Orbot and Cubot are secondary antagonists of the Sonic Boom series. They are a duo of robotic lackeys assisting Dr. Eggman in his schemes to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog and take over Seaside Island.
Like their mainstream counterparts, they were voiced by Kirk Thornton and Wally Wingert, respectively.
Biography[]
Past[]
For some time, Eggman created robots from the Cubot series, but was dissatisfied with all the prototypes' performance and discared them. In fear of getting recycled, the Cubot prototypes escaped Eggman's lair and found refuge in a valley on Seaside Island. Eventually, Eggman kept the last Cubot model and went on to create the Orbot series. Orbot would thus become the "perfect Cubot".
Sonic Boom (TV series)[]
- Can an Evil Genius Crash on Your Couch for a Few Days?: When moving over to Tails' house, Eggman took Orbot and Cubot with him, and together the three exhausted Sonic and Tails to make them easy prey for Obliterator Bot, though this plan ultimately backfired.
- Dude, Where's My Eggman?: Having awakened in the lair with no recollection of the past day, Orbot and Cubot realized that Dr. Eggman had gone missing. After searching for him, they came to a conclusion that he had been arrested, and to pay bail for him, they performed in the streets and tried to scam Amy out of her money, but ultimately gave up all their earnings out of guilt, and sold the Eggmobile to T.W. Barker. When they broke out the prisoner, he turned out to be Willy Walrus rather than Eggman. Eventually, Orbot and Cubot came to falsely believe that their master accidentally disintegrated himself. Back in the lair, however, they found Eggman alive and well, as well as a surprise party in their honor. Eggman revealed to them that he had them set this party up before erasing their memory.
- Don't Judge Me: When Dr. Eggman sued Sonic for allegedly injuring him, Orbot and Cubot helped provide false evidence to the court.
- The Curse of Buddy Buddy Temple: After Eggman got trapped in the Buddy Buddy Temple alongside Sonic, the robot duo decided to endorse their newfound freedom and desert Eggman to his doom, but later returned only because they found their newfound freedom too overwhelming rather then genuine concern for Eggman and joined the heroes in brainstorming rescue scenarios.
- Let's Play Musical Friends: Orbot and Cubot quit working for Eggman over his negligience and defected to Team Sonic. They discovered that Dr. Eggman's new friend, Nominatus, was an evil virus plotting to destroy all life forms, and helped stop him.
- Eggman the Autheur: Orbot and Cubot participated in Eggman's scheme to brainwash the populace with his movies. In particular, they lied to Sonic that Eggman was mining for Unobtainium to make new robots, which would replace them, out of it. Later, Orbot informed Eggman that the villains forgot to install the mind-control device, rendering their plan obsolete.
- Fuzzy Puppy Buddies: To provide cover for Eggman stealing a game piece from Stratford, Orobt and Cubot caused a rockslide at the convention and framed the Lightning Bolt Society for it.
- Strike!: Fed up by their master's abuse, the robots took Amy's advice and went on a strike, soon joined by the rest of Eggman Industries staff, ultimately forcing the doctor to give in to their demands.
- The Evil Dr. Orbot: After Eggman failed his exam and thus couldn't commit evil, Orbot took the exam and, having passed it flawlessly thanks to the data he downloaded, began enacting his own evil schemes, with a better success rate than Eggman. Eventually, Orbot cut ties with Eggman and abandoned him to strike out as his own villain, named “The Evil Dr. Orbot”, with Cubot also ditching Eggman to work under Orbot because he wanted to be on a winning team for once. During the attack on the Town Hall, however, he destroyed the paperwork for the villainy permits, allowing Eggman, who had hoped for him to do exactly that, to resume his villainy, while Cubot, who became fed up with Orbot’s newly found abusive and callous personality, rebooted Orbot back to his old self.
- Robots from the Sky: Orbot and Cubot were among the victims of Hypnobot's malware, and kept rampaging even after getting freed from his control.
- The Haunted Lair: When T.W. Barker took over Eggman's lair and company, the doctor had Orbot and Cubot install the Anti-allegiance virus into Badniks, making them turn on the con artist and forcing him to give up the ownership of them and the lair.
- Eggman's Anti Gravity Ray: After getting stuck to the Anti Gravity Ray, Cubot went mad with its power and started affecting everyone around, raising them further into upper layers of the atmosphere. Orbot helped Sonic and Tails fix the ray, bringing everyone affected back to the ground.
Personality[]
Orbot and Cubot are an odd couple, the former usually being the smarter and more serious of the two, while Cubot is dumber and more energetic. The two are on good terms with each other almost all the time. Though they are usually loyal to Dr. Eggman and care for his well-being, they are not above abandoning him, especially when they feel like he goes overboard with his mistreatment of them. While they are enemies with Team Sonic, they don't always act hostile towards them. Orbot usually acts as the brains of the duo, but that doesn't mean that Cubot can't make independent decisions. Despite Orbot being the smarter of the duo, he is only slightly more intelligent compared to Cubot and is not above engaging in moronic antics alongside his compatriot.
Trivia[]
- Orbot, Cubot, Sticks the Badger, and Metal Sonic are the only Sonic Boom characters who are completely identical in appearance to their main series counterparts.
- In 1 episode, Orbot and Cubot almost turned good. In Sonic X, Bocoe and Decoe did the same thing. But unlike Orbot and Cubot, Bocoe and Decoe were good guys for 1 episode, and they eventually go back to working with Dr. Eggman.
