Odell Leopold is the main antagonist of the 2025 A24 horror comedy film Death of a Unicorn.
He is the CEO of a large pharmaceutical company who wants to exploit the newly discovered unicorns for billions of dollars of profit as unicorn horn and blood can cure any ailments known to men.
He was portrayed by Roger E. Grant, who also played Allegiant General Pryde in Star Wars, The Great Intelligence in Doctor Who, Barkis Bittern in Corpse Bride, and Dr. Zandar Price in Logan.
Biography[]
Prior to the events of the film, Odell was a big game hunter who took down lions, elephants, and big apes. He is also the CEO of a large pharmaceutical firm.
One weekend, he invites his employer Elliot Kintner who works as his corporate lawyer and his daughter Ridley to his estate due to his terminal cancer, introducing them to his wife Belinda and son Shepard. During their drive, Elliot accidentally strikes a unicorn foal with his car, hiding its body in their rental car. When the foal awakens and tries to flee the vehicle, Odell has his assistant Shaw shoot it dead.
From the blood of the foal curing Ridley's acne and Elliot's eyesight, Odell becomes curious of its potential and orders his scientists headed by Dr. Song to conduct studies on the foal. They discover that mixing the unicorn's blood with extract from the horn has the ability to heal the body of any negative side-effects. As such, Odell uses himself as the test subject; within the day, he is back on his feet, the cancer seemingly gone from his body. Seeing this as a chance to achieve immortality, great wealth and fame, the Leopolds plan to abuse the formula as universal cure for pharmaceutical profits and orders the unicorn to be transferred to the labs for further experimentation. Dr. Song then reveals that protein sequence of the unicorn cannot be replicated by conventional science due to the magical nature of their biological makeup. This fact causes the Leopoid's greed to become sky-high as the unicorn formula now can be sold for millions of dollars per ounce as super rare universally miracle cure and hastily contacts rich clients throughout the world from nobles, billionaires to statesmen for purchase.
However, that night, the estate is attacked by a larger unicorn, the foal's parent, that kills Dr. Song and several guards, before fleeing into the woods when the other guards shoot at it. Believing that he can make more extract by hunting down the adult, Odell suits up with his remaining guards to hunt down the adult by following its blood trail, forcing Elliot to tag along. They confront the adult resting its injuries, only to be ambushed by its mate. Both unicorns attack the group, leaving only Elliot and Odell retreating back to the estate.
Both unicorns ambush Odell, preventing him from escaping into the estate. Odell tries to reason with the unicorns, offering to give back the foal in exchange for his life. At first the unicorns agree to this, with the stallion leaning down to let Odell touch his horn. However, seeing that his heart wasn't pure, the stallion bucks upwards and impales Odell straight through the head with his horn, killing him instantly.
