One (written as 01) is the overarching antagonist of Sweet Home and main antagonist of its prequel Shotgun Boy. He was the leader of a group of shapeshifting monsters who were experimented on by the MM Corporation. After gaining the powers of Zero, an Agent of God, he created the monster apocalypse.
Appearance[]
One in his true form is an amorphous pink monster with a singular red bloodshot eye.
Throughout the story, One takes multiple human disguises. His main form is a man with long black curly (a perm according to Seongbin) with pale skin, blood red eyes with dark circles under his eyes. He generally expresses no emotion on his face other than a sadistic smile.
Personality[]
One is a cold, callous, and dispassionate figure, and is rather aloof, brooding, and indifferent. His cold demeanor allows him to stay completely calm and in control in most situations, and he is not easily surprised or caught off-guard. He shows some form of camaraderie ordering Four to retreat as he did not want to lose another one of his comrades, although this is possibly fake.
One holds the belief that around 70% of humanity must be culled. He does not want to kill them all due to his love of human arts and culture. He is very serious about this mission, unlike his partners who seem to have fun killing people. He also likes to keep the identity of the monsters a secret from everybody else.
On the inside, One is a very narcissistic megalomaniac. His inflated ego and delusional self worth make him believe he is above everybody, even a supposed god. He is also ruthless towards his own species, as he has even devoured even more of them than humans to increase his power, which he kept secret from his comrades. He only shows interest in individuals who share his hatred for humanity and are useful to him, like Seongbin Yu. He mocks anyone for thinking otherwise, not understanding why a powerful individual, like Zero, would want to protect "such stupid humans," saying it would be better to be friends with "someone like him". Additionally, he freely brags about his own abilities (despite using sneaky tactics to his advantage) to him and mocks him during their fight. When Zero's comrade arrive as backup (equipped with variant-killing venom), however, One loses his composure and noticeably looks scared. He angrily curses Gyuhwan when he shoots him with a Shotgun.
Despite his cowardly and arrogant traits, he shows honor when promising he won't kill Suyeon Kim's friends if she kills herself.
After absorbing Zero's powers, One sees the world for what it is and becomes nigh-omniscient. He becomes much more mature, even believing it is right to spare Gyuhwan and his crew.
Biography[]
Background[]
In its past, One lived as a normal man who enjoyed human culture and art.
Like its partners, One was experimented on by the MM Corporation in Area C. Before being designated to move to Area A, One and its partners escaped the containment and took over MM-C.
Shotgun Boy[]
One, disguised as a camp employee, first appears to welcome the students to their retreat. He demands everyone to empty their bags, which he says is for an inspection, but is actually to take their phones to they can't contact the police once him and his partners begin their plans.
Later, at the school talent show, when Five announces and begins her killings, him and his partners block off the students' escape. The monsters proceed to kill multiple staff and students. Having them surrounded, Shinyeong Kang interjects and demands that the monsters show their true form to which One accepts. One then proceeds to threaten Shinyeong, getting ready to kill her. However, he steps back when Five chimes in and wants to kill her instead.
Just then, they are interrupted when Gyuhwan enters with a Shotgun. One demands a variant to kill him, but it is killed by Gyuhwan. One recognizes the gun he used. After realizing Gyuhwan is more of a threat then expected, One demands that they retreat. Four then gives a smokescreen, giving them the chance to exit.
After retreating with the some of the variants, One and his group later run into a dying Three, who asks One to avenge him. One honors his wishes and eats his brain, getting his memories of what happened before dying. Upon doing this, he "remembers" Zero, the monster that killed him. One describes to the others that he is like a "god". Suddenly, a smoke beacon lights off in the distance. One sends Four to stop it. He then asks Seven to kill the remaining survivors, but to spare a certain student because he is greatly interested on the Monsterization Tumor he has.
Later, he confronts two police officers on the destroyed bridge to the retreat. They inform him that there has been a disturbance and One attempts to deny this. The officers say they have to investigate anyway just to be sure, so One quickly kills them to avoid more trouble.
Later, One sneaks behind Zero to pierce him. Zero regenerates so they proceed to fight. He is able to put up a good fight until Gyuhwan comes to the scene and fires at him. One starts to become eratic then gets knocked out with a gunshot to the chest by Gyuhwan.
