Biography[]
Norman Osborn is the owner of Oscorp Industries, along with his assistant Wardell Strom but the Kingpin heavily supports his company, and wants Norman to kill Spider-Man. Needing the necessary weapons, Norman acquires help from Spencer Smythe who supplies him with Spider Slayers. Norman had planned to invent a new chair for his disabled son, Alistair, once Spider-Man is captured. After the Slayer catches the wrong person, Spider-Man and the first Spider-Slayer, the Black Widow, fights in Oscorp, which explodes, leading everyone to believe Spencer died in the explosion.
At some point Norman crosses paths with petty criminal, Jason Phillip Macendale, whom he hires to kill Kingpin in exchange for gadgets and wealth, thus creating the "Hobgoblin". his reasoning being that Fisk is applying pressure to both Norman and Oscorp, his business. However, due to Peter Parker's interruption, and a run-in with him as Spider-Man, he fails and Osborn fires him. Later, the Kingpin fires Osborn for double-crossing him in order to get more weapons from him. Norman later attempts a hostile takeover of Adrian Toomes’s company, Toomes Aerodynamics which puts him at odds with Vulture.
In season three, an explosion of chemicals at Oscorp create a dual persona for Osborn, the Green Goblin who seeks revenge on the board members who wronged Norman, as well as Mary Jane Watson for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, and takes them to his underwater lair. However, Spider-Man tracks him down and saves everyone. After he engages in a fight with the Goblin, the serum wears off and Osborn is left with no memory of his actions as the Goblin. The next day, Osborn announces he will no longer be manufacturing weapons. In limbo, Dr. Ohn's time dilation accelerator device is randomly creating portals; escaping through one where it is picked up by an old man looking to make some money at a pawn shop.
At some point, Fisk attends a party at Norman's house and presses him for the true name of the Hobgoblin, due to Hobgoblin posing a threat to him earlier. When Norman refuses to talk, the Kingpin then threatens to hurt Harry which prompts Norman to agree to meet with him. In the bathroom of Oscorp, Norman's reflection changes into the Green Goblin and the two begin a conversation. The Green Goblin convinces Norman that people like the Kingpin and Spider-Man are trying to hurt him and Harry. Norman hesitates but is powerless against the Green Goblin's control.
After the Green Goblin's attempts at the lives of Hobgoblin and his fiance, Felicia Hardy are met in vain, he uses Hobgoblin's Time Dilation Accelerator with little energy it has to return to Oscorp. To get revenge on the Kingpin, the Hobgoblin, and especially Spider-Man, Osborn makes his own modifications to the device although he cannot guarantee its stability. However, the Green Goblin doesn't care and promises to crush Spider-Man and Kingpin. Osborn is worried because Spider-Man knows the truth about his existence but the Goblin goes off through a portal to make Spider-Man suffer for that.
After the Goblin discovers Spider-Man's identity as Peter Parker, Norman recognizes him as his son's best friend but the Goblin convinces Norman that Peter must have been using Harry to get to him, and devises a plan to invite Peter over for a dinner party so he can expose his secret. Once Peter arrives and catches wind of this, he needs a distraction so he throws some of his web cartridges into the fireplace. Norman is about to tell them all when the fireplace explodes and the place is filled with smoke. Everyone runs out to the front lawn but Peter goes back in under the disguise of saving Norman. In the house, the Green Goblin confronts Peter for pestering him as Spider-Man, while Norman confronts him for hurting his son as Peter.
After the two fight and the Goblin tries to take Aunt May's life, he takes Mary Jane to the top of George Washington Bridge. Spider-Man tries to reason with Norman but Green Goblin is in control. Spider-Man then reminds him that he's about to hurt the only people Harry cares about. Norman briefly gains control, but Spider-Man attacks him while distracted and knocks away the time-dilation device. Spider-Man and Green Goblin fall over the side onto one of the suspension ropes. Norman calls for help and Spider-Man saves him, but the Green Goblin regains control and attacks Spider-Man. Mary Jane wakes up and trips over the side and Spider-Man quickly comes to her rescue. Green Goblin uses his remote control for his glider to attack the two. The glider launches a missile and cracks the tower, making it unstable and the time dilation device falls over the side, opening a portal. Mary Jane also falls off the tower. Spider-Man leaps to the side to save her but his webs hit nothing. Back on his glider, Green Goblin grabs the time-dilation device.
Spider-Man snags a web line onto the Goblin's glider and begins climbing. Green Goblin tries to knock him off but his weaponry is damaged and Spider-Man is too fast. The glider is losing fuel and going down. Spider-Man vows to take Green Goblin down even if he has to go down too. Green Goblin tries to use the time dilation device but it too is not working. Green Goblin lands and tries to fix the device. Spider-Man swings down yelling "You'll pay, Osborn!" Green Goblin activates the device but there is a gravitational imbalance and the portal begins sucking everything in sight. Green Goblin tries to run away but Spider-Man lands and stops him. Green Goblin almost falls into the portal. Spider-Man however is not affected because he can stick to the ground thanks to his powers. After Green Goblin's attempts at using his glider to attack Spider-Man fails, the glider knocks him into the portal.
It is later revealed that the Green Goblin has completely taken over Norman's psyche for good.
