~ Connie Springer to Annie Leonhart regarding the Okapi Titan. |
The Okapi Titan is a minor antagonist in the manga Attack on Titan. It was a former inheritor of one of the Nine Titans. It is assumed to be a former holder of the Beast Titan that lived at some point prior the beginning of the series. This Titan was resurrected by Ymir Fritz during the battle of Heaven and Earth on top of Eren Yeager’s Founding Titan. It was used to kidnap Armin Arlert and assimilate him so he wouldn't use the power of the Colossal Titan and to transport him to the Paths of the Coordinate.
Appearance[]
Titan Form[]
The Okapi Titan appeared to be a rather small Titan, probably around 4 meters in height while walking on all fours. This Titan’s most noticeable trait is the fact that its head is identical to that of an Okapi, whereas the body is similar to that of a normal Titan.
The head of the okapi Titan has a triangular shape with an elongated mouth, similar to that of the Cart Titan. It has a prolonged, dexterous tongue that can seemingly extend up to 2 meters in length. The ears are long and broad, always in an upwards position with the eyes being small and located more to the side of the head. The Titan also has a large snout. The Titan has small, stub-like projections on its forehead, but it is covered with skin.
Story[]
Past[]
The inheritor of this Titan was born during an unknown amount of time before the events of the story. This person may or may have not come into contact with an Okapi, an animal that doesn’t inhabit the continent where Eldia and Marley stem from. This Eldian would eventually inherit the power of the Beast Titan, with this person’s Titan taking the form of an Okapi. What this Titan Shifter would do with their powers is a mystery, but they would like all the others die 13 years after inheriting their powers, due to the Curse of Ymir.
War for Paradis arc[]
In the year 854, Eren Yeager gained full control over the Founding Titan after uniting with Ymir Fritz and activated the Rumbling, a world-wide catastrophic event where the Wall Titans created by Karl Fritz were freed and ordered to start marching across the entire globe, with the goal of trampling all humanity outside Paradis Island.
Having joined forces in order to stop Eren’s genocidal cataclysm, Eldia's defectors from the Survey Corps and Marley soldiers of the Warrior Unit land on top of Eren’s Founding Titan, but the spirit of Ymir Fritz, (who is the progenitor of all Titans), uses the power of the Founder to resurrect numerous incarnations of the Nine Titans so they can destroy them alliance. The Okapi Titan is also revived and is used by Ymir Fritz to kidnap Armin Arlert. The Titan snatches him by surprise and uses its large tongue to restrain him in its mouth.
Mikasa Ackerman, Connie Springer, and Annie Leonhart identify the Okapi Titan which seized Armin and attempt to reach it to rescue their friend. They are held off by the other resurrected Intelligent Titans attacking them, whilst the Okapi backs away from its pursuers. When Annie throws Mikasa in the Okapi Titan's direction, the other Titans begin shielding it, forcing Mikasa to fight against them and causing her to break her blades on the skin of a previous Armored Titan. While Annie saves Mikasa from the Armor, the Okapi flees to Bertolt Hoover's Colossal Titan, leaving the two women and Connie surrounded by the other various past incarnations of the Nine.
Just as Mikasa, Annie, and Connie are about to be overwhelmed by the Titans, Bertolt surprises the three when he, now free from Ymir Fritz's control, intervenes and begins fighting alongside them and the spirits of Marcel and Porco Galliard, Ymir (Jaw Titan one), Tom Ksaver, Eren Kruger, and Grisha Yeager. As the liberated group of Titans from Marley provides cover for the alliance, Mikasa resumes the pursue of the Okapi, which is still too fast. The Okapi is stopped by Gabi Braun, who shoots it in the head with her anti-Titan rifle, from atop Falco Grice's flying Jaw Titan, helping Mikasa to cut Armin out of its mouth. The Titan still manages to impale Armin's leg with its tongue, but Armin uses a Thunder Spear to kill it. As Armin begins to get dragged down with the Okapi's empty carcass, Connie cuts him free and Annie's Female Titan catches him.
Trivia[]
- Altough this Titan is assumed to be a former incarnation of the Beast Titan, because of its clear animal form. It can also be speculated that it was a former Cart Titan that was transformed with the spinal fluid from someone who held the Beast Titan, and in that manner, this person gained abilities from both the Cart and the Beast Titan.
