Mama to Mittens, remember our deal. Make this look good, and we'll forgive your recent lackluster performance in school.
~ Odalia talking to Amity via her necklace.
What he does with our products is none of our business. What is my business is keeping our family ahead of the rest! You're welcome, everyone! There you go, making that face. This is why I don't tell you things. With the Emperor's favor, we'll live like royalty in the new world, crowns and everything!
~ Odalia revealing her alliance with Emperor Belos.
I told you before, Collector, I could be much more use to you than being a... "Mamadalia". Maybe we can talk about... remaking the Boiling Isles into something bigger and better!
~ Odalia attempting to convince the Collector to remake the Boiling Isles in her image.

Odalia Blight is a major antagonist in the 2020 Disney Channel animated series The Owl House.

She is the abusive wife of Alador Blight, mother of Edric, Emira and Amity Blight (as well as the latter's arch-nemesis), and the CEO of Blight Industries. She is the primary reason behind Amity's behavior as an elitist jerk and shattering her friendship with Willow Park.

Unlike the other residents of the Boiling Isles, Odalia is aware of the true, genocidal nature of the Day of Unity, but supports it under the false belief that Emperor Belos will spare her and her family and reward them by making them lesser royalty. After the Collector takes over the Boiling Isles following Belos' initial defeat, she becomes his servant and "mom" in an attempt to manipulate him, only for her ideas to fall on deaf ears.

She was voiced by Rachel MacFarlane, who also voiced Eris in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, as well as Hayley Smith on American Dad!, which is also created by her older brother Seth MacFarlane.

Personality[]

This is too much, even for you.
~ Alador shows disgust at his wife over how irredeemable and unscrupulous she is.

The one defining trait of Odalia is her Social Darwinism; she is obsessed with always being on top, which was one of the main reasons she forced Amity to end her friendship with Willow. When she learns the truth of the Day of Unity, rather than being horrified, she instead assists Belos in carrying out the genocide of her own species under the false promise of her and her family becoming royalty in the new world. In addition, she is greedy, one instance being when she chides Amity for not focusing on one of her pitches.

Odalia is also a narcissist of the highest caliber; while she claims that she was looking out for the family's best interest by helping the Emperor, it is made clear that she was really only doing it for herself and tosses her own family away when they oppose her. She forces Amity to dye her hair green to resemble hers and appears to treat her children as her property that she can control (for instance, having Amity study feverishly and having her test out her company's latest Abomiton). Upon learning that Amity was dating Luz, she immediately rejects it because of Luz's status of being a criminal and states she would find a replacement for her daughter.

Prior to the events of "Clouds on the Horizon", her relationship with her family was tense. In her debut episode, she seems to care about her husband Alador, whom she listens to when he reminded her that a Blight always upkept their end of the bargain. However, as later episodes show, this is far from the case. She has her husband perform back-breaking work under the threat of having their kids be put in the factory (heavily implying child labor). When Alador learns about the true purpose of the Day of Unity, he tries to convince her to help them stop the event from happening. He expresses nothing but disgust towards his wife when she frankly admits that she had already known and chose to withhold it from him. From there, Alador quits his job (and likely their marriage), to which Odalia coldly says she was looking for a more competent assistant anyway.

Odalia also displays several traits of a sociopath: she has a high sense of self-importance, lacks empathy, demonstrates a superficial charm whenever she is advertising her company's products, and uses threats whenever things don't go her way. She has absolutely no qualm with trying to kill Luz with an Abomiton and appears to be unable to understand that her family rejected her offer of becoming royalty because they saw the plan as morally wrong. In a flashback to "Young Blood, Old Souls," Odalia can be seen in the stands watching the Emperor's Coven members harass Eda when she transformed into the Owl Beast with a smile on her face, suggesting that she was always deeply sociopathic and sadistic.

With that being said, Odalia seemed to have been on good terms with Alador and Darius when they were both attending Hexside years ago, and she is also featured in one of Eda's memories, implying that they were friends, or at least on good terms at some point. It is currently unknown what soured Odalia into becoming the narcissistic matriarch she is now.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is known about Odalia's past. What is known is that she was once an Oracle student at Hexside along with Eda and Lilith Clawthorne, and her future husband Alador. Sometime after Lilith cursed Eda, Odalia married Alador, founded Blight Industries, and became the mother of three children: Emira, Edric, and Amity Blight.

Season 1[]

"Understanding Willow"[]

She, alongside her husband Alador, forced Amity to end her friendship with Willow due to wanting to preserve their reputation as being "superior." When Amity refuses, Odalia threatens to prevent Willow from attending Hexside leading to Amity having to cut her ties with her childhood friend to protect her. She and Alador then arrange for Amity to befriend Boscha and the others due to the idea that they could mold her into being crueler and more ambitious.

Unbeknownst to her, Amity, thanks to Luz's intervention, was able to make amends with Willow.

