eve and that they’ve been on and off for around a year. Nish cannot believe what he is hearing and begins to shout at Eve and threatens her. Eve doesn’t care about his threats and picks up her bag, ready to walk off and leave with Suki. Nish stops her but Eve dismisses him and goes to leave the restaurant until Nish angrily follows her and viciously strikes Eve in the face with a champagne bottle, sending her unconscious. Nish then drags Eve into the kitchen as Ravi arrives. Ravi is shocked to see Eve lying there until Nish reveals the full truth. Additionally, Nish implies that he cannot finish Eve off as he’s still on license, so he orders Ravi to do it. Ravi rejects this as he’s still on license too and has a family. Nish then shouts at his son and guilt trips Ravi by saying that “You’re my best boy” as he yet again orders Ravi to do something life-changing - killing Eve. Nish persists to convince Ravi into killing Eve and Ravi eventually agrees. The devious duo drag Eve into the boot of a car and Ravi then drives her to a private location, Eve and Ravi fight and it eventually leads up to Ravi sparing Eve’s life but the result is she must leave Walford forever and act as dead. Eve agrees and runs away into the unknown. Upon Ravi’s return to the square, he informs Nish that Eve is ‘dead’ and Nish is relieved and thanks Ravi for doing so.
When Tom and Kathy finally come to terms to sell the café, they quickly invite Nish over to talk business. Nish arrives and speaks to Kathy and she states that she loves the café so much and will only sell it for what it’s worth. Eventually, they agree on a figure and sign the contract, to celebrate the sale, Nish instructs Tom to go and get some champagne. Whilst Tom is away, Nish reveals to Kathy that his planning permission has been approved for him to build flats where the café is, Kathy is infuriated on the inside but cannot act due to her signing the contract. Nish then makes a sly joke about Tom burning down the café to claim on the insurance, although Kathy doesn’t take it as a joke and instead is suspicious and instantly goes hunting for the truth. Kathy finds out about Tom’s antics and kicks him out. The next day, Kathy gets angry towards Nish over how much he’d been threatening Tom and making his life a misery and she demands for an apology. Nish then rudely says Kathy should consider herself lucky because she can retire so early and Kathy attempts to attack Nish but Ian quickly stops her. Elaine Peacock then threatens Nish to calm down or get out. Seconds later, Nish starts to insult Bernadette Taylor and calls her the “local child-catcher” then “child-trafficker” and Nish persistently winds her up until Keanu furiously grabs Nish and they nearly fight but Sharon and Vinny prevent the fight from happening. Bernadette then begins to break down after being insulted by a horrible Nish. Nish and Ravi are then arrested for the 'murder' of Eve Unwin. However, when Jack Branning sees Eve Unwin in Stacey Slater's house after Suki and Eve didn't flee England he calls the police that Eve is alive and Nish and Ravi are released.
On Christmas Day, an officer gives Nish his clothes alongside some cufflinks and Nish soon returns home. When he gets home, he greets Suki and makes her sit at the table and acts as nothing had happened, despite their conflict a few days ago. Ravi also returns home and Nish guides him into the kitchen where he punches him for not killing Eve and going against his father. Later on, Jack, discreetly checking on Suki, goes to No. 41 for a tin opener, Nish gives him one and Jack leaves - Jack was instructed by Stacey to do this. When Jack leaves, Nish senses something seems off and grabs the keys out of Suki’s coat and locks the front door so she can’t escape. Back at the table, Suki says she’s going to the bathroom but as Nish predicted, she makes a run for the door, Nish catches her in the act and forces her to come back to the dinner table, despite her saying she doesn’t want to. Avani then adds on that “You can’t force her!” however Nish angrily screams at her and tells her to shut up, Suki then runs into the kitchen and tries to get to the back door but she is quickly cornered by Nish until Ravi saves her. grabs Nish and surprisingly pins him against the worktop - giving Suki the opportunity to escape. Suki runs and looks for Eve but a cautious Stacey notices Suki panicking and Suki shouts that Nish is after her so Stacey and Suki seek safety in the Vic, alongside Kathy, Denise, Linda and Sharon. Ravi lets go of Nish and aggressively punches him in the face, knocking him into a chair. Ravi then calls Nish out for being a bully and that Ravi won’t allow for Nish to bully his own kids. Nish quickly grabs a rolling pin and bludgeons Ravi in the face, sending knocking him out. Meanwhile, in the Vic, Suki tells Stacey, Linda, Sharon, Denise and Kathy about her conflict with Nish and Eve. One of them insists that Suki calls Nish and informs him to come and talk with her at the Vic and that he won’t do anything because they’d all be there to protect Suki, she then agrees with the idea and calls Nish. It doesn’t take long for him to arrive. When Nish gets there, he is greeted by the six women but asks them to go away and let him and Suki talk in private. They decline and say that they need to be there for Suki. Suki then expresses her true feelings to Nish and that their marriage is over and that she doesn’t want to be with him anymore. Nish refuses to come to terms and Stacey imperatively tells Nish that he needs to understand that Suki doesn’t want him anymore. Nish pleads with Suki to give him another chance and that he’ll make her happy. Suki turns around stating that she can’t bare to look at him. Suddenly, Nish fiercely grabs Suki and attempts to take her away but the women defend Suki and all pull on him to get her off, Nish swings his arms and hits Linda in the face, giving her a thick lip, she then goes to make a call. The remaining women still try to save Suki but all panic as Nish punches them all off, Kathy grabs onto Nish but yet again he powerfully pushes her off. At this moment, Denise realises that they’re out of options and grabs a glass bottle and charges at Nish, smashing it on his head, saving Suki and sending him unconscious. Linda puts the phone down and walks back in, shocked to see Nish, Suki worriedly looks at Nish although Kathy is confused to Suki’s reaction. Stacey goes down to Nish’s body to check him over but her hands get covered in blood. Denise shakes and panics as she looks at a so-thought dead Nish. Sharon then goes down to Nish, checks his pulse - “He’s dead” the women all believe him to be dead but they are quickly interrupted by Keanu walking in. The women struggle to process the events and Sharon starts her own conflict with Keanu. The women go and assist Sharon but Suki stays with Nish, desperately giving him CPR in an attempt to save him, after some mouth-to-mouth, Nish starts breathing again and Suki is relieved. She quickly runs and tells Denise that he’s alive. The Six women then make up a plan and suggest to call an ambulance but in the end, they decide not to and that it’d be better to just monitor Nish’s condition until something happens. Denise then keeps an eye on Nish although things take a turn for the worse when his breathing decreases. The next morning, Nish is taken into the hospital and placed into an induced coma. The nurse believes that Nish will be okay.

