Old Man Carrucan.jpg

I want you to burn a runaway "R" right here on his cheek, and the girl, too. I want you to take them to the Greenville auction and sell them. Both of them... separately.
~ Old Man Carrucan instructing the Brittle brothers to seperate Django from his wife after torturing them.

Old Man Carrucan is the overarching antagonist in Django Unchained.

He was portrayed by Bruce Dern, who also portrayed Tom Buchanan in the 1974 film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Biography

Old Man Carrucan was a rich plantation owner who had caught two of his slaves, Django and his wife Broomhilda, trying to escape. He then had the Brittle Brothers whip Broomhilda in front of Django for punishment, had an "R" burnt on their right cheeks, and had them both sold separately and cheaply because he did not believe in blacks getting married.

It's later hinted that Carrucan was murdered by the Brittle Brothers for unspecified reasons and his death is what gave them the bounty to justify Django and Dr. King Schultz killing them on Spencer Bennet's plantation.

Trivia

  • Bruce Dern has also portrayed General Sanford Smithers in The Hateful Eight, which is another film made by Quentin Tarantino.