Season 2[]

"Escaping Expulsion"[]

Odalia and Alador are holding a private Blight Industries demonstration of a security Abomiton Soldier for investors and uses her daughter Amity to display its combat capabilities, but when Amity's photo of Grom night falls out of her pocket, she instantly destroys the abomination, causing the attendance to leave as sales for the Abomination plummet rapidly.

Odalia figures that Amity's friends are a distraction, and the next day, she forces Principal Bump to expel Luz, Willow and Gus from Hexside, as Amity watched regretfully. Luz confronts them as they leave, and Odalia offers Luz a deal to get them back in school: that she takes Amity's place in another showcase of Blight Industries' new weapons.

Luz agrees and takes a battering from the weapon demonstrations, struggling to resist with her glyphs, until a new Abomiton 2.0 model attacks her, which Odalia intends to have Luz completely eliminated with. However, Amity interferes, finally standing up to her parents and demanding they allow her friends back into school or else she will destroy the Abomination. Odalia falsely agrees, secretly intended to rescind the deal, but Alador reminds her that Blights always uphold their end of the bargain. Luz and Amity then feign defeat, allowing sales to go back up.

After this, Alador and Odalia are visited by the Golden Guard, They kneel before the Emperor's emissary, who informs them that their weaponized products and efforts will now be sold exclusively to Belos, before warning them he does not take kindly to citizens producing a private army.

"Through The Looking Glass Ruins"[]

Odalia is mentioned when Amity styles and dyes her hair, revealing she dyes it green because her mother wanted her children "color coordinated", with Emira telling her "Mom will freak" when she sees it.

"Reaching Out"[]

Odalia briefly appears in a photo of a young Alador winning the Bonesborough Brawl years ago. When Amity was old enough to enter, she arranged her to try out for the Emperor's Coven on the same day. Near the end of the episode, it was revealed Amity never wanted to join the coven, it was Odalia's dream, not hers. It is also mentioned she is still trying to dye Amity's hair green.

"Clouds On the Horizon"[]

Odalia intimidates Alador by threatening to have their children work in the factory and ultimately reveals that she already knew that the Day of Unity was meant to kill all witchkind through the Draining Spell.

However, rather than being appalled by it, Odalia instead was assisting the emperor in making the event happen under the belief that she and her family would be spared of the mass genocide, and they would rule as lesser royalty under Belos' new world order. This, of course, gives a lack of foresight that her family would also be in danger if she even cared.

When Alador finally stands up to her and tries to stop her, Odalia scoffs and leaves saying that she needed to find a more compliant business partner anyway. She also learns that Amity was dating Luz expressing disgust due to Luz's status as a criminal. Amity also states she would never talk to her again, effectively disowning her.

"King's Tide"[]

Although Odalia doesn't appear physically in the episode, she is briefly mentioned by Amity when Coven Guards confront them in the ship she and her friends stole, indicating she called them. She also appears briefly as a teenager in Eda's vision before beginning the plan to stop the draining spell, implying they used to be friends before Eda was cursed.

Season 3[]

"For the Future" and "Watching and Dreaming"[]

Making a deal with that child was a waste of time! I wish someone would see my potential.
~ Odalia lamenting her current situation as the Collector's servant.

After the Collector stops the Draining Spell and takes over the Boiling Isles, Odalia manages to weasel her way into working inside his archives as his servant and "mom". She keeps trying to convince him to remake the Boiling Isles into something "bigger and better", but her idea is ignored, and she is forced to place the transformed inhabitants of the Boiling Isles in the collection room. As she is dragging them back, King notices she has a transformed Hooty and asks for him.

Later, she notices the transformed Coven Heads and decides to use Raine Whispers to help her. She voices her frustration that making a deal with the Collector was a waste of time and wishes someone would see her potential. At that moment, Emperor Belos appears behind her, stating someone was useful. Odalia believes he was referring to her, but the witch hunter instead claims he was talking about Raine and possesses their body, much to Odalia's shock. She is later seen scowling when Alador and Amity reunite in "Watching and Dreaming" rather than greeting the two.

She isn't seen in any of the epilogue scenes, so her ultimate fate is unknown. However, it is clear that her family is thriving now that her abusive control over them is gone meaning that she was not easily forgiven for her betrayal. It should also be noted that she is not seen freely walking around much like Kikimora or any of the coven heads as well. During the timeskip, Alador divorced from her and took custody of the kids.

Quotes[]

I've got that little gremlin on the hook! She'll be a perfect test subject for our new product!
~ Odalia bragging to Alador about what she is going to do to Kikimora.
Kikimora: Odalia, is my ship ready?
Odalia: Just about. And I found two adorable little scoundrels trying to steal it! Don't worry, they'll just be grounded, with maximum security.
~ Odalia traps her own children and Luz in a shield.
Odalia: Over there. No, no, no, over there. Ugh, making a deal with that child was a waste of time! (sighs) I wish someone could see my potential.
Belos: Oh yes, I think you'll prove to be quite useful indeed.
Odalia: (nervously) Me?
Belos: No. (possesses Raine) YOU!
~ Odalia pathetically complaining about her fate and running into Belos, also her last words.
