“ | No, love. That'd be me. Hello Ethan. These must be the cleaners I've been hearing so much about. Ste, I presume. Which would make you Sienna. Is that Sienna with two 'N's? I hope I got the spelling right, nothing worse than typos on an urn. Pop in! You don't want to be late for the funeral! | „ |
~ Norma Crow's first lines in Hollyoaks. |
Norma Crow is a major character of the British soap opera television series Hollyoaks, serving as the main antagonist of 2022 and a major character in 2023 and 2024.
She was portrayed by Glynis Barber, who also portrayed Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders.
Biography[]
Norma Crow first came to Hollyoaks in late April 2022 and it transpired that she is a powerful gangland boss known as "The Undertaker". Furthermore, she used her legitimate status as an undertaker as a front for her criminal activities.
Upon her arrival, Norma made her fearsome and ruthless nature clear when targeting both her allies and enemies alike. She confronted Sienna Blake and her accomplice Ste Hay, along with their friend Ethan Williams, over the theft of her money - which Ethan had been laundering through the Wham! Glam! Thank You Tan! business. She had her chauffeur Asher Jones, who was supposedly Ethan's accountant at the time, take the trio to the Mollihurst & Co Funeral Services and them captive there. Norma brandished a gun and, making it clear that she intends to execute someone as punishment over the theft, tells Ethan that he must decide who should be killed.
Ethan admits to stealing her money and offers to let Norma kill him in exchange for letting Ste and Sienna live. Norma is ready to kill Ethan in front of Ste and Sienna, but instead surprises them both by suddenly turning the gun on Asher and shooting him dead. Norma revealed that Asher was a police informant and that he had to die because of it. She then fires Ethan before forcing Sienna and Ste to cover-up Asher's death, telling the pair that they worked for her now.
Later on, Norma crosses paths with Sienna's lover Warren Fox and learns about his reputation as the village hardman - growing more interested with the fact that Warren is a career criminal and gangster altogether. She plans to force Warren to work for her by targeting Sienna and their twins, Sophie and Sebastian. This is taken further when Norma finds out that Sienna has planted a urn that nearly prompted detective Zoe Anderson to investigate her involvement in Norma's criminal activities. In retribution, Norma kidnaps the twins and this gets Warren's attention. She attempts to hire him, but Warren refuses and threatens Norma into staying away from his family.
In June 2022, Norma turns her attention to fellow resident James Nightingale and kidnaps him after learning that he attempted to get her to sort out his debt to a man named Jeremy Fanning - the attempt for James was to get Norma's number from Sienna to no avail. To avoid Norma from executing him, James claims that he can be an asset to her; Norma eventually relents but tells James that he'll have to do a criminal job for her if she is to pay his £37,000 debt.
In July 2024, she is confronted at gunpoint in her home by a mysterious gangland figure named Blue. She demands to know the person's identity before the figure shoots Norma, killing her in the end. Later on, it is revealed that Blue's identity is Dave Williams and that he killed Norma as part of his vendetta against Warren for his role in the death of Dave's daughter Lizzie a few years ago.
Trivia[]
- While she had officially killed one character onscreen so far, it is confirmed through some of her scenes and dialogues that Norma Crow has killed more people off-screen.
