The game will end when I want it to. Or you can resign and the bombings will stop.
~ Ghost to Igor Grom.

Oleg Volkov is a mercenary and a childhood friend of Sergei Razumovsky, with whom he grew up in an orphanage and is believed to have been killed in Syria. He is also a former employee of HOLT International, known as «Ghost».

Biography[]

Major Grom: Plague Doctor[]

Throughout the film, Oleg was Sergei Razumovsky's imagination. Razumovsky's dark personality used his image as a cover for his true identity. It was believed that Oleg died in Syria a year before the events of the film.
It is only in the post-credits scene that it turns out that the real Oleg is still alive and is currently in Syria. His death was arranged so that Volkov would join the «Corpse Legion».

Major Grom: The Game[]

In the film, Oleg first appears to the audience as «The Ghost». He tries to kill Igor and Yulia at the moment when they celebrated their anniversary, using a homemade bomb tied to a plush toy of Major Grom and mounted on a radio-controlled car. After the explosion failed to kill the couple, Volkov goes out onto the roof of a neighboring house, letting the heroes see themselves.

He then waves to Grom and waits for him to jump to another building, after which he begins to run away from the major. The chase continues until Igor crashes into a smoke grenade specially installed between the pipes, at which point Oleg jumps on him and they fall down together, but thanks to a cable attached to the clothes of the «Ghost» - the opponents fall into one of the windows of an abandoned apartment, then there is a fight during which Oleg turns Igor's arm, and then begins to strangle him, at which point Grom notices that the terrorist has a four-digit «1526» brand on his forearm, then the major passes out and Volkov throws him out of the window.

After Igor regains consciousness, the mercenary immediately calls him from an unknown number, which is designated as «Major Grom», and using his voice changed to a hero, offers to play a game to test how good his intelligence is. During the conversation, Oleg informs that a bomb has been planted on the Palace Square, and it is hidden in a place of seven letters. The major thinks it's the Hermitage and runs there, but at the same time, Volkov detonates explosives hidden inside the column and it collapses on the square. After the explosion, the mercenary calls Igor again and says that he is disappointed in him, the first one asks what the villain wants, and the latter tells him that Grom needs to leave the police and then the terrorist attacks will stop. The main character declares that he is not going to leave anywhere, to which the «Ghost» replies that then his loved ones will suffer and hangs up.

The next time Oleg calls Igor, Igor was visiting the aged journalist Alexei Prishchurov. The mercenary says that the new bomb is hidden at the train station and will explode at 3 p.m., and also provides the code for the locker in which it lies. The major runs there and finds a box that can only be opened using the password from the breathalyzer, which will appear only when the device is at 100%. Grom gets drunk and opens the box, but the contents are not explosives, but a crossword puzzle with words leading to its location. Igor circles them and runs to the circus on Fontanka, but it turns out that it was the fountain «The Strong Man and the Lion», which Oleg has already blown up, which he tells the major with a mocking laugh.

Then, in the course of her investigation, Yulia Pchelkina finds a man who used to be with Volkov in the same team called the «Corpse Legion». He tells her that Oleg is a real professional, who single-handedly managed to cope with an entire squad of soldiers in Syria, being cornered and badly. The hermit also says that the mercenary goes by the call sign «Ghost», as he never shows himself to people for nothing, but only does so when he wants to. At the same time, we see that August Van Derholt calls Volkov and thanks him for his help, but then informs him that he has been exposed and the tycoon is forced to eliminate him. For this purpose August sends his squad of soldiers led by his bodyguard Otto Schreider, but Oleg kills them all and takes the suit of the latter, then speaks through the camera on one of the helmets that Holt gets out of St. Petersburg, because he has already sold the drones thanks to the help of the «Ghost» and there is nothing more to do here.

Then we see a flashback from a year ago, which shows how Volkov arrives at the psychiatric hospital where his childhood friend Sergei Razumovsky is kept. The mercenary asks his friend what they're feeding him here and who's to blame, to which Razumovsky replies that Grom is to blame. Oleg says that he will kill him, but Sergei, whose body is being possessed by the Bird, tells him that he has a better plan by which they will make Igor suffer.

Yulia publishes all the information she has received from the hermit and tells the residents that one man is to blame for all the terrorist attacks that took place in the city - Oleg Volkov, simultaneously publishing his photo for all to see. The police use this photo as an orientation and begin to detain anyone who looks like a mercenary.

