~ Suarez threatening Tony Montana.

Omar Suarez is a minor antagonist of the 1983 epic crime drama film Scarface, a remake of the 1932 film of the same name.

He acts as the right-hand man of Frank Lopez, who hires Tony Montana and Manny Ribera to work in Lopez's mob. In reality, he is a police informant, for which he is murdered in the middle of the movie.

He was portrayed by F. Murray Abraham, who also played Antonio Salieri in Amadeus, Bernardo Gui in The Name of the Rose, Ahdar Ru'afo in Star Trek: Insurrection, Cyrus Kriticos in Thirteen Ghosts, Grimmel the Grisly in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, Khonshu in Moon Knight and The Traveler in Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities.

Biography[]

Suarez, a wealthy Miami drug trafficker, hires Manny Ribera to kill former Cuban official Emilio Rebenga, who is responsible for the death of Frank Lopez's brother. Manny, with the aid of his partner-in-crime Tony Montana, incites a riot in Freedom town, and they assassinate Rebenga. As a reward, Omar gives Tony and Manny money to qualify for Green Cards. Life in Miami would not be an instant success for the pair, and they both start working at a Cuban food stand.

Shortly after, Omar and one of his men head to the food stand, and he informs them of another job: stealing a boat with 25 tons of marijuana, with a reward of $500 for each. Tony is offended and demands that they be paid $1000. When a heated argument breaks out, Omar instead informs them about another job: a deal of 2 kilos of cocaine sold by the Colombians. If they manage to bring Omar the cocaine, he will pay them $5000. Omar leaves, but not before threatening to kill both Tony and Manny if something happens to the purchase money.

The deal goes south and Tony's friend Angel is murdered, but Tony and his remaining companions manage to execute the Colombian drug traffickers and steal the cocaine. Tony insists on making an impression by directly handing the cocaine over to Frank, Omar's boss, and Tony and Manny start doing business with Frank themselves.

Later, Omar takes Tony to Bolivia to do business with Alejandro Sosa, a powerful Bolivian drug trafficker. Tony insists on making a more ambitious deal with Sosa than authoritized, greatly offending Omar. Omar then decides to return to Miami to discuss this with Frank. Sosa agrees but unbeknownst to him, Sosa already knew that he was an informant. Sosa asks Tony to stay and shows him his men beating Omar in a helicopter with a rope tied around his neck. Sosa's personal hitman, The Skull, throws him from the helicopter, hanging him.

Sosa uses the situation to assess Tony’s character. Tony claims that he suspected Omar set up the death of his friend during the failed drug deal, but keeps his loyalty to Frank and offers to mend their business relationship. Omar's death strains the relationship between Tony and Frank, who does not believe Sosa’s accusations, later culminating in Tony killing Frank and becoming Sosa’s main business partner.
