~ Orsted to Rudeus Greyrat. |
Orsted (オルステッド Orusuteddo) is a major antagonist turned supporting character in the light novel series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, and will return at some point in time in the upcoming sequel.
Orsted is a member of the Dragon Tribe, who seeks to gain revenge against Hitogami, his most dreaded archenemy, for destroying his own world, as well as killing his own father, the First Dragon God.
Him crossing paths later with Rudeus Greyrat later sparked an antagonistic conflict between one another, due to him being affiliated to Hitogami, who went so far in attempting to kill him twice in separate occasions. However, he allayed his antagonism towards Rudeus, after revealing Hitogami's own true nature, and vows to defeat the insane God with him, as means to end his reign of terror.
Orsted is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in Japanese, who voiced Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia, Ryuji Yamazaki in Fatal Fury and King of Fighters, Vinsmoke Yonji in One Piece, Seto Kaiba in Yu-Gi-Oh, and Isshiki Ōtsutsuki in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. He is voiced by Gabe Kunda in English.
Appearance[]
Orsted shares the same golden sanpaku eyes and silver hair as other members of the Dragon Race like Perugius. He is also considered to be taller, towering significantly from people like Rudeus by a significant margin, as well as having an average physical fit.
He is unarmed and is sporting a white coat with fur trimming.
Personality[]
Orsted has relatively weak social skills and carries a slightly aloof demeanour as a result of bearing the curse of being despised and feared by all living beings that glimpse his face. He is utterly vicious when it comes to achieving his goal and would kill anything in his path without hesitation, regardless of who or what it may be.
He has nearly murdered Rudeus twice as a result of his willingness to combat any Hitogami apostles, frequently without even stopping to listen to them.
To his surprise, he has a sensitive side and is nice and patient with his teammates. Moreover, he has demonstrated that he is quite friendly to kids, especially Rudeus' kids, who are immune to his curse and don't fear or despise him.
In spite of the enormous authority and standing gaps, he is nevertheless incredibly modest, preferring to refer to his adherents as comrades rather than inferiors.
He often becomes upset while discussing anything pertaining to the Dragon Race, as seen by the fact that Rudeus's mention of the Dragon Race and Perugius caused him to get rather irate.
In an odd turn of events, he appears to despise the Dragon Kings and does not get along with the other Dragon Race.
Background[]
Past[]
The First Dragon God, Orsted's father, and Lunaria, a human lady and the daughter of the Human God, were married some 10,000–20,000 years ago in the city of Kayos in the Dragon World. Despite Lunaria's request, the First Dragon God has not yet given Orsted a name. There were six worlds at this period, each inhabited by a different race and controlled by a different god: the human world, the dragon world, the demon world, the beast world, the ocean world, and the sky world.
Orsted's mother, however, ultimately died under unsolved circumstances at some time. Hitogami, the Human God, alleged that the Dragon God's wife had died as a consequence of a conspiracy by the other gods against him. The Dragon God would get furious and launch a war of vengeance on the other planets with the help of his devoted generals.
The First Dragon God started a battle that resulted in the deaths of the other gods and the destruction of their planets; only the human world was spared, which led the survivors from the other worlds to flee there. The dragon god's ward, Orsted's adopted brother Laplace, however, disclosed that he had learnt that the Demon God's wife had also been inexplicably slain after destroying the demon planet.
The rather furious Dragon God prepared to wage war on the human world after learning that the person he had believed to be Human God was actually an impostor who had plotted everything. At this time, though, the war-weary Dragon Generals could take no more of their liege's incessant belligerence and turned against him, sparking a conflict so massive that it also destroyed the dragon planet.
In the end, the First Dragon God was left with a fatal wound, and the dragons that had survived fled for Earth. Hitogami then showed there and made an effort to kill the Dragon God. The Dragon God, however, managed to overcome the false Human God and imprison him in the space between worlds while being too weak to really kill him.
The Dragon God then utilised the last of his strength to send his child into the future with the task of killing Hitogami before succumbing to his injuries. He would, however, first eventually give his son a name: Orsted.
Mushoku Tensei[]
He makes his initial appearance in Volume 2 in the Red Dragon mountain range, where he uses one attack to slay each of two Red Dragons in self-defense. He curiously moves toward the Fedoa Region after observing the unusual mana collecting there as a result of the Metastasis Event.
In Volume 6, he first encountered the Dead End, a party comprising of Ruijerd Supardia, Rudeus Greyrat, and Eris Boreas, while strolling with Nanahoshi at the Red Dragon Lower Jaw. Hitogami battles against Dead End after learning that Rudeus is visited by him in his nightmares. He effortlessly overcomes Eris and Ruijerd despite holding back, and after rupturing Rudeus' inner organs, nearly kills him. But being taken off guard, he was scratched by Rudeus' Rock Bullet. Then, at Nanahoshi's request, he spared and cured Rudeus.
In Volume 15, Orsted was ambushed by Rudeus, who was acting on the orders of the Human God. He was able to harm him with magic strong enough to completely destroy the city-sized battlefield and force the Dragon God to engage in actual combat. He summoned the "Godsword," overpowered Rudeus by severing the Magic Armor and cutting off his right arm, but when he met Eris, who had endured gruelling training, she managed to fight back. When he learned of Hitogami's threat from Rudeus, he made the decision to ally with him in his struggle against the Human God.
Abilities[]
For the past several millennia, Orsted has achieved God-Rank proficiency in practically every fighting skill known to man, including magic and swordsmanship. He was able to easily defeat Rudeus, Eris Boreas, and Ruijerd in their first meeting, demonstrating that he was far more formidable than Rudeus in both of their meetings.
Trivia[]
- Rudeus would not be able to defeat Orsted even with the foresight eye due to his superior fighting expertise and experience, which would allow him to perform at least five distinct moves in a single instant.
- Members of the ancient Dragon Race, Nanahoshi, Rudeus, and Rudeus' offspring are exempt from the curse of being despised and feared by all other living things.
- Orsted frequently casts menacing looks. He also questioned Rudeus and Nanahoshi why they weren't looking away when they first encountered them (indicating they are unaffected by the curse, otherwise they would).
- Orsted is known to punch a hole through the chest of his adversaries to deliver the fatal blow, giving him the moniker "doughnut maker" among certain supporters.
