~ Otherworld Euden explaining his motives. |
Otherworld Euden, also known as Emperor Euden, is a supporting antagonist in Dragalia Lost. He is the twin brother of Zena, an alternate version of Zethia, and was possessed by an alternate version of Morsayati. Initially introduced as a tragic antagonist and a villain by proxy, it is soon revealed that he was secretly working with Xenos to bring about the end of the multiverse so as to erase all the suffering he created. He is also the pactbearer of Chronos.
Like his mainstream counterpart, he was voiced by Kōki Uchiyama in Japanese and Victor Hunter in English, who also voiced Nedrick in the same game.
Appearance[]
Otherworld Euden's appearance is virtually identical to his mainstream counterpart, wearing white armor with gold and red details and a red and white cape. However, when possessed by Morsayati he has red eyes and is mostly seen with a frown on his face, as well as his expressions being more villainous.
When shapeshifted, he takes the form of his pactwyrm Chronos, being a titanic grey lizard-like dragon with a golden halo behind him and gold horns.
Personality[]
Just like his mainstream counterpart, Otherworld Euden was a kindly and peaceable man who wanted nothing more than to make everybody happy and content. However, Xenos managed to take advantage of this and convince him to work for him, making him more callous and unfeeling. However, it's shown that Euden bears a great amount of guilt towards letting the Other possess him, which would be a major contributing factor to why he continued to work with Xenos so as to correct his mistakes. He also shows great care for his sister Zena, apologising to her for not being a better brother and giving her the heavy burden of killing him.
Biography[]
Background[]
Euden was the Seventh Scion of Alberia, who was born with a twin sister Zethia, later known as Zena. It's unknown whether the Euden of this dimension was saved from dragonscale at birth by Xenos or if he shares a backstory with the regular counterpart, though it is known that Xenos has had some influence over him for some ime.
Euden's life would progress much like his mainstream counterpart, but would instead be possessed by Morsayati after offering himself up to save Zena due to Beren not being present. From there, Morsayati, in control of Euden, would bring an end to dragonkind, massacring his former allies and slaying the Greatwyrms, destroying their souls before using their mana to create his own personal dragon Chronos, who would go around killing all who opposed his master, such as his former friend Ranzal as well as other versions of Zethia whose universes met a similar fate. However, Zena managed to meet with her father Aurelius, who was thankfully still alive and using the Dawnshard, projected herself into the mainstream world to attempt to prevent such a tragedy.
Unbeknownst to Zena, Euden, wracked with guilt for what he's done, accepts Xenos' will to destroy the multiverse and begins to formulate a plan to detonate his black mana-suffused world and wipe out all other parallel worlds, while Morsayati, angered at the disappearance of Elysium thanks to mainstream Euden and the party freeing him from his black mana reanimation, decides to take his hate out on what the Holywyrm loved most: the universe he inhabits.
Chapter 25: Proof of the Pact[]
Needing to retrieve her true body to master her Auspex powers, Zena and the mainstream Euden head back to her world, which is in ruins thanks to Morsayati's actions. As they prepare to perform a ritual to sever Zena's chain of causality to her home universe, Xenos' terminals arrive, but are dispatched when she manages to re-enter her own body and stop them. However, the noise of the terminals attracts Emperor Euden, who remarks that he hasn't seen Zena in a long time. Mainstream Euden attempts to reason with his possessed counterpart, telling him that Xenos is on his way to destroy the world they inhabit, but Emperor Euden simply states that as he cannot kill Elysium, he will instead destroy the world he loved so much and doesn't care at all about Xenos. Desperate to free her brother, Zena and Euden attack, with Zena using her Auspex powers to draw Morsayati out and Euden killing the demon, putting an end to his hate.
Otherworld Euden awakens, expressing his remorse for his actions and reveals that he knows what Xenos is planning. Everybody is shocked however, when he reveals that he plans to use his world to destroy all other parallel worlds, with Euden realizing that his parallel counterpart is a servant of Xenos. Otherworld Euden admits it, claiming that he hopes that by following Xenos, all tragedy he caused could be erased and everybody could be happy again. Euden prepares to fight his parallel self, but while reluctant, Otherworld Euden transforms into Chronos and the two Eudens clash.
Euden manages to defeat his Otherworld counterpart, showing that his parallel self's bending of the pact was the reason he lost and that Xenos truly is corrupting him. Despite admitting he's wrong, Otherworld Euden refuses to change from his goals and Euden reluctantly chooses to end him, although Zena decides that she is the one to deal the final blow. Before she lands the last blow, her brother expresses his happiness at seeing Zena one last time, and that all he wanted to do was to make everybody happy. However, as she deals the killing hit, he reveals that the spark to ignite black mana has already been struck, destroying the world and killing him along with all parallel universes.
Epilogue[]
Otherworld Euden is presumably revived after the world's restoration, now free of Xenos' servitude to spend his days happily with Zena. However, as Euden reinstates Nedrick as the Seventh Scion in his world, it is possible that Otherworld Euden is truly gone, or that he still exists in his parallel world. As Zena still remembers her time with the party, it's likely that the latter is the case.
