~ Olly fatally stabs Jon Snow. |
Olly is a supporting character in Game of Thrones, the television adaptation of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series.
He was portrayed by Brenock O'Connor.
Biography[]
Olly was originally a villager from the Gift but later joined the Night's Watch after his village was sacked by wildings and his parents murdered in cold blood and cannibalized. During the Battle for the Wall, he avenged his parents by shooting Ygritte in the heart with his bow, leaving her lover, Jon Snow, devastated. When Jon Snow becomes the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Olly becomes his steward, but he later betrays Jon when he participates in the Mutiny at Castle Black alongside Ser Alliser Thorne, Othell Yarwyck, Bowen Marsh, and several other Night's Watch officers, stabbing Jon in the chest.
Olly is later arrested when the wildlings arrive at Castle Black to protect Jon's body, and he is thrown into the Ice Cells for treason. When Jon is revived by Melisandre, he orders Olly and the 3 traitorous leaders responsible for his murder to be hanged. When Jon collects the last words from each mutineer, Olly is the only one who refuses to speak and instead glares at Jon, giving him one final look of hatred before Jon hangs him.
Trivia[]
- Olly is an invention/amalgamation for the TV show and does not appear in the books. He mainly takes the roles of two characters from the books: Satin (Jon's personal steward) and Bowen Marsh. The identity of Ygritte's killer in the novels was never disclosed, as Jon preferred not know in order to remain comfortable with his fellow black brothers.
- He is considered to be one of the most hated characters (although unintentionally on the writers'part) in the show following Season 5, and he is even able to rival the likes of Ramsay Bolton and the Sand Snakes (the latter also unintentionally on the writers' part).
