Verosha "Osha" Aniseya is the titular main protagonist of the 2024 science fantasy Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte.
She was the former apprentice of Jedi Master Sol and the twin sister of Mae Aniseya. She later fell to the dark side by killing Sol and becoming the apprentice of the Stranger.
She was portrayed by Amanda Stenberg, who also played her twin sister in the same series.
Biography[]
She was created by Mother Aniseya, the leader of a coven of witches, along with her sister Mae on the planet Brendok through magic. Aniseya taught the two to join together to harness the power of the Force, which they called the Thread. Unlike Mae, Osha had no interests in becoming a witch and dreamed of another life.
When Osha was 8-years-old, she and Mae were about to become witches in the coven’s Rite of Ascension ceremony. Osha was reluctant but continued after being convinced by Mae and Aniseya. At that moment a group of Jedi Knights arrived and interrupted the ceremony.
The Jedi — Indara, Sol, Kelnacca, and Torbin — were looking to test the children’s Force Potential in search of a vergence. Osha agreed but was instructed by her family to fail the test on purpose. Osha initially went through with it but after some encouragement from Sol, she decided to honestly take the test.
Enraged at Osha for wanting to abandon the Coven, Mae locked her in her room and burned her Jedi journal, causing the flames to engulf the surrounding area. As the fire spread, Osha managed to escape her room through a tunnel and encountered Mae on a damaged bridge. They both blamed each other for the destruction of their home.
The bridge then began to collapse, causing Mae to fall to her supposed death but Osha was saved by Sol who used the Force. Afterwards, Osha was taken back to Coruscant to train as Sol’s Padawan. Sol falsely told Osha that Mae started the fire that killed her entire family. In truth, Sol killed her mother over a misunderstanding.
Osha trained for the next ten years in the Jedi Temple as Sol's apprentice, however she later decided to leave the Order. She began working as a mechanic for the Trade Federation and acquired a small repair droid called Pip.
In 132 BBY, Osha was framed for the Murder of Jedi Master Indara on Ueda. She was interrogated by Jedi Knight Yord Fandar and his Padawan Tasi Lowa. Osha recognizes Fandar and was pleased to learn that he has passed the Jedi Trials and became a Jedi Knight.
Fandar remarked that Osha has chosen to settle in the Corporate Sector, which was far from Coruscant. When Osha asked about the purpose of his visit, he tapped his lightsaber. After Padawan Lowa entered the bunk, Fandar advises Osha to take a seat. Lowa then asked Osha how long she has been a Meknek.
Osha answered since she left the Jedi Order six years ago. Lowa types her answers into a datapad. Osha says she left the Jedi Order but found that her skills were not transferable and took up a job because she needed a pay check.
When Lowa asks Osha when she joined the Jedi Order, Osha says she joined when she was eight years old and says that Fandar already should know that. Lowa responded that a major concern about admitting her to the Jedi was her age while Fandar added that she had been mourning at the time of her recruitment. Osha replies that the circumstances of her recruitment were unique but that the Jedi High Council had made the decision to accept her.
Fandar recalled that Osha had lost her entire family including her mother, her sister and her entire village in the fire on Brendok before Master Sol recruited her. Fandar says that attachments to loved ones were the most difficult to let go. When Osha asked why they were there, Lowa responded that a Jedi was murdered on Ueda last night. Fandar added that the Jedi Master was Indara.
They placed her under arrest and sent her to Coruscant aboard a prison transport ship. However, her fellow prisoners staged an escape attempt. Several prisoners flee in an escape pod but they abandoned Osha due to her unwillingness to take part in the escape attempt.
The prison ship was left floating in space above a planet. Osha uses the Force to retrieve her PIP droid, who had fallen out of her pocket amidst the tumble. She uses Pip to unlock her cell and then frees the paralyzed prisoner from his Dybbuk.
The prisoner, however, betrayed her then flees into an escape pod, leaving Osha behind. Osha screamed in fury as the prison ship descended into the planet's atmosphere. She fastened herself to a seat and braces for impact. The prison ship crash landed on the frozen world of Carlac.
