~ Lisker's final moments before his death in the 2005 anime. |
Inspector Oswald A. Lisker, also known as Guyver II, is a minor antagonist in the manga and anime series Guyver: The Bioboosted Armor.
Lisker served as a Cronos agent and Inspector responsible for overseeing the transportation of items between locations. His duties included inspecting various Cronos branches, monitoring their progress, and reporting incidents to Cronos Headquarters. During his time in Japan, Lisker was overseeing the transfer of inactive Guyver Units to Cronos Headquarters. However, he was frustrated to discover that the Japanese Director, Genzo Makishima, had lost the units. When a damaged unit was recovered, Lisker insisted on examining it and unintentionally became its host, earning the designation "Guyver II."
Despite his initial vanity in looks and martial arts skills, Lisker took on the task of retrieving the Unit that Sho had bonded with. Originally stated to become a Hyper-Zoanoid, Lisker's training and combat prowess seamlessly merged with the Guyver, making him a formidable adversary.
In the OVA adaptation, he was voiced by Norio Wakamoto in Japanese and by Gary Michaels in English. In the 2005 adaptation, he was voiced by Unshou Ishizuka in Japanese and by Jason Douglas in English.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Oswald was into a prominent family tied to the Cronos Corporation in the United States. His father, U.S. Senator Robert P. Lisker, arranged a marriage with Astrid Forsberg from the Swedish branch of Cronos, uniting their families. This union resulted in Oswald gaining a stepsister, Valkyria Forsberg Lisker. While his father treated Valkyria coldly, Oswald became a supportive and caring older brother to her. Over time, Oswald rose through the ranks of the Cronos Corporation, achieving the position of Inspector. During his time, he underwent combat training to become an elite Hyperzoanoid, where he eventually met his comrade, Zerbebuth.
Becoming Guyver II[]
Oswald was sent to the Japanese Branch headquarters after learning that a rogue Zoanoid had stolen the Guyver Units. Upon arrival, he confronted Director Genzo Makishima, immediately voicing the Corporation's dissatisfaction with his failure. Despite this, Lisker revealed that one of the stolen Units had been recovered, though it was partially damaged. While examining the Unit, it unexpectedly activated and bonded with him, transforming him into Guyver II. Lisker quickly adapted to the Guyver's abilities, leveraging his advanced combat training to excel in training simulations, where he effortlessly defeated numerous Zoanoids in under 30 seconds. Confident in his newfound power, he declared himself the only one capable of recovering the remaining Guyver.
Lisker led an operation to capture Sho Fukamachi and Tetsuro Segawa, two high school students who had been present during the D-59 Incident. To his surprise, he discovered that Sho had bonded with the Guyver Unit. Despite having no formal training, Sho had already demonstrated remarkable prowess, effortlessly defeating multiple Zoanoids. Recognizing Sho's potential, Lisker bio-boosted into Guyver II and confronted him, explaining the true nature of the Guyver and demanding that Sho return to Chronos. However, Sho refused, leading to an intense battle between the two bio-boosted warriors.
Although both combatants wielded identical armor units, Lisker held the advantage due to his superior combat training. His tactical expertise and precise execution in both offense and defense highlighted his refined skills, while Sho’s fighting style appeared clumsy and unpolished in comparison. However, the battle revealed the Guyver’s potential to adapt to its user, as Sho instinctively mastered its abilities in the heat of combat. This was evident when Sho made his first use of the high-frequency swords, landing a fortunate strike on Lisker’s faceplate. Lisker refused to accept defeat and launched a ferocious counterattack. However, just as he was about to deliver a killing blow, his control medal began to surge and malfunction, causing him intense pain. The disruption left Lisker vulnerable, and Sho seized the opportunity to end the battle with a decisive strike to the control medal. Without the medal’s stabilizing influence, Lisker’s Guyver symbiote went into overdrive, consuming its host in a gruesome meltdown. As Lisker staggered in agony, Sho mercifully ended his suffering by unleashing the Mega-Smasher, completely vaporizing him.
Anime (2005)[]
Frustrated by the repeated failures of the Japanese Branch headquarters in capturing Guyver I, Lisker decided to intervene personally. To secure his own position, Director Genzo Makishima dispatched a team of Zoanoids and his personal assistant, Synevite, to recover the Unit one final time. The mission quickly unraveled as Sho Fukamachi annihilated the Zoanoids with a Mega-Smasher blast. Synevite then revealed his Zoanoid form, proving to be a tougher opponent for Sho. However, Sho turned the tide of the battle after discovering how to use his high-frequency blades, ultimately defeating Synevite.
