Mr. Belmont: You seem to have some remarkable museum pieces of your own.
Morticia: Do you really think so?
Mr. Belmont: Oh, yes, indeed. This harpsichord, for example.
~ Mr. Belmont admiring the Addamses' harpsichord.
You know that nice Mr. Belmont? Well, he isn't nice at all. He isn't even with the museum. He's a notorious crook.
~ Morticia on Mr. Belmont's true nature.

Oscar Belmont is the main antagonist of the 1964 Addams Family series episode "Lurch and His Harpsicord". He is a con man posing as a curator of the Fine Arts Museum.

He was portrayed by the late Byron Foulger.

Biography[]

As he strolls in the neighborhood, Mr. Belmont hears Lurch playing the harpsichord from outside. Intrigued by the beautiful music, he visits the Addams family's house. He says he has not heard harpsichord music since his mother's funeral and feels some sadness whenever he hears it. Mr. Belmont marvels at the unusual home accessories around the house, especially the harpsichord. Morticia explains that it is a genuine 1503 Krupnik and was owned by Cousin Crimp's family for over 400 years. Mr. Belmont suggests that the harpsichord should be displayed in the art museum and claims they cannot afford it. Gomez and Morticia immediately offer to donate it, but decide for the harpsichord to be shipped away on Friday so that Lurch will have some days to cope. Mr. Belmont kisses the harpsichord before leaving.

To cheer Lurch up, Gomez and Uncle Fester build him a harpsichord, an exact imitation of the Krupnik. After they finish it on Thursday, Gomez, Morticia and Fester tell Lurch that they changed their minds and decided to keep the harpsichord. Later in the afternoon, two movers come to the house, having decided to pick it up a day earlier as they happened to be in the neighborhood. Lurch feels betrayed but lets them take the harpsichord, though he is unaware that it is the duplicate. After Gomez, Morticia and Fester return, Morticia calls the museum to inform them of a possible mistake in collecting the harpsichord. They then learn that Mr. Belmont was actually a criminal pretending to be a curator and tried to sell the harpsichord to the museum for $15,000. He was arrested after it was discovered that the harpsichord was not a real Krupnik.
