| ~ Nisha Kadam |
Nisha Kadam is a supporting antagonist in Borderlands 2 and one of the playable protagonists in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. Nisha was a tough and skilled gunslinger, who rose to infamy due to her outstanding combat ability as well as cunning, killing countless bandits from as early as early adulthood. She would specialize in political assassinations primarily focusing on those who were already bandits themselves, her skill catching the attention of Handsome Jack. She would become a Vault Hunter under Jack along with others, and personally played a part in his descent into evil and rise to power. However, unlike most of her comrades, Nisha would continue to support Jack even after he became a tyrant, eventually becoming his girlfriend. She would then herself descend completely into villainy, becoming the tyrannical and sadistic sheriff of Lynchwood.
She was voiced by Stephanie Young.
Biography[]
Nisha had horrific childhood where she constantly had to endure the cruelty of her psychopathic mother, but she did at least have a somewhat healthy relationship with her father. Her physical abilities blossomed early mainly out of survival, becoming able to dodge her mother's assaults. Her father would eventually gift her a puppy, and was the first thing in her life that she was able to truly give her love to. Nisha loved her pet dearly, but tragically during yet another one of her mother's rampages, her dog was struck by accident. This triggered an unknown violent reaction, causing it to attack Nisha relentlessly, all the while her mother laughed at her daughter's misfortune. After being tended to by her father, Nisha brutally killed her dog, potentially being the first spark of sadism and animal cruelty she would eventually grow into.
Personality[]
Vicious, proud, and perfectly content in brutal violence, Nisha's joys come from killing her enemies and she is not entirely picky on who she considers such. While Nisha can come off as a fun loving cowgirl, and she was originally a kindhearted and innocent young woman, there is an undeniable darkness within her that over time would consume her. As time progressed, just killing her foes wasn't enough anymore, while in Borderlands: The Presequel, Nisha wasn't really a hero by any stretch of the imagination, she was composed and could fight the good fight if needed if it meant providing her with violence. By the time of the second game though, and after having spent years as Handsome Jack's lover, Nisha would become a horrific monster, with all her worst attributes dialed to 11. She would brutalize and gruesomely torture her enemies, enjoying every second and wanting to find even greater extremes to dispense pain and suffering. This wasn't exclusive to humans either, having a dark pleasure in tormenting animals as well. She ruled over Lynchwood with an iron fist, and even the most laughable, benign offenses would be punishable by death by her laws, laws she enforced with extreme dedication.
Despite the obscene levels of evil she displayed, Nisha was still able to retain her sense of honor, and always kept her word, fighting the Vault Hunters fairly after saying she'd do so, and she was nonetheless a capable leader and would not harm her allies and underlings. Even when her right hand man Deputy Winger explicitly went against her word and tried to do everything in his power to dissuade the Vault Hunters from angering her, she did not take it as an offense.
Trivia[]
- Nisha is the second protagonist in the Borderlands series to become a villain, following Wilhelm and preceding Aurelia. All three of them were also playable protagonists in the same game together.
