Nyx is a major antagonist in the Percy Jackon franchise by Rick Riordan. She serves as a minor antagonist in The House of Hades and the main antagonist of The Sun and the Star. She is also an overarching antagonist of the whole franchise as many of the villains throughout the series are her children. She is a protogenos or primordial deity, the goddess of night, and the mother of monsters.

Early Life[]
Nyx was born from Chaos, the original deity in Greco-Roman mythology. Not much is known about the role she played throughout history. She was mother of many deities and monsters Her offspring, such as Echidna, Manticore, and Nemesis, would terrorize the world and would serve as major antagonists throughout the series.
Heroes of Olympus[]
Nico Di Angelo entered Tartarus in order to find out how Gaea was opening The Doors of Death. Nico stumbled upon Nyx's Mansion of Night. Nyx captured Nico and saw that he had a lot of darkness in him. Otis and Ephialtes came and asked if they could take Nico to use as a Hostage. Nyx agreed in order to respect her primordial sister Gaea.
Percy and Annabeth fell into Tartarus. They ended up stumbling across Nyx. Nyx wanted to kill them. However, Percy and Annabeth tricked her by pretending to be tourists. They insulted her ego by pretending they weren't interested in her, and then tricked her children into turning upon each other. Percy and Annabeth were able to escape through the Mansion of Night.
The Sun and the Star[]
After the Titan Iapetus, also known as Bob, sacrificed himself to save Percy and Annabeth, he regenerated in Tartarus. Nyx was furious that he let go of his darkness and redeemed himself. She captured him and tortured him in order to force him to revert to being an evil Titan. She also used him as bait in order to lure Nico to Tartarus so she could force him to give into darkness as well. Not realizing that Percy and Annabeth had been messing with her, she also created tourist pamphlets in an attempt to lure Nico into Tartarus.
She sent her son Epiales, the god of nightmares, to confront Nico at the entrance to the Underworld in order to make him give into darkness. However, Nico, along with his boyfriend Will Solace, defeated Epiales. The two of them managed to make it into Tartarus to try and save Bob.
Nico and Will contfronted Nyx. Nyx tried to bring Nico into despair by bringing forth Cacodemons, physical embodiments of Nico's dark past. However, Nico refused to give in and instead he freed the Cacodemons. Nico, Will, and Bob battled against Nyx and her children. Nyx's daughter Nemesis set The Mansion of Night on Fire. Nyx's children, including Hypnos and Epiales, turned against their mother, allowing Nico, Will, and Bob to escape. Nyx perused them and went into the River Acheron, Because Nyx was stuck in her darkness, she was unable to fight the pin that came from the river.
