Odadiah Stane, also known as Rook, is a major antagonist in the What If...? episode What If... The Red Guardian Stopped the Winter Soldier.

He is an alternate reality version of Iron Monger who made a deal with Hydra to have Howard and Maria Stark assassinated. However, in this timeline, his plan failed thanks to the interference of the Red Guardian and the Winter Soldier.

He was voiced by Kiff VandenHeuvel.

History[]

Under the alias of Rook, Obadiah sold information on Howard Stark's latest project to Hydra in exchange for them sending the Winter Soldier to kill Howard, as well as his wife Maria. However, in this timeline, a deeply envious Red Guardian prevented the Winter Soldier from finishing the job, and the Starks were left critically injured, but alive.

At his hotel in Las Vegas, Obadiah was approached by the Winter Soldier and the Red Guardian, who wanted answers about the assassination attempt. Obadiah picked up a gun and attempted to shoot the pair, but failed. Winter Soldier then pushed him out the window, killing him.

Appearance[]

As the episode takes place over 15 years before the first Iron Man movie, Obadiah is quite younger. Rather than a thin and grey, his beard and moustache are now scruffy and dark brown; he is still bald however. For his attire, rather than his typical business suit, he wears a simple red bath robe, as his only physical appearance was at a hotel.