At the same time, Oleg shaves and cuts his hair to look the same as in the previously published picture, and after that he kidnaps Fedor Prokopenko and lets the cameras see himself. The police arrive at his former lair, an abandoned casino, but the «Ghost» is no longer there, but the former police chief is plastered with explosives. Volkov calls Igor again and says that he has broken their agreement, after which he kills Prokopenko.

Then Oleg breaks into the TV studio, from where he kicks out all the employees and launches a virus from a flash drive created by Razumovsky called «Black Magrot», which was stored inside a vape that Volkov had previously stolen from the police vault along with the explosives of the Plague Doctor, which he also used to kill the prison governor, at the moment when Dmitry Dubin came to interrogate him.

Oleg starts a live broadcast and tells the residents of the city the sad news:

  1. He mined the subway and blocked people in it.
  2. Oleg has taken out all the drones that could find him.
  3. If the police tried to storm the TV studio, he will detonate the bombs ahead of schedule, causing half the city to explode.

Then he explains that only Major Grom is to blame for everything that has happened, arguing that he considers St. Petersburg only his own and does not care about the welfare of its citizens (as proof of his words, he reproduces an audio recording of his phone conversation with Igor, which took place after the explosion of the stella on Palace Square), so the citizens of the city do not need to feel sorry for him, but to find Igor and kill him, then Oleg will disable all the detonators. Volkov gives three hours to «fulfill the condition».

After being addressed, Volkov passes out and begins to wait, playing his guitar and humming the song «The Last Hero» by the band Kino.

Soon he is attacked by the suddenly arrived Igor and tries to detain Volkov, while Sergey, brought by Grom, tries to deactivate the virus. The mercenary, using the equipment of the murdered Otto Schreider, again easily defeats the major, but does not kill him, as Razumovsky is once again possessed by his second personality, who tells his entire plan to Grom: to make Grom the most hated man in the city and, as a consequence, an easy target.

As it turned out, Oleg bribed Frolov to get the prisoners to riot in St. Petersburg's Central Prison. Thanks to the fact that the entire city's police force arrived at the prison, Oleg easily stole the Plague Doctor's explosives and the Black Margot flash drive from the whitchdocs' warehouse. It was also Oleg who suggested that Holt set up the controlled terrorist attacks that forced Maria Arkhipova to buy a large shipment of Holt International drones at an inflated price.

Oleg tells his friend that they have to go, to which he asks not to interrupt him, and then shoots his partner, from which Oleg briefly loses consciousness.

While Igor is having a conversation with Razumovsky's second personality, Volkov comes to his senses. At the same moment, August Holt in his high-tech suit bursts into the TV studio through the window, wanting to finish Oleg off. Volkov fights his former employer on equal terms and even almost gains the upper hand. But Holt, being in a state of rage, emits a strong discharge of lightning, from which Oleg flies away.

Last time Oleg is shown in the car with a collar around his neck and in a prison robe. One escort sits to his right and left. For all the crimes committed, Volkov will go to prison.

Personality[]

During the events of «The Game» Oleg demonstrated himself as a cruel and harsh mercenary - he destroyed monuments of his hometown without pity and killed everyone who stood in his way - from Fyodor Prokopenko to the mercenaries of August Van der Holt (apparently, also dissolving their bodies in acid). Was also ready to kill and childhood friend in return for betrayal. According to Alexei Prishchurov, he may also have been involved in war crimes as part of the Corpse Legion.

Abilities[]

  • Combat skills: Serving in the army and working in the Corpse Legion made Volkov an excellent hand-to-hand combatant. Oleg easily defeated Igor Grom (twice!) and Otto Schreiber in hand-to-hand combat. He is an excellent wielder of the telescopic staff and is able to quickly learn to fight with new weapons (Otto Schreiber's retractable armor blades). He also fights Holt on equal footing while dressed in his signature super suit.
  • Master Marksman: Volkov has excellent skilled in sharpshooting (pistol, assault rifle).
  • Explosives Mastery: Volkov is able to create explosive devices such as suicide belt, white phosphorus explosives. In addition, Volkov is able to create smoke grenades.
  • Master Survival: According to the Hermit, while working in Syria, Volkov was able to single-handedly take out a squad of soldiers while cornered and badly wounded. Volkov also easily took out a squad of Holt and Otto Schreiber's mercenaries while outnumbered and without firearms.
  • Mastery of digital technology: Volkov is able to create a neural voice to use to maintain conspiracy while talking on a cell phone with Igor Grom. He is also able to create detonators for explosives from button phones.
