One-Eye is a major antagonist in the 2024 sci-fi action crossover film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the fifth installment of the MonsterVerse franchise.
He is a high-ranking member of the Red Stripes and Skar King's second-in-command and right-hand man, who aids him in ruling over his clan of enslaved Great Apes to make sure that they follow his master's orders and killing those who oppose Skar King.
Appearance[]
One-Eye is a bonobo-like Titan with an appearance quite similar to that of Kong, but is missing a lot of his fur. His right eye is blind, hence the name, and milky grey with a scar running across it. Like the other members of the Red Stripes who are loyal to Skar King, he is shown to have war paint on his body.
Personality[]
As Skar King's right-hand man and a high-ranking member of the Red Stripes, One-Eye is shown to be completely loyal to the Skar King, repeatedly reporting back to his master and being shown to lead his forces when the Skar King himself is not directing things personally as well as being more intelligent than the other members of the Red Stripes, as shown when he noticed and evaded one of Kong's tripwire traps. He takes after Skar King in treating his minions horribly, even using one of them as a meat shield to protect himself from a landslide. Although One-Eye is Skar King's field general, it's revealed that he was being used as a tool by his king as Skar King never cared about him, while his other henchmen don’t even care for him either.
Although abused as One-Eye may be, he is still loyal to his leader and follows orders from Skar King. Even when Kong challenges Skar King, One-Eye is the one who leads the other Great Apes in pounding ritualistically for the duel to hype up his ruler. From start to finish, One-Eye is depicted as a sadistic and cruel adversary, though this is what eventually leads to his defeat at the hands of Suko when he meets his end falling off the edge of one of the Iwi tribe's pyramids when trying to kill the young Great Ape for his betrayal during his fight with Suko in the Hollow Earth.
Biography[]
Past[]
Not much is known about One-Eye's early life beyond the fact that he was one of the many Great Ape children of Skar King and was raised into becoming his most loyal follower. Once he had reached adulthood, he served as the Skar King's second-in-command and right-hand man as well as a member of the Red Stripes, a group of Great Apes who are loyal to the Skar King while employing the tactics of fear to make sure the other Great Apes followed Skar King's orders or kill them if they oppose his king. One-Eye also appears to be rather old, suggesting he has served Skar King for a while.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire[]
Years later in 2027, a sinkhole is accidentally created by Kong while he was hunting a pack of Wart Dogs, freeing Skar King and the Great Apes. Seeing an opening to his cavernous prison, Skar King sent One-Eye and two other Great Apes named Stone-Fist and Catcher, as well as a young primate named Suko, to survey the area. One-Eye and his men would eventually encounter and attack Kong, who swiftly fights back and defeats both Stone-Fist and Catcher. Frightened, One-Eye escapes, with Kong hitting him on the head with a boulder as One-Eye makes his way back to Skar King's domain.
Later, when Kong discovers that the Great Apes were enslaved and hidden within the fiery realm of the Hollow Earth, One-Eye would witness Kong single-handedly knock one of Skar King's guards unconscious for abusing a Great Ape named Boots, leading to him to get the Skar King's attention, even starting the chant during his master's fight with Kong.
One-Eye was later ordered by Skar King to go after Kong and kill him when his right hand was frostbitten and injured by Shimo's freezing blast, accompanied by fellow loyalists who went after him. Kong lured them into one of his hunting traps, but One-Eye and the other apes were too smart to trigger its tripwire before they cross over it and finish off Kong. However, Suko, atop the ravine, saves Kong's life by pushing the trap into motion, raining boulders down onto the menacing apes which buries and crushes them to death. Unbeknownst to Kong and Suko as they escape, One-Eye manages to survive as he used one of his men as a shield to protect himself while the rest are killed in the process. Discovering that Kong has fled to seek refuge at the Iwi temple where the portals leading to the surface world are being held, he heads to Skar King's stronghold and reports to his master, who heads with One-Eye and four others off to war, intending to finally invade the surface world.
During the battle between Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Skar King, Shimo and Skar King's minions, One-Eye attacks Kong from behind, but is repelled by Suko with a pair of boulders. One-Eye then pursues Suko and grabs him in an attempt to kill the young Great Ape for his betrayal until the Iwi's gravitational inversion reverts, dropping both apes onto a massive crystal. One-Eye tries to aggressively catch Suko, only for him to kick the evil primate in the face, sending One-Eye falling to his death.
