Noah Claypole is a supporting antagonist in Oliver Twist. He is an extremely coward and opportunistic, skinny bully who does a job only if it's easy to him. He is Oliver's first rival.
Biography[]
Noah was Mr Sowerberry's apprentice who got jealous of Oliver being the new addition to the funeral business. He would often refer to Oliver as Workhouse since Oliver came from a workhouse run by the beadle Mr. Bumble.
Some time after Oliver was first brought into the business, Noah insults Oliver's late mother (by calling her a regular right-down bad'un) at which point Oliver finally goes berserk and pounds Noah until Mrs Sowerberry locks him in a coffin and asks Noah to get Mr Bumble. Once Mr Bumble arrives he is stunned that Oliver picked up the strength to stand up for himself. He locks Oliver into the celler, only for Oliver to escape to London.
After Oliver escaped, Noah didn't seen for a while, until he appears again while he is escaping with Charlotte from Mr. Sowerberry, for stealing his money. He enters Three Cripples inn for hiding in a nook place, where he meets Fagin and joins his gang. He robs little children under the name of Morris Bolter, for himself and his gang.
Some time later after he joins the gang, Fagin assigns a task to him to track Nancy about where she is going. "Morris" does that and finds out that Nancy is betraying the gang, and she is telling the secrets of the gang to Rose Maylie and Mr. Brownlow. He also indirectly caused to Nancy's death by finding her betrayal and telling it to Fagin.
After Bill Sikes murdered Nancy, all of his gang are arrested; including Fagin, who gets arrested while he is trying to escape. Noah is arrested with him too. But he saves himself from prison by selling out Fagin, and goes on to become an informer because it's the easiest and safest job he can think of.
