Natalia Night, better known as Nocturna, is the main antagonist of the episode ”Nocturna” in Season 1 of the 2024 DC animated noir superhero series Batman: Caped Crusader.

Biography[]
"Nocturne"[]
In the night time in Dr. Leslie Thompkins' Orphanage, a young boy name Jace slept, until he was awoken by Dickie, whom asked him to come with him. Two boys went to the edge of the forest, but Jace worried that they could get in trouble, yet Dickie told him to not panic, as it was worth the risk to see the carnival in Gotham. Suddenly from the shadows, Nocturna appeared and scared them; she calmed them and explained that an event had magic to see, if they were brave enough to step into the dark. Dickie said he was not afraid, so she dared him to pet two headed goat, which he declined. Nocturna called him a chicken which made Dickie willing to accept the dare, but instead of finding the animal, Nocturna cornered Dickie inside a dark trailer and ambushed him.
Last night Dickie went missing, so Jace found Nocturna to ask her what happened to him, since he never came back; she claimed that Dickie was in the trailers, thus led Jace supposedly to him. Then in the trailers, Jace calling for him, eventually finding Dickie, but in weakened state; distracted by his friend's poor state, Jace didn't realize it was a trap, as Nocturna grabbed his throat, absorbing his lifeforce from his mouth, until her brother Anton Night stopped her; Anton reminded her of the agreement last night, which was that only one boy could go missing to avoid detection. He was worried his sister, Natalia, might go overboard, but she noted that if this was the last one, she can continue absorbing Jace.
Natalia went back out into the carnival and lured another girl from the same orphanage group, Stephie, distracting her with and through a maze of mirrors. Eventually, Nocturna cornered Stephie in the same trailer as Dickie and Jace, and likewise fed on her lifeforce. Anton distressingly stopped her feeding again, insisting that this was too many victims, thereby people will find out about her condition; Natalia rationalised that she should simply absorb *all* of the orphans' lifeforces, as to remove the issue of witnesses. However, Anton couldn't accept his sister going down such a dark path, so pleaded that she cease the feedings; yet driven by hunger pangs and anxiety brought upon by her condition, Natalia knocked her brother across the room, with him crashing into a book case that pinned him against the wall. Natalia hysterically blamed him for her outburst, and left the trailer, and her victims still alive for the time being.
Nocturna found a new target as another orphan, Carrie, was target practicing with her sling shot, alone in the woods. Nocturna complimented her, which Carrie accepted, and revealed that she was preparing to hunt down the perpetrator that took her fellow orphans. Nocturna invited Carrie to explore the carnival, but Carrie refused; when Nocturna tried to convince her, she refused again. Becoming irritated, Nocturna grabbed Carrie by the arm and dragged her towards the carnival, however, Batman appeared, splitting Nocturna from her next feast. Batman told Nocturna to surrender, but she rejected this; when he tried to pull her, he was shocked by her super strength, as she tossed him around and overpowered him. When Nocturna was strangling Batman, Carrie fired her sling shot at her, which startled Nocturna enough for Batman to turn the tides of the fight and escape her grasp. Batman repeated his plea for her to yield so she can receive help for her condition, but Nocturna complained that he sounded like her brother. Batman revealed that Anton had died from his injuries, which Nocturna was in momentary denial, before accepting her mistake and became filled with remorse and self-loathing.
As Nocturna's condition had the vampire-like trait of absorbing life from others, she also had its weakness of sunlight; as the dawn rose, Natalia solemnly stood in the light. Batman urged her to get into the shadows, but she refused, admitting that she just wants to die now; while Natalia suffered burns from the light, Batman used his cape to shroud her, ensuring that she was protected from the sun. Batman asked Carrie to get help, which she did.
Later, Natalia was kept under guard in the hospital, with her surviving the brush with the sun, and awaiting to undergo treatment that would hopefully return to her a semblance of normal health and well-being. Although, she was under guard due to her kidnapping and weakening of the children, and manslaughter of her brother.
Dickie, Jace, and Stephie recovered from their drained conditions, and listened as Carrie regaled them with the story of how she saved the Batman.
Trivia[]
Nocturna's victims and attempted victim were Dickie, Jace, Stephie, and Carrie - likely adaptations of Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Stephanie Brown, and Carrie Kelly, all of whom filled the role of Robin in certain points of time and versions.
Nocturna was originally planned to be a villain the Batman: The Animated Series, however, the network supposedly wouldn't allow them to implement a vampire, due to squeamishness of having a character revolve around blood. While this version is vastly different, she is still a vampire in certain technical aspects.