With the Zoanoids eliminated, Lisker emerged and bio-boosted into his Guyver form. He explained that the Guyver Units were bio-organic weapons designed to bond with hosts and significantly enhance their power, revealing that his Unit was one of three recovered by Chronos. Lisker then attempted to persuade Sho to join him, but when Sho refused, Lisker decided to teach him a lesson. Demonstrating the advanced abilities of the Guyver, he easily overpowered Sho. In a final attempt to finish him, Lisker gripped Sho's arm and prepared to fire a single Mega-Smasher shot. However, a malfunction in his control medal stunned him, giving Sho the chance to escape. Upon returning to the Japanese Branch headquarters, Lisker found Genzo Makishima under arrest and Commander Richard Guyot assuming control of the Chronos base. Due to Lisker’s failure to retrieve the Guyver Unit, he was sidelined while scientists investigated the cause of his control medal’s malfunction, suspecting he might have pushed the Unit’s abilities beyond its limits. When Lisker greeted Guyot, he was surprised to see that his bodyguard was none other than his old comrade, Zerbebuth.
Zerbebuth was sent to confront Guyver I but was defeated when Sho used a pressure cannon to severely damage him. Later, Lisker witnessed Sho’s apparent death at the hands of Enzyme, a Zoanoid assassin created by forcibly transforming Genzo Makishima as punishment for his previous failures. However, when Guyver I regenerated from its control medal, Lisker began to fantasize about the potential for immortality and absolute power, envisioning these as a path to ascend within Chronos. Determined to reassert his dominance, Lisker sought out Sho but instead encountered a wounded Zerbebuth, who had been defeated by Guyver I. Zerbebuth pleaded with Lisker, invoking their past camaraderie and asking to be taken to the Optimization Chamber to heal. Coldly dismissing their bond, Lisker turned on his former ally and killed him, prioritizing his ambitions over loyalty.
While navigating the Japanese Branch headquarters, Lisker encountered the enigmatic Guyver III, who had just completed his sabotage of the facility and was preparing to leave. Determined to challenge him, Lisker stopped Guyver III and declared his intent to fight, claiming that the world only needed one Guyver, not three. With that, Lisker bio-boosted into his Guyver form. When Guyver III chuckled in response, Lisker demanded to know what he found amusing. Guyver III remarked that he hoped Lisker hadn’t found his recent battles too exhausting. Recalling a prior conversation with Agito Makishima, Lisker deduced that Guyver III was, in fact, the Makishima heir. During their brief clash, Lisker revealed that his newfound power had heightened his ambitions. With the abilities of the Guyver, he believed he could secure an elite position within the Chronos Corporation, a goal he deeply coveted. However, Guyver III dismissed such aspirations, stating that his only objective at the moment was the destruction of the Japanese Branch. He then unleashed a powerful pressure cannon attack, blasting Lisker and sending him tumbling into the lower levels of the building.
Despite appearing defeated by Guyver III’s pressure cannon, Lisker made a dramatic return, firing his Mega-Smashers at Guyver III. Furious, he berated him for turning his back on an unfinished fight. Spotting Sho Fukamachi, the first Guyver, alive nearby, Lisker shifted his focus to him. He quickly overpowered Sho, showcasing his superior combat skills and mocking the young host for his sloppy techniques, declaring he could never hope to win. Sho tried to warn Lisker of the impending explosion caused by the Japanese Branch's self-destruct mechanism, but Lisker dismissed the warning, arrogantly claiming that immortality left him with nothing to fear. After defeating Sho, Lisker prepared to finish him off with a Mega-Smasher blast, boasting that Sho would not survive the attack. However, as he charged the weapon, his damaged control medal malfunctioned, causing him to temporarily lose control as his body began to deform. Seizing the opportunity, Sho attacked and struck Lisker’s control medal, dislodging it from its socket. Without the medal’s stabilizing influence, Lisker’s bio-boosted armor began to disintegrate, consuming him in the process. In disbelief, Lisker cried out that it was impossible, insisting he was invincible and that Sho could never defeat him. But his body dissolved into an organic mass, which was ultimately obliterated when the Japanese Branch headquarters exploded.
