Naimi-Selari-Nykantia, better known as Nyx, is a supporting character in the Netflix animated fantasy series The Dragon Prince.

She is a con artist who tricks Rayla and Callum, with the goal to capture Azymondias and give him to his mother Zubeia to get some price in return. After she was saved by Rayla, Nyx becomes a minor ally, in which she helps Callum, Rayla, and Azymondias in reaching the Storm Spire.

Two years later, Nyx joined the ship The Ruthless and once again met Rayla and Callum and their friends, helping them reach the Sea of the Castout.

She is voiced by Rhona Rees.

Physical appearance[]

Nyx is a young female Skywing Elf with amethyst-wisteria skin with white dashed markings on her upper face and large garnet-colored wings coming out of her large dorsal fin. She has short lips but a large mouth, thick eyebrows, a small nose, her left eye is blue while her right eye is gold, she has pointed ears with detached pointed lobes, tousled turquoise blue hair with silver tips and various shades of black on the top and back, as well as two gray horns twisted into a hook. Build-wise, Nyx is quite tall, a bit taller than Rayla, but has a slim frame and wide thighs.

Nyx wears a white and light blue shirt, a thin dark brown jacket with white sleeves, braided leather armbands, gray leggings with light blue stripes, and high, thigh-high heelless boots. Two years later, Nyx is wearing the exact same clothes.

Personality[]

Nyx is particularly deceitful and opportunistic, though intelligent, jumping at any opportunity to advance her interests, even to the point of almost crossing the moral line. She is also very talkative and chatty, often making long sentences, accompanied by an eccentric, carefree, and happy-go-lucky nature. Her deceptive nature makes her an expert in the art of lying and deception, managing to fool even the most suspicious. Despite her flaws, Nyx proves to have a good heart, even if she has trouble showing it well.

Background[]

Nyx was a successful con artist before the events of her first appearance, she was also one of the few skywing elves to be naturaly born with wings. After Ethari sent a message via a shadowhawk to Zubeia to inform her that her son Azymondias was still alive through a shadowhawk, Nyx killed it and stole the message, taking its information to her advantage.

Book Three: Sun[]

Nyx would then go to Rayla and Callum and introduce herself, lying that she was sent by Zubeia so they could give Azymondias. Rayla, however, didn't trust her, so she threatened her and told her to leave, but Nyx told them that the Dragon Queen was dying and that they would waste a week getting through the Midnight Desert, and she offered to give them a ride where they would only spend two days, which they accepted.

Nyx would then bring them to her giant ambler, where they would travel for the rest of the day until they to an oasis at night that had a barrier that protected it from Soul Fangs, which were snakes that turned anyone that was bitten by them into living husks.

After Callum and Rayla went to talk to each other after Rayla started crying, Nyx took that opportunity to kidnap Azymondias and bring him to his mother to get some treasure in return. Rayla and Callum then find out about this and catch Nyx's ambler, and understanding that she was trapped, Nyx fell off the ambler and used her wings to try to fly away.

However, Azymondias knocks her out, causing her to get stuck in sand, with Soul Fangs appearing. After this, Nyx begged Rayla to help her, with Rayla reluctantly decidng to save her, and they got back to her ambler, with Nyx asking if they saved her because she was charming and that they couldn't dislike her because of it, Callum then told her that it was because Rayla was selfless, causing them Rayla to kiss Callum.

The next day, Nyx waked Callum and Rayla, calling them love bugs, but she imediatly backs away after Azymondias starts to throw sparks of lightning off his body. Nyx then brought them off the Midnight Desert, and warned them that the wind can be really tough in the Storm Spire before thanking them for saving her life.

Book Five: Ocean[]

Two years later, Nyx would make a bet with Villads for his ship in a dice game, with Nyx winning.

After getting the Ruthless, Nyx still allowed Villads to use it, but wanted Villads to refer to her as the "comodore" of the Ruthless. She and Villads would later encounter Team Zym again, helping them get to the Sea of the Castout so they can stop Aaravos from being freed from his prison and putting the world in danger. However, because of Team Zym freeing three baby glow toads from the leader of Scumport Finnegrin, the vengeful pirate would come after them.

While Team Zym made several attempts to escape from Finnegrin and his ship, they would eventually be captured by him. During this, Nyx made a deal with Finnegrin, that if she told him what Team Zym was looking for in the Sea of the Castout, Finnegrin would free her, which worked since Nyx lied that Team Zym was looking for a treasure. After Finnegrin was killed and Team Zym was freed, she went to talk to them, with Rayla and Villads being furious with her for leaving them and seemingly betraying the crew to save herself, only for her to reveal that she brought them to the Sea of the Castout through her lies, with Team Zym later getting the pearl where Aaravos was imprisoned in because of this.

Book Seven: Dark[]

Some time after the defeat of Aaravos, humans, elves and dragons are gathered by Team Zym, Nyx being among them. They announce the construction not of a border but of a new city where all can coexist, to which Nyx curiously asks who will run the place, to which it is answered that everyone will be free to act as they wish, as well as to give their opinion on the decisions to be made. The city is then named Evrkynd.

The name Nyx is based on the Greek personification of the night called the same name.
Nyx possesses Heterochromia, as she has eyes with different collors.
As a Skywing Elve, Nyx is one of the few of her species to possess wings, a trait only possible for one in ten elves of her species.
She was born on December 4th.
