Dunkin Sawyer is the secondary antagonist from the 1974 film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and a minor character in its prequel Leatherface.

He is a member of the cannibalistic Sawyer Family. He is the son of Drayton Sawyer and the older brother of Jedidiah "Leatherface" Sawyer.

He was portrayed by Edwin Neal, who also voiced Two-Face and Killer Croc in DC Universe Online.

Biography[]

Leatherface[]

Dunkin is first seen in the beginning of the film as a young child, happily celebrating the birthday of Jedidiah. He is clapping and squealing out of excitement.

He is later seen towards the end as a young adult, helping Drayton dispose of some meat by feeding it to some pigs.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (Video game)[]

Dunkin appears as one of the playable villains in the multiplayer game alongside Drayton and Leatherface. His special ability is "Trap", allowing him to place up to three traps made out of bone around the map. These will ensnare any victim unfortunate enough to step onto them and notify the family if this happens. Dunkin is also a lot more nimble than his siblings, being the only killer who can follow victims through gaps and crawl spaces in the walls. This combined with his higher than average stamina makes him an ideal pursuer, though his damage output is fairly low to compensate.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Film)[]

He first appears in the film hitchhiking home and is picked up by Sally, Franklin, Pam, Jerry, and Kirk.

While in their van, Dunkin shows them horrific picture of animals he slaughtered. Then cuts his hand with Franklin's knife and takes his picture with a camera and tried to sell it to him. When Franklin refuses to buy the picture, Dunkin blows it up with gunpowder, and then slices Franklin's arm with a straight razor. He is thrown out of the van, but manages to mark a pattern on it with the blood before the four can speed away.

He next appears much later after all of the four but Sally have been killed by Leatherface. He helps Drayton tie up the kidnapped Sally and helps Grandpa Sawyer drink some blood from her finger. While the family eats dinner with Sally tied to an armchair with real arms, she tries to convince Drayton to stop the others. Dunkin reacts to this by revealing his contempt for Drayton, revealing that Dunkin and Leatherface do all the killing and grave robbing for meat, and that Drayton is just a cook. After dinner, Dunkin suggests that they let Grandpa do Sally in. They untie her, and Dunkin holds her over a large metal tub to catch the blood. Grandpa is given a sledgehammer to kill Sally with, but keeps missing. Dunkin becomes impatient and tries to grab the hammer, releasing his grip on Sally, who manages to shake herself loose and run out of the house. Dunkin chases her into the nearby road, only to be run over by an eighteen-wheeler truck.

Texas Chainsaw 3D[]

Dunkin's corpse is brought back to the house after the events of the first film, but is burned once the vigilantes set it on fire.

Trivia[]

  • According to Nubbins' actor Edwin Neal, the conditions on the set of the original film were so awful, he said it was worse than his time serving in the Vietnam War in 1969.
  • Edwin Neal has said that he based his performance in the original film on an eccentric but unspecified relative of his.
  • In the script for the first film, he was described as having a bony face, short carrot-colored curly hair, jeans tucked into old combat boots, a pouch and a large discolored mark on his face, his face and arms were also covered with scabs and sores. He was also said to be around 25 years old.
  • His death in the original script was much gorier than the film. His jaw was nearly ripped off from his head and his eyes were wide open. This was never seen in the film however.
  • His name was never mentioned in the 1974 film. In Texas Chainsaw 3D, the Sawyer files mention a person of the family named Dunkin, considering this name was next to Drayton and Jed's, it can be presumed that this is Hitchhiker's name as the three were the main antagonists of the first film.
