Number Five is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Viktor Hargreeves) of the superhero televison series The Umbrella Academy, an adaptation of the comic series of the same name.
He is a member of the Umbrella Academy, who at a young age used his time travel abilities to jump forward in time, where he found himself stuck in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and eventually manages to travel back to the present day in order to warn his siblings about the oncoming end of the world. Despite generally being a heroic character, he served as an assassin for the Temps Commission for several years and is shown to still be a sadistic killer in the present day.
He was portrayed by Aiden Gallagher.
Personality[]
Five is a complex individual, as a child he was shown to be relatively cold and emotionless compared to his siblings, such as when the others were recieving tattoos and were upset over the pain, but Five seemed unbothered by the process. He also was the only one who openly defied Reginald Hargreeves, jumping through time despite being told not to do so. After surviving in the apocalypse for many years his sanity deteriorated, although he never gave up hope even after joining the Commission. Due to his time as an assassin, he has a very sadistic personality, while he doesn't have any desire to harm innocent people after quitting the Commission, he was still sadistic while in combat and will threaten people who do anything that goes against his goal of stopping the apocalypse. He will often threaten his siblings, although it's unclear whether he actually would go through with it or is just being a jerk, especially since when he gets drunk he admits to loving all of them, showing that a lot of his sadism is a front in order to intimidate people.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Space-Time Manipulation:
- Teleportation: Five can jump through space instantly, which he often uses to evade people in combat and can successfully dodge bullets if he has enough time to react. He can take physical objects and other living people with him when he teleports, as he teleported both himself and Diego when they were evading members of the Commission. There are limits to this ability, as repeated jumps will exhaust him.
- Chronokinesis: Five has the ability to travel through time, although he struggles to control it and is often significantly more accurate whenever he goes forward in time rather than going back, as seen when he jumped to the end of the world but was unable to travel back, or when he accidentally stranded his siblings across the 1960s but was able to jump forward to 2019 without issue. He eventually figures out that he can reverse time accurately up to a couple of minutes, which he uses to defeat the Handler.
- Martial Arts/Gunmanship: Five was an exceptional combatant and assassin while a member of the Temps Commission, considered to be the very best among them until he quit. Even after accidentally rewinding himself into the body of a teenager, he was still an effective martial artist and in combination with his teleportation could take down fully grown adults with ease.

Trivia[]
- The reason for Five not having a name like his siblings is never explained, but in season four he is seen entering a diner run by alternate versions of himself, with the name "Max" being seen. This suggests that at least one version of Five did take the name Max and that the main version of Five either rejected it or got stuck in the future before the name was ever given to him.
