Why? What do you mean, 'have the kid leave'? That's a good touch. That's a good touch. 'Have the kid leave.' That's good. 'Have the kid leave.' Why? Come on. It's over. Come on, Cain! Come on, man. What are you doing? Come on!
~ Duffy tries to call Cain's bluff before he is evicerated.

Officer Duffy is a minor antagonist in the 1990 science fiction action film RoboCop 2. A corrupt officer of the Detroit Police Department, he moonlights as an informant for the Nuke Cult, led by Cain. He provides intel regarding police plans and tactics to the criminal organization, at the cost of his fellow officers' lives.

He is portrayed by the late Stephen Lee, who also played Tharg in Babylon 5 and Bill Waverly in Profiler.

Events of RoboCop 2[]

After Omni Consumer Products (OCP) terminates the pension plans and reduces the salaries of their subsidiary, the Detroit Police Department, most employees go on strike. Among the exceptions are Officers Alex Murphy (RoboCop), his partner Anne Lewis and a handful of others, including Duffy. While the officers on duty are overworked and underpaid, Duffy is secretly compensated by moonlighting as an informant for the rising Nuke Cult, who have been peddling the extremely addictive narcotic "Nuke". In exchange for passing along the department's plans and tactics for the cult's leader, Cain, Duffy is paid in wads of cash and vials of Nuke.

One evening, Duffy meets with the cult's lieutenant Hob Mills and his enforcer Gilette at an arcade, where he passes them fresh intel about police movements. After hearing the cult's solution to kill several officers with snipers, Duffy is paid with a roll of bills. Hob notices that Duffy does not count his money -- he teases him for his conscience getting to him and has Gilette offer a package full of vials of Nuke. Duffy ashamedly snatches the Nuke from Gilette.

A commotion can be heard as the children jeer at RoboCop, alerting the criminals to his presence. Duffy attempts to sneak away, but is intercepted by RoboCop, who admonishes and batters the officer until he divulges Cain's whereabouts. Duffy is knocked unconscious and subsequently arrested.

Hob and the enforcer Catzo bail Duffy out of jail. The trio seem to celebrate together, with Duffy drinking merrily and cheering the cult on. Outside an abandoned hospital, Duffy is abruptly pistol-whipped by Catzo and strapped to a gurney that is wheeled into an operating room. There, he is confronted by Cain, Hob, Angie and several enforcers. A hack doctor enters the room, preparing tools for surgery while Cain's associates talk up what is coming to him. He half-apologizes for betraying Cain, believing the threats are a bluff—until the hack doctor actually cuts into him with a scalpel, squirting blood everywhere. As he is eviscerated, Cain's associates squirm in discomfort, unaware that Duffy would be murdered.

Trivia[]

  • Duffy's surname is the only name that he has in RoboCop 2, while his first name in the 1990 novelization is "Ambrose" and his first initial in the 2023 video game RoboCop: Rogue City is "E".