Nish later arrives home and is accompanied by Priya, Suki comes for a word about the café converting to flats and Nish supposedly agrees to abandon the plan of flats. Later that day, Denise unexpectedly visits Nish and Suki and persistently questions Nish on the attack on what he knows, thankfully for her, he doesn’t remember much. Although he later vows to get justice when speaking to Priya.
After Kat Mitchell is cheated on by Phil, she grows closer to Nish. He then offers her a flat on George Street. He shows her the flat and Kat is satisfied. He later sleeps with Kat after a date. Nish’s memory slowly starts to regenerate and he begins to remember everything - he confronts Denise, Suki and Linda over what really happened that night and they almost all fumble. Nish then threatens to go to the police and tell them everything unless Suki signs all the businesses over to him. After some panicking and conversations, Suki decides to allow Nish to take everything but leave her something small, like the café. The next week, Nish is determined to find the truth and invites Suki over for dinner, after being served divorce papers, Nish rips them up. Still determined, Nish breaks into Stacey’s home to confront her, stating that he knows Keanu wasn’t there when he got attacked. Although, Jack comes to Stacey’s rescue and orders Nish away. The following day, Nish plays with Denise’s anxiety by telling her that Jack and Stacey were together last night, when they sent him away. Nish then ultimately warns her and says that was the last straw. Nish then proposes a new settlement with Suki, ensuring that he gets every business and Suki is left with nothing. At first, Suki fights for her empire but later gives in and lets Nish have it all, serving him with the papers. Kat and Nish continue their relationship, Nish reopens Bridge Street Café as “Nish’s” but is stunned to see there is a leak which has soaked the floor, he then postpones the reopening. Bernadette, desperate to get her job back, calls a plumber and the floor is fixed. To her expectations, Bernadette gets her job back. After publicly reopening it, Bernadette accidentally plays a voice note with Keanu’s voice which publicly announces Keanu’s vendetta against Sharon. Karen then returns and causes chaos for the residents.
On the other hand, Kat and Nish take a tumble and end their relationship, Kat tries again with Phil but it fails. Nish then kicks Kat and her children out of their flat. After more tension, Tommy Moon runs away so Nish provides help for Kat, whether she wants it or not. Nish then finds Tommy and persuades him to forgive Kat. Nish and Kat then give their relationship another go but Nish reveals to Priya that he is just using her for her value, not actual romance. The following week, Nish hires his dodgy lawyer, Roger Peel, to try and ‘help’ Kat deal with her divorce and share of the businesses. Roger tells Kat that the only way for her to keep her businesses is to transfer it into someone else’s name for the time being. After some thinking, Kat speaks to Suki and quickly realises this is one big setup for Nish to get Kat’s businesses. Kat and Suki then blackmail Roger, but Priya overhears and informs Nish of Kat’s plan. Back at No. 41, Kat and Nish chat until Nish demands the truth, revealing his true intentions for using Kat, she then chucks a vase at him and tries to run away, Nish turns physical, but Kat retaliates. Kat manages to escape as Suki and Eve come to her rescue, one big argument then starts in the street. Stacey then threatens to send Nish down. Nish, enraged, calls DC Whisson and reports Stacey as his attacker at Christmas.
Stacey speaks to the DC at the station although she doesn’t reveal anything detrimental. Nish publicly shouts in the street that Stacey attacked him, Stacey fears the worst and uses her one phone call to beg Jack to get Nish to withdraw his accusation. Surprisingly, Nish does. Later on, Suki visits Nish to try and settle things and be civil, Nish initially listens to her until things begin to get heated as he tries to strangle her, at that moment, Ravi, Vinny and Priya save Suki and get Nish away. That evening, Suki casually sits at the table with the family until Nish walks in, ordering her to leave. Suki then tells Nish that Masood Ahmed is more than happy to have only Suki’s name on the lease, removing Nish. Vinny also states that he’s signed his 50% of the businesses to Suki, Nish’s anger quickly rises up as he bursts and pins Vinny against the wall, Ravi swiftly pulls Nish off and drags him out of the house, taking Nish’s keys and chucking him onto the ground.
