Oleg Antakov, also known as The Ripper of Riga, is the overarching antagonist of the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders episode "The Ripper of Riga". Antakov is a dirty Russian federal agent and an imprisoned sadistic torture-murderer, who uses security guard Ivan Kozar for a prison escape and destructive plot for revenge against Agent Jack Garrett, the FBI agent who caught him.
He was portrayed by William Forsythe.
Biography[]
Antakov was the chief interrogator of a Riga, Latvia black site for the Soviet Union. His moniker was."The Ripper of Riga" from his signature weapon of torture, a set of sharpened metal dentures named "Metal Fang", which Antakov bit pieces out of his victims with. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, which by default discredited Antakov from his crimes against humanity, Antakov took his rage out on innocent victims with a series of sadistic murders, where he tortured them to death with Metal Fang to pretend he still had power. Detective Boris Poshakov and Agent Garrett conducted a joint manhunt that eventually he'd to Antakov's apprehension. Due to his record, Russia avoided the same of a trial by imprisoning Antakov at the Erdeli gulag. Antakov swore revenge on Garrett and slowly spent the next couple decades planning a violent retribution scheme to target Garrett and his family. He saw a weak link in Ivan Kozar, a guard on his security detail with Soviet nationalistic sympathies and whose father died when Kozar was young, leaving Antakov with a position for himself to manipulate once he made Kozar idolize him as a leader and paternal figure.
As Kozar hated American dancer Felicia Pope being hired for a primadonna role in a Russian ballet, Antakov gave Metal Fang to Kozar and taught him its use so Kozar could attack Felicia to satisfy his rage. To this end, Kozar kidnapped Felicia, then bit off her toe with the dentures to end her dancing career, leaving her toe in a teacup to give to Garret and his team, who had jurisdiction over her kidnapping. Garret knew Antakov was behind everything, from the weapon and realizing the kidnapper was working in federal security. Antakov met Garrett and Poshakov for the first time in years, taunting them by saying they needed his information. Antakov, having been transferred out of his high security to be interrogated distracted them long enough to not leave their colleagues prepsred for what awaited at Kozar's apartment, where they rescued Felicia: Kozar rigged the place with explosives, killing two FSB officers respnding to the scene. Antakov took the opportunity once the operation went south to kill three guards and an FSB escort, mutilating them so they weren't distinguishable from him and switching his jumpsuit for a uniform to escape. By the time Antakov reconvened with Kozar, the International Response Team was kicked out of Russia to bury the scandal, but Poshakov shot at some of his colleagues to distract them as an opportunity for Garret to sneak back into Russia and stop Antakov again.
It became personal when Kozar and Antakov kidnapped Garret's son Ryan, an undercover officer who infiltrated organized crime, from an assignment in Finland. Finding he was done with using Kozar, Antakov killed him with a shot to his head and left him for Garrett to find. In a final standoff, Antakov, after having beaten Ryan, held a gun on him and tossed another one to him once Garret was unarmed. Antakov made Ryan make a choice: pull the trigger of that gun on Agent Garret, or get shot dead by Antakov himself. Ryan gives and critically wounds Garrett, but Antakov tells Garret he'll torture Ryan to death regardless. Ryan takes another shot at Antakov, but the gun has no more bullets. Ryan admits it's his own misdirection at Antakov, kicking Garrett's gun back tohim, with which Garrett kills Antakov with a shot to his head. Garret is narrowly saved, and he and Ryan safely return to America.