She landed on the snowy planet Carlac, and awakened in the snow-covered wreckage of the prison ship, which has crashed at the foot of a mountain. Osha sees another figure and followed the shadow.
She later experienced a Force vision of Mae as a young child, revealing to Osha that her sister was alive. The younger Mae tells her that the two of them were inseparable as twin sisters. Inside a vision of their childhood home, Osha in her younger form, communes with her lost sister.
When Osha asked Mae if she killed Indara, Mae confirmed that she killed Indara and says she will kill them all, with her eyes turning jet black. Osha awakens with Pip in the snowy wreckage of the prison ship. Osha speaks with Pip, saying that the droid would not believe what she just saw.
Meanwhile, Sol traveled to the planet, with his Padawan, Jecki Lon, and Yord. Osha sees the approaching Jedi ship and hides from it. Osha flees through a network of ice tunnels that leads to the edge of a cliff. The three Jedi follow her and cornered her at the edge of the cliff.
Osha pleads her innocence but slipped, nearly falling off the cliff while trying to keep away from them. Sol caught her with the Force and reunited with his former apprentice. When Osha tells him that Mae was alive, Sol says he believes her but tells Osha that she needed to come with them. They then leave the cliff and planet together.
Sol was later informed of an attack in the Jedi Temple on Olega. As the group arrived on the planet, Osha experienced more visions of Mae, which led her to Jedi Master Torbin’s corpse. Yord quickly cleared Osha's name as the murderer.
She recognized an empty vial of bunta, a poison that she and Mae used as children from their homeworld. When Sol handed Osha a blaster, Fandar protested but Sol counters that she used to be a Jedi. Sol asked if Osha was ready. Osha says she was ready and uses her PIP droid as a recording device.
The Jedi later identified an ex-smuggler named Qimir as Mae’s likely supplier and accomplice. After borrowing a cloak, Osha impersonated Mae and visited his shop to get him to reveal details about her, but it failed as Qimir saw right through the ruse. Qimir remarked that Osha looked exactly like Mae.
Osha then raises her blaster at Qimir. Fandar, Sol and Lon then entered the shop, surrounding Qimir. Sol, Yord, and Jecki, then appeared to confront the smuggler. Qimir quickly confessed that he had supplied the poison but claimed he had no further relationship with Mae.
Sol waited in an alleyway with Osha. Osha wanted to confront Mae but Sol insisted on confronting the rogue Force user alone. Osha reminded Sol that he brought her here. Sol says he did not realize that Osha was still angry with Mae.
Osha says that Mae killed her family and destroyed her life. Sol advises Osha to let go of her grief. When Osha says she wants justice, Sol warned her about the dangers of vengeance instead.
Sol says that he could not save Mae and asked Osha to give him another chance. Osha reminded Sol that Mae wants to kill four Jedi stationed on Brendok 16 years ago. Osha warned Sol that Mae wants to kill him. But Sol tells Osha to have faith in both Mae and him.
Sol would later confront Mae that night. Meanwhile, Osha uses her PIP droid to eavesdrop on Lon and Fandar's conversation. She learned that Sol was trying to find out who trained Mae as well. Master Sol ordered the Jedi to stop Mae before she reaches the city gates.
Osha listened in to their conversation. After a brief tussle, Mae managed to escape from him and fled, where she saw Osha alive, previously believing her to be dead. Osha tried to stun her but purposely missed before Mae speeds away in a stolen Landspeeder.
With her name cleared, Osha traveled with the Jedi back to Coruscant and prepared to return to her normal life. However, Sol requested for Osha to accompany him on a new mission to apprehend Mae, which Osha agreed to. Sol’s team was assigned to go to Khofar and find Jedi Master Kelnacca before Mae could kill him.
