Do not touch a drop. Not yet. I want to watch this so-called slayer’s last crisis of faith.
~ Olivia Voldaren
I can make you dance to my tune like a puppet, your very blood eager to obey.
~ Olivia Voldaren

Olivia Voldaren is a vampire and the main antagonist of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow storyline of Magic: the Gathering. She's known as the progenitor of the Voldaren bloodline of vampires and is known for throwing the best parties on the plane. While she was introduced in the original Innistrad block and was a reluctant ally to Sorin Markov in the Shadows over Innistrad block, her most nefarious actions take place when she tries to conquer the plane of Innistard by uniting the vampire bloodlines under her control.

History[]

Past[]

Before she embraced vampirism, Olivia was a woman known for her beauty, her strange tendencies, her wealth, and for avoiding people and living in seclusion. This last trait extends to the vampires she and her bloodline have sired. After she became a vampire, she now spends much of her time traveling to locations controlled by her and her new family. She has also gained a reputation among the other vampire bloodlines for throwing the best parties on the plane. She likes to play games with humans before she feeds on them and her favorite is called the "Court of the Vampire King". During this three day celebration, a random human is kidnapped and taken to the Voldaren estate. That person is now dubbed king or queen of the ball for the next three days. During this time, Olivia and the other vampires must obey their new ruler's orders except ones that would allow them to leave their position. After the three days are up, Olivia and the other vampires turn their former master into their next meal. She is also known for being eccentric. Though she normally isn't particular about the humans she targets, she does derive pleasure from watching Cathars lose their faith before they are slain.

Shadows over Innistrad[]

Olivia-mobilized-for-war

Olivia was recruited by the vampire planeswalker Sorin Markov in his crusade against Nahiri. She agreed to help him in exchange for him to unmake the powerful angel he created named Avacyn that has slain many of her kind before. After Sorin reluctantly destroyed his greatest creation, Olivia assembled her bloodline and joined Sorin in his fight against Nahiri.

Olivia and her family did battle against Nahiri's cultists. Once Sorin and Nahiri were finally going to face each other, Olivia briefly stopped them. Though she admits Sorin deserves what has happened up to this point and while she would normally allow her to have her vengeance against Sorin, she would uphold her end of the bargain and fight Nahiri in his stead. Nahiri then summoned a horde of Eldrazi monsters to keep Olivia and her vampire forces busy. After Nahiri defeated Sorin and imprisoned him inside a stone wall, Olivia took Sorin's title of the Lord of Innistard and stole his sword.

With Sorin out of the way, Olivia and her vampires headed to Thraben where the denizens of Innistrad were preparing their final stand against Emrakul. She met with the leader of the Order of Saint Traft named Thalia and they form a temporary truce until the Eldrazi or they are dead. During the battle, Olivia killed the leader of the Sinpurged Seeta in front of Thalia.

Midnight Hunt[]

Olivia's Midnight Ambush

While not playing a major role at this point of the story, she was informed about the Harvesttide Festival and about the werewolf planeswalker Arlinn Kord's attempt to prevent the endless night. She chose not to interfere because she believed Arlinn and her allies would execute her plans for her. Once the festival reached its end, Olivia arrived and kidnapped Katilda. She would release her in exchange for the Moonsilver Key that the group of heroes had. Arlinn agreed and gave Olivia the key while she threw Katilda down to her and injured them both in the process. With the key in hand, Olivia returned to her estate.

Crimson Vow[]

Olivia Crimson Bride

Olivia was ready to host the biggest wedding in Innistrad's history and the other vampire bloodlines were all cordially invited to attend. She intended to marry the progenitor of the Markov bloodline Edgar Markov and with the two biggest vampire bloodlines united, the rest would be under her control as well. She also intended to fill the Moonsilver Key with the blood of the most powerful angel on the plane named Sigarda to control the plane's angels. After Olivia obtained the key, she captured Sigarda some time after she fought Sorin and needed Edgar's sangromancy powers to do that. She woke up Edgar with her own blood and charmed him in the process. Being in a state of confusion, Edgar agreed to marry Olivia in front of his grandson Sorin. During the exchange of vows, Sorin attacked Olivia at the same moment Katilda's soul manifested out of the key. Katilda used her powers to free Sigarda who released her aura to both remove all the wards that protected Olivia's estate and impaled many of the vampires attending the wedding with glass with many dying as a result.

With the wards protecting the estate gone, Arlinn and her allies stormed the building and fought the vampires present. While Olivia put up some resistance against the intruders, Kaya broke her hold over the spirits she controlled which caused Olivia to retreat with Arlinn following not far behind. Arlinn cornered Olivia and wanted to find the key, but the bride stabbed Arlinn with her dagger-like fingernails causing her to lose control of her werewolf form.

Olivia took this time to escape with the Moonsilver Key and was later found by her fiancé Edgar who wanted her to stop her schemes. They were also discovered by Arlinn and her pack along with the former werewolf pack leader Tovolar who to wanted slaughter them, but was stopped by Arlinn. Olivia dropped the key and the newlyweds fled out the nearest broken window.
