“ | I itch to peel you, to split your skin, to see your skull shine in the light, little tyrant. Lucky for you, I harvested a whole family of living-flesh in Rivington at Highsun. They will sate my blade-thirst tonight. But tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, my blades will thirst again. | „ |

Orin the Red is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Ketheric Thorm) of the 2023 fantasy role-playing video game Baldur's Gate III.
She is the main antagonist of The Dark Urge's personal questline The Urge, as well as one of the overarching antagonists of Act I and one of the main antagonists (alongside Enver Gortash and Raphael) of Act III.
She is a psychotic and bloodthirsty changeling and chosen of the god Bhaal, who conspired with Enver Gortash and Ketheric Thorn in the conquest of Faerun through the Cult of the Absolute. Desperate to seek his approval, Orin plots to betray her allies to take control of the Absolute to commit mass murder and destruction in Bhaal's name.
She is also the daughter of Sarevok Anchev, and the kin relative and arch-nemesis of the Dark Urge, whom she wishes to kill so she could remain as the Chosen of Bhaal. She is also the archenemy of Minthara Baenre, whom she tortured and brainwashed in joining the cult.
She was voiced by Maggie Robertson, who also voiced Alcina Dimitrescu in Resident Evil Village.
Appearance[]
Orin is a pale and blue-grey skinned woman with swirling, smoke-like plumes of red, with dull grey eyes contoured by dark eyeliner, to give her an intimidating look and a straw-colored braided hair that falls back to the back of her knees in a fastening reminiscent of a flail.
True to her name, Orin wears a red bright-blooded armor, rigid and rough like chitin, along with an ornate silver tiara with the centerpiece shaped in the form of a person supplicant and a single crimson gem giving her appearance some color.
Personality[]
Out of all the Chosen in the cult, Orin is far more sadistic and twisted than the likes of Gortash and Thorm. Orin is a sadistic and cruel woman who is utterly devoted to the Murder Lord, whom she deeply praises with such twisted devotion and love, and tends to be brutal and creative in her ritualistic killings. She is also incredibly immature that she comes across as a childish and psychotic womanchild, due to her unhinged bloodlust and as a result, she tends to be rebellious against authority figures like Gortash, whom she has no sense of loyalty to, as she craves to kill him, but can't due to being prevented from doing so. Because of her unhinged nature, Gortash and Thorm, as well as several of her Bhaal cultists view her as a hindrance.
Despite Orin's psychotic and childish tendencies, she is incredibly intelligent, and able to impersonate the person she disguises herself as and tricks her enemies. She also tends to prey on her victims like a predator, giving them a false sense of reassurance before striking. However, her intelligence is often tested due to being unable to control her bloodlust, which causes her to become more violent and sadisitic, revoking threats and dark fantasies of violence, grotesque brutality, and deaths before she shifts back into her true appearance.
Biography[]
“ | Duties, duties, duties. Patrolling and saluting and following and bowing and scraping and yes, sir, no, sir, rip and cut your throat, sir. | „ |
~ Orin. |
Orin was a devoted, but mentally disturbed, priestess of Bhaal who served directly under the mysterious white dragonborn known only as the Dark Urge during the late 15th century DR. In the Year of Three Ships Sailing, 1492 DR, the Dark Urge orchestrated a plot with two fellow chosen of the Dead Three, Lord Enver Gortash and Ketheric Thorm, to rule the whole continent of Faerun in the names of their gods. All the while, Orin bided her time for the right opportunity to take action and seize Bhaal's favor for herself. Her love for killing and mayhem and reckless personality shocked even Sarevok.
After the trio enslaved an elder brain beneath Baldur's Gate with the Crown of Karsus and founded the Cult of the Absolute religious movement, Orin attacked the Dark Urge, inserted a knife into his skull, and implanted a modified illithid tadpole into his brain. She then took over his role as Bhaal's chosen in the plot, but unfortunately proved to be undisciplined. She continued to kill innocents in Baldur's Gate without restraint, seeking to further ingratiate herself to the god Bhaal.
Powers and Abilities[]
Like other Bhaalspawn, Orin had the ability to transform into the monster avatar of Bhaal known as the Slayer.
As a changeling, she also had the ability to shapeshift and take on the appearance of other humanoids, and could deceive even their most loyal allies.
Orin performed her killings with two unique blades, the shortsword called Crimson Mischief and the dagger known as the Blade of the First Blood. She also carried with her Bloodthirst, the dagger wielded by the mortal Bhaal when he performed his first murders in the city of Baldur's Gate. She also wore a unique ring that allowed her to retreat from danger.

Trivia[]
- According to Larian Studios, Orin's appearance was based on Changelings, a fey race in Dungeons & Dragons' 3rd Edition known for shapeshifting and deception.
- Although most non-player characters in Baldur's Gate 3 do not have character classes, Orin's proficiency in shortswords and close-range combat as well as deception and illusionary spellcasting were meant to be similar to the Arcane Trickster subclass of the Rogue class in-game.