To search for Kelnacca, the teamed Jedi moved in on foot through a dense forest, following the lead of the tracker Bazil. Osha privately told Yord to kill Mae if necessary, afraid she might hesitate again. As they traveled deeper into the forest, Osha poked at a tree trunk that turned out to be a giant Umbramoth, but Sol rescued her by slicing the creature in half with his lightsaber.
The team later heard Mae screaming and found her taking shelter inside Kelnacca's shelter. However, the Jedi were suddenly confronted by Mae’s Sith Master, who floated down from the trees and then he Force pushed Osha aside as he engaged her Jedi Friends.
Osha watched as the Dark Warrior struck down many of the Jedi, and prepared to kill Yord. Osha used a stun blaster to knock out the warrior, but the stun blast had no effect and bounced off his helmeted head. The Stranger turned his head towards Osha and began pursuing her. Sol came to her rescue and told her to flee with Yord.
Fearing for Sol’s safety, Osha convinced Yord to go back. Meanwhile, The Stranger managed to kill Jecki, but not before she unmasked him, revealing him to be none other than Qimir, much to Osha’s shock.
Yord then ambushed the Stranger, who recognizes him from their earlier encounter on Olega. The Sith Lord quickly incapacitated him and snapped his neck. Sol then brutally attacked him in anger and prepared to kill the Dark Lord, but was talked out of it by Osha.
Osha then sacrificed her droid Pip in order to escape, leaving The Stranger to be ambushed by a swarm of Umbramoths that surrounded and carried him away. Sol was then knocked out with a stun blast by Mae. Osha refused to join Mae and when they fought again, Mae flung her sister backwards, knocking her out.
As she laid unconscious on the ground, Mae cut her hair with a lightsaber and switched her clothes with Osha's and went with Sol to impersonate her instead. The Stranger, who managed to break free of the Umbramoths, found Osha lying on the ground with an abdominal wound and covered her with a blanket while healing her with the Force. Qimir then took her back to his base on the oceanic planet.
Osha later awoke in his cave and followed the Stranger to a rocky pond, where she watched him remove his clothes and bathed in the pond. She sneakily picked up his lightsaber and threatened him, ordering him to not move, but The Stranger coyly asked her to reconsider the ethics of killing him while he was unarmed and vulnerable.
Osha learned more about The Stranger's past and later put on his Cortosis helmet after he offered it. However she begins convulsing, prompting The Stranger, who briefly became possessed, to remove it. She revealed to the Sith Lord that she experienced a vision of Mae killing Sol without a weapon.
The two departed on The Stranger’s ship to find Sol and Mae on Brendok. The Stranger asked if Osha would consider being his student but she declined the offer again. Osha later confronted Mae, who reveals that Sol killed their mother. Osha pounces at her and the twins get into another fight. However, when they realized a Jedi ship arriving, Mae flees to the courtyard.
Osha would later overhear Sol confessing to accidentally killing her Mother Aniseya, much to Osha’s horror. Sol tried to justify what he did by saying he did what he thought was best for her, but Osha didn't care and began to Force-choke Sol to death in anger while holding his lightsaber, unknowingly bleeding the Kyber Crystal inside it.
Distraught over killing her father figure, Osha activates Sol’s lightsaber and lashed out at the Stranger, when he tried to comfort her. Osha then watched in shock and awe as Sol’s lightsaber blade turned from blue to red.
As the Jedi arrived on the planet, Osha and Mae escaped to their tree. Mae apologizes for the fire and the two sisters embraced each other. They were then confronted by The Stranger. Osha agrees to train with him if he spares Mae. The Stranger then offered the option of wiping Mae’s memory to remove any trace of him and Osha. Osha tearfully bid farewell to her sister and promised to find her one day.
Osha then returned to the ocean planet with The Stranger and gazed upon the sunset while holding hands, now fully devoting herself to the dark side as The Stranger's new apprentice. Meanwhile, Mae was taken to the Jedi temple on Coruscant and met with Master Vernestra Rwoh, who asked for her assistance in finding Mae's former master and Osha but had no memory of them.
