Nolan Booth is an art thief and the main deuteragonist of the 2021 Netflix film, Red Notice.
He was played by Ryan Reynolds, who also portrayed Deadpool in the X-Men films, the Eteon Director in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw, Dude in Free Guy and Carver in Bullet Train.
Biography[]
The son of a Swiss cop and an American professor, as a child, his father gave him the silent treatment for a whole year after wrongly suspecting him of stealing his watch. Upon actually finding it, he refused to apologize and sent his son to boarding school.
Booth starts the film off by stealing one of Cleopatra's three bejeweled eggs at a museum, swapping it with a convincing fake and lingering in the crowd out of curiosity. FBI Profiler John Hartley arrives to investigate and pours a can of cola on the forgery, melting it. Booth then makes a hasty getaway and flees on a motorcycle, but is later found and arrested in Bali.
Hartley is later thrown into prison due to suspected ties to Sarah Black, Booth's rival. Booth loudly announces to the rest of the inmates that Hartley worked for the FBI, resulting in Hartley being attacked by another inmate. Booth and Hartley are then called to the captain's office, where they meet Black, who offers Booth freedom and 10% of the cut if he helps her find the third egg. He bluntly refuses and later plots to steal the third egg with Hartley.
Booth and Hartley break out of the prison and hijack a helicopter before taking a plane. They break into Sotto Voce's mansion and attempt to steal Cleopatra's second egg, but fail due to Black appearance and are captured by Voce, who she was working for. The duo are brought to a bullfight, where the Black tortures Hartley until Booth gives in and reveals that the third egg is in Egypt. She then knocks out Voce and Booth and Hartley escape. Booth reveals that he lied about the egg's location, it was actually in Argentina.
Booth and Hartley travel to Argentina and find the third egg in a Nazi bunker, but Black and Interpol arrive. Booth, Hartley and the Black escape, but Hartley reveals himself to be in league with the Black and they handcuff Booth and leave him to be arrested. However, Booth easily escapes his prison transport.
Months later, Booth leaks out Hartley and Black's bank account, getting their assets frozen, and tips Interpol off on their location. He confronts the two of them on their boat and offers to help them escape if they agree to perform a heist with him. Hartley and Black begrudgingly agree.
