Oscar the Trashcan (also known as Oscar Keeper of Shadows) is a major character of the 2020 sandbox/exploration videogame House Sitter. While initially appearing as a common trashcan, Oscar is soon revealed to be a supernatural entity able to take various forms and having control over Purgatory.

Personality

Oscar is an enigmatic individual but from what's shown he really likes bringing others to Purgatory (and at some points this becomes outright sadism).

Oscar overall doesn't really show hostility and is actually pretty friendly to Pierre (allowing him to enter and leave Purgatory as he wishes and trapping whoever Pierre throws inside him).

While Oscar is never shown getting outright mad, there are some things that make him decide to turn against Pierre: him not finishing his chores or killing certain furniture (with especially the latter seemingly implying that Oscar has standards).

Biography

Oscar can be found as a trashcan in the kitchen, where he will send most objects Pierre gives him to Purgatory. Pierre himself can go inside Oscar to reach Purgatory, where Oscar will take the form of four torches surrounding a glass dome (which will contain whoever Pierre sent to the purgatory).

Bad Ending

Towards the end of the Bad Ending route, after Pierre has killed various furniture, Oscar will take the form of the basement's mirror, saying Pierre's mother won't be happy to see the mess he made and will wonder where he went. After saying this, Oscar will bring Pierre in Purgatory alongside the furniture he killed, letting the latter judge him for his actions.

After this Oscar presumably kept Pierre trapped in Purgatory for all eternity.

Secret Ending

If Pierre enters the basement without completing his chores first, Oscar will open the floor below him, making him fall into Purgatory and telling the young chair he'll be trapped in there forever. At this point Oscar will start laughing nonstop, and the player at this point can only exit the game.
