Octoboss is a supporting antagonist in the Image Comics series Invincible, and its animated adaptation of the same name. He is a mutated member of the Squidmen species. He is known for his octopus-like appearance, immense strength, and amusing attempts to speak English.
Little is known about Octoboss’s origins. What sets him apart from the rest of the Squidmen is his unusual pink skin and his enormous size, far beyond that of a typical member of his species. At some point before the events of the series, he turned to a life of crime and gained notoriety as the villain known as Octoboss.
He is voiced by Fred Tatasciore.
Biography[]
Comic Book History[]
In the Invincible comics, Octoboss is introduced as a powerful antagonist who commands a group of aquatic humanoids known as the Squidmen. Originally a criminal from an unknown alien race, he was exiled alongside his followers and crash-landed on Earth. Seeking revenge and a way to return home, Octoboss led missions to steal resources—most notably plutonium.
He often clashed with Earth's heroes, particularly Invincible and Rex Splode. His most significant role in the comics was as a member of The Order, a supervillain team responsible for large-scale attacks, including a deadly incursion in Paris. Though not the most prominent villain in the series, his bizarre design and strange personality made him a fan-favorite side character.
Animated Series Appearance[]
In the Amazon Prime adaptation of Invincible, Octoboss appears in Season 2, Episode 7. Voiced by Fred Tatasciore, he is portrayed leading an operation to hijack a radioactive facility. He engages in a physical battle with Rex Splode and temporarily gains the upper hand. However, the arrival of Invincible tips the fight in the heroes’ favor.
Octoboss is portrayed with some comedic flair—particularly through his broken English and serious but clumsy demeanor—which contrasts with his intimidating physique and power.
Appearance[]
Octoboss resembles a humanoid octopus, much like others of his kind. He has red eyes, smooth pink skin, and no visible hair. Tentacles emerge from his arms, further emphasizing his aquatic nature. Unlike the usual dark cyan tone of the Squidmen, Octoboss’s pink coloration makes him visually distinct, as does his towering size. He wears metallic leg braces, likely to assist with movement, and he carries an arm-mounted energy cannon to enhance his combat capabilities.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Superhuman Strength: Octoboss can overpower multiple opponents and lift heavy objects effortlessly.
- Superhuman Durability: He can withstand powerful blows, gunfire, and explosions.
- Tentacle Arms: His tentacle-like limbs allow him to grapple and restrain enemies.
- Amphibious Biology: Capable of surviving underwater and on land.
