Odin AKA Ryūto Asamiya is the founder of Ragnarök and the main antagonist of the first half of History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi. He is Kenichi's childhood friend and rival, and the disciple of Isshinsai Ogata. He was the former leader of Ragnarök, holding the rank of the First Fist, until his defeat by Kenichi. After his defeat and being crippled by using a dangerous technique, he joined Yomi until he could recover. Once healed, he left Yomi and worked alongside Kenichi and the Shinpaku Alliance to defeat Yami and Ogata for using him to experiment the dangerous technique that crippled him.

Biography[]

During his childhood, Ryūto was best friends with Kenichi Shirahama. One day, Ryūto won a cat badge from a vending machine and since he didn't want it, he gave it to Kenichi, who ended up trading it for a yin-yang badge with Miu. Later, they would witness Miu singlehandedly defeat some robbers and are amazed by her skill. However, while Kenichi was inspired by Miu protecting people, Ryūto was inspired by her power and skill. When one the robbers tried to attack Miu from behind, Kenichi alerted her by blowing a whistle but passed out from shock. After defeating the last robber, Miu mistook Ryūto for the one who blew the whistle and thanked him. Guilty about getting the credit and wanting the badge that belonged to Miu, Ryūto tried to take the yin-yang badge back from Kenichi, leading to them getting into a fight. Kenichi ended up winning the fight, but he tried to give the official victory to Ryūto. However, his attempted kindness deeply wounded Ryūto's pride, creating a deep resentment. Ryūto spent the entire night trying to get a new yin-yang bade from the machine, but when he finally got a new badge, he realized it wasn't the badge he really wanted, it was the victory that came with it. He would keep the second badge as a reminder of his defeat and vowed to win his rematch with Kenichi when they next meet. Kenichi would soon move to a new town, and while he was leaving, Ryūto made a promise to him to become stronger and fight for the badge again, but Kenichi couldn't hear him over the noise of his father's car.

As he grew older, Ryūto would study multiple martial arts and participate in matches. During one match, he was disqualified from a match for attacking a downed opponent. Afterward, while wondering how he could have lost when his opponent was the one who was knocked down, he witnessed Isshinsai Ogata defeat and kill two armed opponents. Seeing Ogata's skill and hearing of his plan to restore the martials arts to the way before killing was forbidden, Ryūto became his disciple.

From his master, Ryūto learned of Yami and its subgroup Yomi as well as the many martial arts groups his master has created. Ogata convinces Ryūto to create his own group, leading him to form a gang called Ragnarök with the intention of having it rival and eventually replace Yomi, taking up the alias Odin. His first recruit was Shōgo Kitsukawa, a street fighter who was undefeated until Ryūto brutally defeated him. The next recruit was Kaname Kugatachi, and the three would become the Three of Cards, the founding members of Ragnarök. The organization would soon gather countless gang members to join them and establishing the top fighters as the Eight Deadly Fists, with the position of the Eighth Fist yet to be filled. During this time, he would also encounter Rimi Kokorone battling some members from one of Ogata's groups called Titan, and saving her from them. He praises her strength and unknowingly gains her affections.

When Kisara Nanjō is inducted as the Eighth Fist, all of the Fists are gathered to fight a gang of 50. Odin orders Kisara, the Sixth Fist Hermit, and the Fourth Loki to defeat the gang and they do so with ease. Soon after, Ragnarök begins meeting opposition in the form of Kenichi Shirahama and another gang called the Shinpaku Alliance, leading the defeat of Kisara, who is put on suspension, and the Fifth Fist Siegfried, who leaves the gang. Sometime after Siegfried's defeat, Odin holds a meeting with all of the fists except for Hermit, who disappeared after his attack on Kenichi ended in a draw. During the meeting, Odin lifts Kisara's suspension and welcomes Hermit back into the fold when he returns from training to defeat Kenichi. He wonders if he will get his chance to settle his history with Kenichi.

