The Outlaws are a group of antagonists from Samurai Jack. They only appear in a flashback where they attempted to kill Jack's father, the Emperor of Japan.
History[]
Long ago in the past, Jack and his parents were traveling down a road in a carriage with several guards. Jack was having fun playing with his action figures as his parents watched happily when some arrows suddenly pierce the carriage, causing his mother to scoop him into her arms. A band of outlaws appear outside and ambush the guards, murdering them. One of the outlaws shouts out to the emperor what they've done and that he is next to die (they very likely planned to do the same with his family too). However, the emperor refuses to show fear and exits the carriage with his sword to confront them, then attempts to persuade them to leave or face the consequences of their choices. The outlaws refuse to acknowledge his wisdom and attempt to kill him, but the emperor, with his superior sword skills, swiftly defeats and kills the outlaws. Jack witnessed all this through the blinds of the carriage door, and one of the outlaw's blood splattered across his eyes as a result, shocking him.
Postmortem[]
Later on, the emperor wipes the blood off of his son's face, though the boy was still traumatized by the event. To comfort him about it, the emperor explains to him that he did not wish to kill the outlaws, but had to do so in order to protect himself and his family, and that at some point, Jack would have to make a similar decision regardless of how he feels.
When Jack was being hunted by the Daughters of Aku, Jack ends up killing one of them and was horrified to see that it was an actual human and not a robot like he usually faced. While hiding and recovering from his wounds, as well as his guilt, he recalls the outlaws and what his father had to do to stop them, giving him the strength he needed to do what was necessary to survive: by killing the assassins.
