O Child of Fury, Slaughtered in your prime, by brutish men bereft of spoken words... But barely won, their vict'ry. Weak and frail, they are. Not hunters, no, but prey... Go forth in rage! This time, you'll eat your fill!
~ Odio reincarnating as Odo.

Odo (spelt O-D-O in the Aeon Genesis translation) is the main antagonist of the prehistoric chapter of Live A Live for the SNES and its remake for the Nintendo Switch. It's the last living Tyrannosaurus rex on Earth, revered as a deity by the Kuu Tribe who offer it human sacrifices (therefore making it indirectly responsible for all crimes committed by the tribe), and its latest sacrifice being an innocent girl named Beru, who ended up becoming Pogo's love interest.

In truth, it is one of the many incarnations of Odio, the Lord of Dark, whose hatred brought many villains over the span of history into existence, with Odo being its prehistoric incarnation.

Biography[]

The First[]

Driven by his misanthropic rage, Odio used the statues left by his predecessor to create the many incarnations of himself throughout the history to punish humanity for their perceived sins. Odo was the incarnation created in the prehistoric times, the last living dinosaur on Earth that would be revered by Kuu Tribe as a deity, who sacrifice people to appease it, thus providing it with food.

One day, the Kuu Tribe tried to offer it an innocent girl named Beru, but she ended up escaping her captivity and secretly took residence in Pogo's tribe, falling in love with the caveman, which led to them being banished once Beru was found out after the Kuu Tribe's attack. Eventually, the Kuu Tribe was able to recapture Beru, but Pogo and Gori broke into the place and tried to interrupt the sacrifice. As Pogo fought Zaki, the enforcer of the Kuu Tribe, Odo arrived, which resulted in the platform breaking, and Pogo, Gori, Beru, Zaki, and the Kuu Chief crashed down.

The five landed into the pile of bones of Odo's past victims, with the Kuu Chief immediately running towards his "god". However, Odo repaid his loyalty by eating him alive, spitting out his crown. Realizing that they have nowhere to run, Pogo, Gori and Beru decide to fight back against the dinosaur, with Zaki joining in once he got over his brief hesitation. In the end, they managed to defeat and slay the dinosaur. With their source of conflict gone, the Kuu Tribe (now led by Zaki) and Pogo's tribe made peace, with Pogo, Gori and Beru being welcomed back with open arms.

The Final Chapter[]

Having sensed defeats of his incarnations, Odio decided to take matters into his own hands. In the sad ending route, he takes direct control of Odo and helps it kill Pogo, Gori, Beru, and Zaki as a way to prove that humanity is beyond redemption and to give Odo its recourse. In the true ending, however, Odio brings Pogo with many other heroes into the now-empty kingdom of Lucrece to teach them a lesson on humanity's evil. However, he gets defeated, and as a last-ditch attempt, Odio forces the heroes to fight his incarnations once more, with Pogo having to refight Odo. Despite this second assault, the dinosaur, along with other Odio incarnations, falls once again, thus proving Odio's world view wrong.

Trivia[]

  • Odo, along with Odeo and OD-10, are the only incarnations of Odio that never took a human form. Odo is a Tyrannosaurus rex, while Odeo resembles a cross between a Buddha statue and a bird, and OD-10 resembles a holographic demon skull in its cyberspace manifestation in Captain Square.
  • Odo and Odeo are the only incarnations of Odio that are worshiped as gods.
    • Coincidentally, neither of them displays any signs of distinct personality.
  • Odo and OD-10 are the only incarnations to not be referred in masculine pronouns, instead being referred in gender-neutral pronouns. Every other incarnation uses masculine pronouns.
    • Coincidentally, both incarnations are fought in the exact opposite sides of the Live A Live timeline., with Odo's fight is the first chronologically while OD-10 is fought at the end of the timeline.