The next battle with Kenichi starts when Loki kidnaps Kenichi's sister Honoka and blackmails Hermit into working under him. After Hermit turns on Loki when he is unable to stand using Honoka as a hostage, Odin interferes with the battle before Loki can keep fighting Kenichi and Hermit. He punishes Loki for lying about having Ogata's authority to manipulate Hermit by breaking his goggles and humiliating him. He also offers Hermit a chance to stay with Ragnarök, but the latter rejects his offer and quits the organization. Odin greets Kenichi familiarly, much to the latter's confusion, and leaves with Loki after discerning that his old friend doesn't recognize or remember him. Afterward, Kenichi goes on to defeat the seventh fist Thor, who quits Ragnarök as well and is punished by being beaten by the remaining Fists. Furthermore, Kisara also leaves Ragnarök and eventually joins the Shinpaku Alliance alongside Siegfried. Ragnarök's continued defeats and his humiliation at Odin's hands, leads Loki to begin conspiring to replace him with the Second Fist Berserker.

Odin encounters Kenichi again when he and Miu visit his old neighborhood. Kenichi is wary of Odin, but he insists he only came to talk and reveals his identity as Ryūto. The two reminisce about their childhood and first encounters with Miu that set them on the paths towards martial arts. However, Odin refuses to end the war between Ragnarök and the Shinpaku Alliance and challenges Kenichi to a fight to fulfil the promise of fighting for the badge. Although Kenichi briefly holds his own, Odin easily defeats Kenichi when he uses his Seikūken technique, which gives him absolute control over the area in his reach. Odin admits that Kenichi he might have won if he had kept the element of surprise and had the killing intent needed to break through his Seikūken. Having finally obtained his victory, Odin takes Kenichi's badge and scorns him by giving him the damaged second badge as a loser's prize.

With his victory over Kenichi, Odin initiates the final battle against the Shinpaku Alliance. He sends Berserker and the Third Fist Freya to defeat the Shinpaku Alliance. Though Berserker defeats most of the alliance on his own, Freya is defeated by Kisara and leaves the organization, but is she too injured to join the rest of the battle. Odin leads the hunt for the alliance's leader, Niijima, and corners him in an abandoned warehouse. Thor and Hermit arrive on the side of the alliance and fight to buy time for Kenichi, who had left to undergo special training, to return. Before any fighting can break out, Loki initiates his coup to replace Odin with Berserk and take over Ragnarök with a new Eight Deadly Fists. However, Odin knew of Loki's scheme and warned Berserker beforehand, giving the Second Fist the chance to defeat Loki and his new fighters singlehandedly. Furious at having his chance to take revenge of Loki stolen, Hermit challenges Berserker and Thor confronts Odin. Odin easily defeats Thor by using an attack that does internal damage and threatens to kill him when he refuses to give up. Before Odin can make good on his threats, Kenichi is dropped in the middle of the battle by the Elder and challenges him. Having already beaten Kenichi, Odin has no interest in fighting him again and sends Berserker to defeat him and Hermit. After Hermit battles Berserker on his own and eventually manages to defeat him, Odin knocks out Berserker and proceeds to battle Kenichi.

