Ocean-Master is a major antagonist of the Young Justice television series and its 2011 comic series. He was the brother to Aquaman who acted like a supportive and caring individual but in truth plotted to take the throne of Atlantis from his brother. He was an official member of The Light until he betrayed the organization which led to his death by Lady Shiva. He was brought back one last time to help The Light in their agenda to claim the throne of Atlantis which led to his demise by the Lords of Order.
He was voiced by Roger Craig Smith, who also voiced Deidara from the Naruto franchise and Steam Smythe from the Ben 10 reboot series.
Biography[]
Orm had been envious of his brother and wanted the throne of Atlantis to himself for a long time. He would act like a caring and compassionate individual who cared about his brother, sister-in-law, and Atlantis, but plotted to take over the country for himself. He earned an infamous reputation for going against Aquaman and terrorizing Atlantis. Despite receiving such a reputation, Aquaman, Kaldur'ahm, and everyone in Atlantis is unaware that the Ocean-Master was Orm. The Ocean-Master joined The Light, a secret society comprised of supervillains that is led by Vandal Savage. While being a member of the group, Ocean-Master tasks Black Manta to pull off a large scale attack on Atlantis which led to a couple buildings being destroyed and multiple people dying. Black Manta was after a creature. Black Manta reported the result of his mission to The Light to which Orm complimented him on his efforts.
Years later, Ocean-Master appears and sets himself as the leader of a terrorist group called Purists. He used the group to go after aquatic life-forms who did not bear a human resemblance and was assisting them in terrorizing the people of Atlantis. He appears and attacks Queen Mera, by using his trident to absorb life-energy from her while was pregnant with the child of Aquaman. She informed Ocean-Master that she is pregnant to which the latter expressed his lack of care while continuing to torture her by taking her life-energy. He revealed to Mera that he is using the Purists to further his own agenda and that when the war and fighting is over, he will rule over what is left of Atlantis. One of the Purists, Ronal, overheard the Ocean-Master. Ocean-Master was not worried about Ronal's anger. He got into a major fight with many people who tried to stop him. His efforts are thwarted by Aqualad, Superboy and Miss Martian. He managed to escape from them but reappear as the unsuspecting Orm to which no one at the moment realized was the Ocean-Master.
After the incident, Orm was discovered to be the Ocean-Master and was arrested and put in prison. Over time, the Ocean-Master felt resentment towards the individuals who had him placed in prison for six years.
After being released from prison, the Ocean-Master rented a house across the street from the superheroes and spied on them. Ocean-Master attempted to kill all the superheroes and their children at a family-friend play-date gathering. He was visibly frustrated that he was exposed and punished and wanted revenge against all of them. Lady Shiva confronted Ocean-Master and told her about his frustration but she killed him on behest of The Light for betraying the organization.
Despite his death, Orm's consciousness was stored and absorbed into the body of a clone of Arion by the help of Vandal Savage to continue The Light's agenda on Atlantis. Vandal Savage offers a way for Ocean-Master to claim the throne of Atlantis once again to which the latter was apologetic for betraying The Light. Ocean Master and Vandal Savage also prepared a clone to be used as a distraction to allow Ocean-Master in disguise of Arion to take the crown of Atlantis to become the king of Atlantis. As this plan was going underway, the clone of the Ocean-Master was eventually bested and imprisoned by the heroes while Ocean-Master pretended to be Arion to try and use his legacy as means to claim the throne of Atlantis. As there was a heavy debate over who should have the crown and the public trusting and liking Arion, eventually Arion is chosen as the man to wear the thrown of Atlantis. As Kaldur'ahm returns to Atlantis with the crown, Orm takes the crown for himself. As Aquaman realized that Arion was his brother Orm and warned him to not wear the crown, Ocean-Master scoffs at Aquaman. The Ocean-Master wore the crown which resulted in the Lords of Order killing Ocean-Master on the spot by disintegrating him in front of the spectators of Atlantis for attempting to use the power that Arion's crown held while also taking back all the power within the crown leaving it intact.
