Formless Oedon is the overarching antagonist of the 2015 action role-playing game Bloodborne. He is one of the Great Ones of Yharnam.
Biography[]
Unlike the other Great Ones, Oedon is formless and only exists as a voice. The reason behind this is uncertain, although some believe that Oedon managed to ascend to a higher plane than the rest of his kin. A chapel was built in the Cathedral Ward dedicated to his worship. Both Oedon and his inadvertent worshippers surreptitiously seek the precious blood.
While the Great Ones use surrogates as a way to deliver their children, Oedon directly conceives his children, doing so by impregnating maiden women forcefully. One of his presumed children is Mergo, a product of his union with Yharnam, the Pthumerian Queen. This is highly implied due to Mergo being formless, exactly like his presumed father.
Oedon plays no role in the Hunter's quest, but he plays a role in both the optional sidequests involving Arianna and the Imposter Iosefka, both of whom were impregnated by a Great One, most likely Oedon. Killing both during their pregnancy (or Arianna after giving birth, as her Celestial Emissary-like offspring dies immediately when she is killed) will grant the Hunter with a Third of an Umbilical Cord, with consuming three required to face the true final boss the Moon Presence. Annalise mentions wanting to have a child of blood, implying she wants to bear Oedon's child as well due to his essence being blood.
Two Caryll Runes based on Oedon can be acquired: the Formless Oedon increases Quicksilver Bullet capacity, and the Oedon Writhe replenishes Quicksilver Bullets for every visceral attack.