Thanks to his special training with the Elder, Kenichi is able to match Odin's Seikuken with his own and Ogata himself observes the match alongside the masters of Ryōzanpaku. Odin tries to distract Kenichi by ordering his remaining henchman attack the Shinpaku Alliance, but his strategy is thwarted when Siegfried and the rest of the alliance return to fight despite being injured. Free from worrying about his friends, Kenichi resumes his fight against Odin and their battle moves to the top of the warehouse. Odin decides to stop holding back and removes his glasses to utilize a technique called the inner eye which allows him to read Kenichi's movements and patterns to predict his attacks, along with the Gungnir technique which has flawless accuracy. Unable to be hit and unable to be blocked, Odin gets the advantage and even Kenichi's strongest technique Mubyōshi fails, though Odin admits the attack would have broken his bones had he not blocked it. However, Kenichi overcomes his inner eye by switching between the patterns and personas of his masters, leaving Odin unable to read his movements anymore. With Odin unable to predict Kenichi anymore, he is overpowered and Kenichi lands a powerful jujitsu throw that sends Odin flying. Odin lands on a piece of sharp piece of metal that stabs his arm, but he kicks Kenichi away when he tries to help. Outraged that he is unable to defeat Kenichi, Odin unleashes a desperate ploy by combining Sei and Dou energy, giving him incredible power. He uses his increased strength to pummel Kenichi and reveals that he holds such a grudge against Kenichi because he gave him the official win in their first fight as children. Furious that everything Odin did was just for the sake of winning, Kenichi wills himself to keep fighting and faces Odin to save him from going down the path of a murderer. Kenichi holds his ground against Odin despite his increased strength and as the fight goes on, Odin's body begins breaking apart from combining Sei and Dou, leaving him open to be defeated by one last punch from Kenichi.

However, the roof of the warehouse they were fighting on collapses due to a previously set fire igniting some oil barrels. Kenichi avoids getting caught in the blast, but Odin falls through the roof and is left dangling over the fire on a steel beam. Despite everything he's done, Kenichi tries to rescue Odin, still considering him his friend. This act causes Odin to concede defeat, and he return Kenichi's badge. Before the two can fall into the fire, Odin is rescued by Ogata, who used him to as an experiment to test the dangers of combining Sei and Dou, while Kenichi is saved by the Elder. Ogata warns Yami is coming and the Elder retorts that Ryōzanpaku shall raise Kenichi to be the strongest disciple in history to fight it. Ogata carries Odin away as the other masters contain the warehouse explosion.

Afterward, Odin would be crippled by the damage from combining Sei and Dou, having his hair turned white from the strain and losing the use of his legs. Despite being bound to a wheelchair, Odin would continue to become a member of Yomi.

Personality[]

Ryūto was originally a kind and cleaver child. When he first saw Miu defeat a band of robbers, he was in awe of her power, unlike Kenichi who admired her protecting the innocent. He also had a large amount of pride and a thirst for power. After Kenichi won their first fight, he obsessively spent the whole night at a vending machine to get a new badge but once he finally got a new badge, he realized that he what he really wanted was the victory that came with hit. After this realization, he became driven to achieve power, regardless of morality, believing winning was all that mattered. Even before being influenced by Ogata, he ruthlessly attacked a downed opponent in match and questioned how someone who was unconscious could be considered the winner, rejecting the fact he was disqualified for breaking the rules. After meeting Ogata and becoming his disciple, Ryūto became closer to following the path of Asura, becoming more ruthless and almost killing his opponents. His obsession for strength and victory reached its peaked when it pushed him to use a dangerous technique that would end up crippling him.

After being defeated and still being shown mercy by Kenichi, Ryūto abandons his darker traits and mellows out. He shows more concern for others that before and helps Kenichi on several occasions, rebuilding his friendship with his old friend.

Abilities[]

Mixed Martial Artist - As a disciple of Ogata, Odin was taught multiple martial arts along with ancient martial arts, giving him a unique style focused on his natural skills. His fighting style revolves around reading and predicting his opponent's movements and timing, allowing him to block all attacks with the Seikūken and land unavoidable strikes with his Gugnir. Odin's skill was great enough for him to found and lead Ragnarök and remain formidable even after being crippling and confined to a wheelchair.

Sei and Dou Ki - Odin can wield both Sei (internal energy) and Dou (external energy) ki to amplify his defensive and offensive ability. His greatest technique can combine the two energies to create an explosive increase in strength and ability. However, this technique is highly dangerous because forcefully combining the conflicting ki's can lead to critical stress that could inflicting crippling, permanent, or life-threatening damage to the user.
